Ouch Island was it a bit wet and slippery? It sounds painful, I hope you will feel less sore tomorrow.

Island Report 6 Apr 2021 18:07

Anng, no it was dry - I didn't lift my foot high enough. I must remember to use the slope in future.

Annx, I just popped in ahead of you. I'll read in a bit.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Apr 2021 19:04

That sounds a nasty trip Island. I hope you don't ache too much tomorrow and Doggie is as good as a hot water bottle to cuddle up to and he's all nice and clean after his blanket bath. Made my knees go funny when I read your post! :-0

Hope mums ok Gill but if she is in hospital its the best place for her to be if she keeps going numb down one side. Hope you feel better soon too. Silly Sandra losing the flat the social got her. I don't think she is world woise enough to live on her own. As for the boyfriend......well I suppose its up to her but she dos'nt seem to have learnt any lessons from the trouble he has caused her. Sounds like he is only using her but she is in love and first love always seems good at the time.

Ann I'm glad your feeling better and may have found what caused your dicky tum.

Better get some dinner on or I shall get told off.

Ouch Island! That does sound painful. I hope you are not too sore and that it hasn't shaken your other aches and pains up too much.

Sorry to hear Mum is in hospital again Gill but, as Mel says, it is the best place for her at the moment. Here's hoping they find out quickly what is wrong and can get her sorted out. You are in a difficult situation with Sandra. She's of age so you can't force her to do anything she doesn't want but it does sound as though she needs a lot of guidance. It sounds as though she acts without being able to properly think through the consequences of what she does and it does sound as though the boyfriend is just taking advantage of her trusting nature. If the boyfriend is living with her, does she understand about contraception? Fingers crossed that everything will work out in time. Btw, you don't have to have a time lag between exchange and completion. if all the monies and paperwork are in place and all the parties agree it can be done on the same day. We did just that when we moved to our current address.

AnnG, the steamers are really easy to use. Mine is a Morphy Richards and a little bit different to Anns but not much. I've also had a Vax and mine had a separate container for detergent, though I think you had to use their own make. If you Google your model you might find there is a booklet online that you can download.

I don't have to phone my hairdresser tomorrow as she rang me a while ago and I have an appointment on 22nd April. I've got an optician's appointment on 12th to sort out my prescription sunglasses and to adjust the glasses I got from them a few weeks ago. By the end of the day one arm is really digging in my head. I only need to make an appointment at the tip and I'll have three "away days" arranged ;-) After being locked down for so long any appointment feels like an outing.

I've just spent an hour sorting out my Sainsbury order for Thursday and getting a Tesco order booked for 2 weeks after that. I do wonder if I could ease up a bit on all the wiping down now but it has become such a habit that I do it automatically.

I'm now going to go and read for a while. I don't watch a lot of television as there seldom seems to be anything much on that I want to see, but I would be lost without books.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 6 Apr 2021 22:07

I will have a look tomorrow and see which steamer we have. I have a sneaking suspicion that I am going to find two. I am sure one went wrong and I don’t remember one being thrown out.

I have just watched the second instalment of The Syndicate, I was not going to watch it but saw last weeks and found it quite entertaing

Gillx Report 6 Apr 2021 23:41

Oh Island I'm so sorry to hear you've had a fall and hope you feel better soon. Sending a gentle (((hug))) <3 How lovely of the dog to keep an eye on you. Thanks for letting me know the name of the tree, maybe mine's not the same, I'll take a proper look tomorrow.

I never heard back from the solicitor but I left a message for Sandra's agent to see if she might be able to have a word with the Vendor in the hope that she contacts her solicitor to push them along, the same as I'm doing this end. With a bit of luck Sandra might be able to move by the end of next week. It would be handy if there wasn't a week in between exchange of contracts and completion as she really needs to be in her flat now.

I've not heard anymore about mum, so I assume she's having the brain scan tomorrow and she's been kept in hospital overnight. I know she'll ring me as soon as she can and at least she's in the right place if it happens again so at least I have peace of mind knowing she's not on her own all night as she lives on her own.

Sandra knew she was breaking the rules as her social worker rang me and told me she's been telling Sandra for a week what would happen if her boyfriend didn't leave. She was offered another place off the social but it was only for her so she told them that wasn't an option, which is why she ended up paying for both of them to stay in a hotel until her flats completes.

I get the feeling her boyfriend isn't paying for anything and is relying on Sandra for everything. Yes, AnnG he is the boy who has been in prison. OH and I aren't happy with the situation but so far he's been okay with her and she's seems very happy being with him. She's an adult so we can't really do anything apart from be there for Sandra if it doesn't work out. I think as parents that's all we can do for our children isn't it?

I won't hear about the scan appointment for 3 to 4 weeks according to the doctor, but at least the symptoms have stopped now. I got my meds for the infection she said I have today so will start that tonight. It's a 5 night course so I should be okay by the weekend.

It looks like you might have worked out what caused your sore tum Ann, at least you know what to avoid now.

We had some snow before so I hope it's not to slippy on the roads in the morning when OH comes home from work, he did say the gritters were out so hopefully it'll be okay.

I'm just going to finish off some painting in the spare bedroom before going to bed. I hope you all have a good nights sleep.

Annx Report 7 Apr 2021 10:10

Morning All,

The sun is shining but it still feels chilly and I haven't been outside yet.

It's a difficult situation with Sandra isn't it Gill and at least the social worker warned her what would happen. I expect while she has money and she can pay to get what she wants she won't care or see that she may be being taken advantage of. I wonder what the social worker feels about the boyfriend as he seems to be onto a good thing with Sandra paying, yet he must be getting some money himself. Sandra is an adult in years, but not with adult thinking if she is special needs, so needs to accept support and guidance, otherwise there will be problems ahead. I hope you soon hear from your mum and that she is ok. I see you are busy indoors and out and are painting now. It's good to be making progress though and seeing improvement.

Oh Island you poor thing having that nasty fall on steps. I bet your poor shin will be bruised and all colours. Nice that your doggie joined you on the sofa in sympathy when you got home.

I'd better get on and do something now.........where's that list and I think a quick lunch of some sort today.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Apr 2021 10:19

Morning all,

Dull and dreary wet but not so windy. Oh is out there with the strimmer so it must be warmer than yesterday. I hav'nt ventured out yet.

We had a few snow flakes yesterday evening but it did'nt come to anything and I could only see them in the outside light.

Hope all goes well for Sandra and the flat, and that the boyfriend treats her well.

I had the deer out the back yesterday, just the one little hind and she looks quite round inthe tum! so there may be another one coming in the garden which will make six. It was bad enough with just the one, then two then three and on it goes. They are still managing to get under the wire and eat the day lillies in the front of the border.

I have some ironing to do this morning and see what its like out there and may go up the border if its not too cold.

Morning Ann you popped in as I was typing. Did you sleep well?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Apr 2021 10:29

Good morning all. a very grey day here, no sun at all and 1 degree out there. There was a frost but it went quickly.

Island hope you are not too sore this morning, you need to rest again today until you feel less stiff.

I imagine that, if you let it, Sandra's problems would take over your life gill. however, even though special needs she is obviously deemed capable of living away from home so she must also be able to put up with problems she causes for herself. Which means you shouldn't worry too much about her. Hmm As a Mum that is not going to happen but I guess if in a real problem situation she will come running home to you. so do try and not let the current situation stress you too much. Hopefully the property will soon becaome available. I assume there is no way she could ens up letting this fellow have his name added as co owner or anything? That would cause problems.

Vera, I have found the booklet for the steam mop it is a (never heard of the make) a Vileda. I will have to have a look at it sometime now I have the book.

The garden bin has been emptied but I have no desire to start filling it again today, The green bin (unrecycleable ) is still waiting.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Apr 2021 10:44

Rain has stopped play in the garden as oh is now indoors but there's not much wind out and the rain is coming down steadily.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Apr 2021 12:40

no rain here but only 5 degrees and feels very cold outside. I have done a load of washing, dried in the drier of course. Had a look at my tomato seeds, only a few in 6 small pots about 4 seeds growing quite well. If that is all that grow from that packet of about 10 seeds, that will be fine, I don't need many plants. I have moved them the past two days to the coffee table in front of the lounge window as the conservatory is not heated.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Apr 2021 12:52

Four tom plants should be plenty for you Anng. Mine are inthe uti room on a south facing window on top of a big plastic box so not right in the sun. Its nice and warm in there as the chest freezer is in there and its always warm in there.

Iv'e been out tidying up the pots that oh moved when he painted the shed but I got cold hands so came in.

Not a sign of any of the Honesty seeds I sowed or the old seed of the statice and I had my seedling cowslips on the windowsill of the shed and they get burnt up in the suns the other week so have moved them lower down on the bench. I think I may have lost some but still have four plants that were bigger than the rest.

Oh has come in too and its nearly lunchtime so he has gone off to the study till I get it ready.

Island Report 7 Apr 2021 14:11

Afternoon all

Surprisingly, I slept through despite a 'coming together' with concrete steps yesterday - spot the Murray Walkerism.
Shins fine but ribs very sore. Perhaps FRANK could give me some recovery tips? :-D

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Apr 2021 14:36

Pleased that you are half better Island, hopefully the ribs will heal soon, I trust they are bruised not cracked?

Mel yes four of those toms would be fine plus I intend buying actual plants for a couple of baskets. I would have grown all plants not seeds but these were so good last year I wanted to try them again.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Apr 2021 14:39

Its good your not too sore after 'coming together' with the step. Good too you had a restful night Island. Hope you bright eyed and bushey tailed soon.

Yes where's FRANK?

Just heard that the online tribute page for T raised £850. for The Willow Trust. Really pleased about that he would be so proud, wish I could tell him.

Their president has included this little bit about what the money means to them.

"In terms of the disabled and seriously ill children and adults who spend an uplifting and memorable day on our boats it means two very special days for up to thirty people in total on each day.

That is wonderful for us and for our guests it is a day so many of them would never have dreamt possible."

Island

Island Report 7 Apr 2021 15:08

I'm very sore Mel :-(

Anng, I'm assuming I'm just bruised - should be pretty when the colours come out. There's nothing can be done for cracked ribs, advice is not to strap them. Time to worry is if pain gets worse and/blood is coughed up. I'm just stiff and sore.

Great about the money raised Ann

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Apr 2021 15:35

It was a surprisingly high amount Island.
Hopefully the bruising will soon come out then you will hopefully be less sore.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 7 Apr 2021 16:06

That's great about the money raised in T's memory AnnG. He was clearly well loved and these donations will bring happiness to several deserving people. I didn't know Vileda did steam cleaners but they are well known for cleaning products. I've got a mop and bucket and an ashpan and brush that are Vileda.

Poor you Island - injured ribs can be quite painful. Just don't laugh ;-)

I hope your mum has had her scan now Gill and nothing serious has been found.

I've been having a day of housework today. I've given all the upstairs a really good clean. It took me all morning. OH has cleaned the wooden floor in the lounge. Of course we hoover regularly but it gets cleaned about once a month with some special liquid that we've got.

I've just booked a 15 minute slot at the tip - 12.15 next Tuesday. Another outing; I am so excited that I can hardly contain myself and I won't even be allowed to get out of the car! The rules say you must wear masks, should wear gloves and only 1 adult must do all the tipping. A second adult is only allowed to help if you are dumping something heavy. The workmen now mustn't help. We mustn't get there more than 5 minutes before our allotted time and have to be out within 15 minutes. It comes to something when I'm looking on such a rule-bound visit as an outing.

I suppose I had better think what we are going to eat tonight. It'll have to be something that I can cook from frozen so I expect it'll be meat pie but will I do steak and kidney or chicken? Decisions, decisions........
