How does the joke go .... I'm being cremated and just before I die I'm planning on eating popping corn.....

I trust you just tutted and turned to another thread (my reaction in such circumstances), as we all have a different sense of humour. :-D

I love gallows humour, and have to admit, our dad's funeral had me and my sister in stitches - I've said this before, will now repeat it.
There were a few problems from the start.
1 He was being cremated - dad was a Moslem - cremation a no-no
2 Dad's wife knew little of Islam, so got a Catholic Priest in - to talk about our dad :-\
3 Granny was at the back, and a syllable behind everyone else, so when 'Amen' was said, this robust voice from the back shouted 'men'. :-D

My sister and I were near the front, with my 12 year old daughter between us.
Our shoulders started shaking - daughter thought we were crying - especially as our faces screwed up, and tears rolled down our faces.

Everytime 'Amen' was said, or we knew it was coming up, it/we got worse, we were desperately trying not to laugh out loud - mainly because we didn't want to upset dad's wife (now dead so can't be offended).
We heard a sniffle/snort behind us - I looked around, our sister in law was in the same situation as us, which made me want to laugh even more.

There have been four family funerals - including my brother in law aged 58, and at every one, I'm afraid we've ended up in tears of laughter - tears of sorrow too, but mainly tears of laughter.

I hope everyone has a jolly good laugh at my funeral :-D :-D :-D

I read the original thread , and did not find it amusing .....
The deceased obviously received the greatest of respect from her family members in carrying her coffin
Of course.not being there I have no idea if this was a comical situation or not, but, to my mind a funeral of a loved one is no laughing matter whatsoever..... and I am sure that the family involved would not be amused too. IMHO

If you wanted to hear gallows humour, you should have sat around a fire station mess table after a particularly nasty "job". It was a coping mechanism.
As a matter if interest, is it possible to take the moral low ground?

In all honesty as we all know GR don't listen 99% of the time no matter how sensible your comments are, haven't done for years. If they did then Nyx your suggestion would be good.

She thought that her thread re (paraphrasing) "what's your most gruesome family death" was fine, some posters felt it was ok, most did not, it was particularly upsetting to some.

It was perhaps not intended to upset, but it did. Sharron's thread though not obviously in the same league also appears to have upset or offended 'someone'.

The reporter knows if that's the case or not, they really don't have to come here and justify it ( and lets face it if one does that as in the past the knife is permanently in your back for doing so).

We say one person and only one person may have reported, but that doesn't mean it is only that one person each time.

if Sharron feels aggrieved or that it's some sort of personal vendetta then inform GR. I think that's what was done last time there was a spate of apparently unfair reporting?

Edit, my point in mentioning NS was that she was asked to amend her wording but she couldn't see why she should as it didn't offend HER and so argued her case endlessly until she was effectively shut up lol.

I can't see the point in analysing the whys and wherefores of a thread being reported - we need the person who reported it to explain.

As has been seen from previous reporting - there seems no rhyme nor reason, just some humourless/sh*te stirring 'jobsworth', who believes their humour is 'the only one', and no-one else should laugh at something they, personally (as they're the most important person) find distasteful

I expect they're laughing their socks off and preening themselves in the mirror at the power one digit (their digit) has and how it can cause such a fuss.

Joy Louise, I also agreed with your reasoning on why the original thread 'might' have been reported.

It's not likely now that who ever reported it will say so...why would he/she when they are likely to be called humourless and have thread after thread aimed at them? Even assuming they can post here.

I've just come in from a day out and read this thread.

I am the person Nyx referred to; the one who suggested a reason why the original thread might have been reported.

I have no idea who reported the old thread but it would be interesting if we could be told the reasons why it was reported.
