Tomorrow it will be a year since we lost Daff. I shall be travelling to the Valleys and of course thinking of her and Mr. Daff.
I didn’t want to mark this anniversary with doom and gloom, Daff would be throwing bricks instead of glitter...lol
Talking with Mr. Daff over the past 12 months lots of events have made us laugh… Daff’s idea of filing important paperwork was to bury it in the huge quantities of linen. That’s the first place you would look……………..not!
Her decision to change her passwords from those totally logical ones used previously to combinations that would challenge someone with a Masters in cryptography! We had a real giggle offering suggestions.
All Daff’s family history research is not being wasted, one of her nieces is taking on the challenge.
I often read through emails, pms, look at photographs and usually laugh because she would be telling me to ‘shut up’ in case I got a GR holiday ;-) That was when she had her Mrs. Sensible hat on.
Tomorrow evening we will have a glass of wine and recall the hilarious moments we shared, like Daff sticking her tongue in my ear (I do have photographic proof). Her only excuse was she had ‘sunstroke’ at the time. Daff apologising for groping my husband because he and Mr. Daff were both wearing green jumpers ;-)
I hope you will do the same. Also share some of your funny memories so we can all laugh together, she would love that :-D
Sue xx

can't believe it's a year!!! I too have very fond memories of Daff - bumping into to her unexpectedly down our village, having coffee with her, going to Family History fairs and meets with her - she was so bubbly and knew so much about all sorts of things
last time I met her down our village - quite by chance - she was coming out of Lloyds bank having set up an account so we could all contribute to a fund for the son of one of our members - he had been badly injured in Afghanistan - just the kind of person our Daff was - a one off!!!

Thank you Sue, it is marked on my calendar, but I would not have forgotten anyway.
Daff was, funny, doolally, warm, caring and loving. she was closer to me than my own sister, even though I only knew her for a few years. She always made me laugh, even when I was cross.
She always missed birthdays, then sent flowers to apologise for missing them, or insisted that R drove her here to personally deliver a present on their way up the motorway to visit their son, and that was only the month before she went into hospital in 2010, there she suddenly was on the doorstep with a big grin on her face.
She was not good at time keeping, always losing things, on one occasion going to a party for Dizzie's birthday, Daff first lost her phone (not unusual), then her satnav. eventually arrived at the party late having first tried to join another party down the road.
she loved her craft work and especially loved glitter, she always spoke about how once she started everything was coated in glitter. I bet Mr Daff still finds it everywhere.
She loved to talk..... a lot. It is a good job her R is a quiet man, he'd have had trouble getting a word in anyway.
We will raise a glass to her tomorrow, she left a big hole in my life when she left us but she also left many many happy memories. Thanks Daff, keep them giggling wherever you are. :-D

Last time I actually saw Daff was the South Wales meet July 2010, we went out on the friday night just her Mr Daff me and Itsmytelly, I was banned from here at the time, we were supposed to be going for a chinese buffett, which she kept telling me was right next door to our hotel, its massive she kept saying and I was saying its compeletely empty no chinese buffett there, your looking in the wrong place she instisted, of course it had gone, we laughed and R rolled his eyes Daff face of shock. :-0
She had actually been to have her bloods done that day and I think we all knew that awful illness was back as she looked very tried at the end of the night.
The Saturday was the meet and Daff had rised money on here for Ashley, we had an audtion, it was a small meet but I met some lovely people Jude Jean Ann Julieann and her dad Gwyn Tina and of course most of their long suffering partners. :-D
I had walked Tina to the train station I actually stayed sober at that meet, must be a first and Sue and Himself turned up later, we all had a drink together, and then we saw Daff and R in to a taxi lots of hugs and cuddles that was the last time i saw her, i didnt think it would of been the last or I would of hugged her forever .
The following morning we had a lovely breakfast with Sue and Himself, both Itsmytelly and I really enjoyed that weekend.
I cant swear that I think of Daff everyday but she is often in my thoughts and willbe forever in my heart. <3

Sue I've PMd you :-)
Daff was, and still is in my thoughts, the Jiminy Cricket 'conscience' on my shoulder lol, she would so often send me a message in the middle of a heated debate on the boards, making me laugh and edging me away from being banned for life lol.
It doesn't seem like a year, but the thought of putting up the Christmas lights reminded me of Daff this week :-D

Thanks Sue for marking the anniversary sadly I didn't have the pleasure of meeting dear Daff but corresponded with her and loved her zest for life. I've loved reading of your memories AnnCardiff and AnninGlos.
Daff loved crafting/glittering and playing with her littlies and I always smile when I see anything connected to Peppa Pig lol
My last memory was when she detailed one of her walks in hospital 'traipsing the corridors with this ruddy line'.....always with a good sense of humour :-D
I too will raise a glass tomorrow to our dear Daff who is a big,big miss on GR she will always be remembered.

I also think of Daff when I see things about Peppa Pig, I never met her but was welcomed to her thread and it became the !st thread that I looked at when coming on GR. The warmth she had came through on that thread and I think all of us that joined 'Daff's Army' felt that.
I would imagine that wherever she is and whatever she does now it involves glitter and glue.
She was truly a special person.

Ginnie, I always remember you made her a special card and she absolutely loved it. I think she sent me a photo of it at the time too. Was it one of Daff's army uniform? :-)
Hayley, that was a good meet wasn't it and I can vouch that you stayed sober, don't think you stayed still long enough to drink much. I was sorry to miss Sue and her OH but we had a train to catch.

Thank you Sue for putting this on.
I didn't know Daff personally but 'spoke' on here several times, what a lovely lady she seemed to be, always cheerful and ready with some very good advice when needed.
She has obviously been very sadly missed by all her friends, I know I have missed reading her threads.
You all seem to have such happy memories of her, wish I had been lucky enough to have met her. Jean xx

Lord, the first time we visited Daff in hospital we were met in the corridor by a couple of nurses who immediately piped up "you must be Sue" :-0
Aghast I was shuffling through my tiny brain as to what devilish things Daff could have told them about me :-S
Fortunately it was my amazing crutch reputation that had preceded me
:-D
When Daff's hair first grew back she looked stunning, and I mean STUNNING. I did tell her she looked like a loo brush, which to be fair she did ;-) I was so jealous because I definitely have the wrong shaped head for that style.
She took great delight in telling me she was buying clothes 2 sizes smaller, with that 'glint' she had perfected. Informed her that happily I wasn't vertically challenged like some people so her old trousers would be too short...lolol
She was wickedly funny
:-D

My memory of Daff is the camelia in my bit of garden, she sent it to me after we had all been sharing our favourite flowers, I told her I had a bouquet of white camelias on my wedding day, quite unheard of in those days usually the wedding flowers were roses or lilies, but I wanted to be different, we swapped ideas for cards and I sent her a scrapbook to get her going, she was and still is a lovely memory, I have a pic of her when her hair was very short but she looked lovely , she had a beauty that came from within, I too shall raise a glass to a very special lady... love Jean xx

Ann, I did make Daff a 'Daff's Army 'card which was inspired by the posters on Daff's thread, the high heeled boots, lime green tights and pink cowboy hats complete with feather and of course lots of bling to name but a few ideas that were put forward by all of us. I was so pleased that she liked it.

tizzy, dizzy.nutty,,,,,,,wonderful Daffy.how could anyone forget her.
Cant remember the first time I met her but ,,,,,,,,she walked in with R (late) and looked a right posh Dutches and R a gent of class....she had lived in the area once,,,,,but Daffy being Daffy lost the way :-D :-D :-D :-D.she was a hit with me.
next time was when she suffered a terrible bout of sunstroke and it confused her so much it made her attack poor Sues ear....., :-D :-D. and her raffle prize was unmentionable,,, ;-) ;-).
I was thinking so much of Daff during the last couple of weeks while viewing christmassy things and how much she loved it.....and at the same time sadness for the whole family........heaven will of course be glitzed to the hilt.

I too will be remembering our Daff with a smile and thinking of her family.
Many of you will have heard the tale how we first met as young mums overseas in the early 70s and our husbands' jobs and a war in Cyprus meant we lost touch until we 'met' again on one of Hayley's late night threads. I 'm so pleased that we had that chance to renew our friendship and meet up a few times. You can imagine the scene when OH and I called to see her for the first time on our way to take our grandson on holiday in Wales. Talk?... We hardly stopped for hours, so a 'pop in for coffee' visit turned into a marathon chat... Well we did have over 30 years to catch up.! Daff was so welcoming and grandson helped her prepare a meal for us all, - 'a dash of this, a shake of that... and let's add some of this too'... We thought it best not to ask, but it tasted great. She was as bubbly as her husband is quiet, but both with a great sense of humour, natural warmth and very caring personalities.
I often read through old threads and messages and smile and can almost hear her voice as she related the latest episode in family life with her cats and princesses.
We miss you my friend, but are richer for knowing you.
Gwyn x

I so envy all those who met her - I only 'spoke' to her a few times on here when I was a newby and just felt her warmth and kindness. She made me feel so welcome and then edged me away once from 'being banned for life' or, should I say, 'being banned from life' and I so appreciated that.
As Jean said 'I wish I had met her'.
What a lady she must have been to evoke such fond, happy and loving memories <3
