Mel Fairy Godmother Report 23 Apr 2020 11:05

Just cut my little finger on the pad on a rose thorn and it bled like anything. I was just about to strip the bed so oh has put a plaster on it and it feels awful now. Quilt cover sheet and pillow cases in now so I will have a rest and tackle the other bit in stages and then I can get this plaster off as its really tight and the finger is throbbing.

Ouch Mel, those thorns can make you sore for days too! I must get our bedding changed again.....it soon comes round doesn't it, same as HW.

I ended up quite busy AnnG as I took the veg into the conservatory to sit and prepare where I wouldn't disturb OH. I put the ice packs in the freezer to put back in the cool bags later. I've frozen some spinach (first time ever) so I hope it will be useable! Then I went out and did a video of our small patch, but no sound so I need to check if my camera will record with sound which I doubt? Then I watered the seeds and seedlings and was pleased to see the radish are making an appearance. I tried and failed to get a pic of a bumble bee but got a nice shot of a little Robin singing. Then I tiptoed through the lounge barefoot carrying my slippers so as not to disturb OH and came in here. As we need to use up a few potatoes, we are having a turkey casserole instead of risotto. I've sneaked a bit of spinach in it to use the rest up.

Your crumble sounds lovely Mel. I keep meaning to make one and have rhubarb and frozen fruit I can use. I keep thinking I will have time to do some craft soon, but seem to be too busy with everything else at the moment. I expect this nice weather won't last for ever so it's best to do the outside jobs while we can.

AnninGlos Report 23 Apr 2020 12:30

Mel, make sure you put some savlon or something on the place the thorn went in you don't want an infection. It does hurt though doesn't it they go in so deep.

Annx you have been busy cheffing then!! I have tacked the lower half of a double kitchen cupboard, the one with saucepans and frying pans in plus the food processor and a tub I keep potatoes in, it wasn't very dirty just needed a wipe over but is all nice and clean now. The top shelf is not making me feel I want to rush and do it, it is the one with all the tupperware and other plastic containers and lids etc in. I just know once out it will be a devil to get it all back in and it is low down too so sometimes means kneeling on the floor (which entails getting up again) or bending right down, not good for my back.

Isn't it strange, none of us seem inclined to be doing craft work?

Frank Report 23 Apr 2020 12:33

Good afternoon Ladies.

Where on earth has the morning gone. Was late to bed again last night, and again SLEPT LIKE A LOG. Went to the loo around 5.00am The next thing I knew it was 10.00 am.

Ros had a phone call from Carol down the road last night, criticising her seam sewing. Someone decided that there should be DOUBLE STITCHING on the seams of the SCRUB BAGS. As you can imagine she was not best pleased, and said there and then, the the NHS would get no more from her. She will continue to make them, but for the local General Hospital, who she has heard are desperate for them. A nurse who lives round the corner sent her daughter round last night to pickup 47 that she had ready for her. Another woman in the village has bought loads of more material round this morning, with a bag of tape for the ties, The machine is going 50 to the dozen. lol lol

I MUST get the mower out and do the front lawn, or find a couple of SHEEP to eat it all. lol lol

Ros managed to get through to Coopers, and order the cushion I wanted.. Thanks for the advise.

After getting showered this morning, I went straight into the kitchen and prepared tonights dinner. Lamb Steaks, new potatoes (I stood and scraped them, with my own FAIR HANDS) Carrots, sugar snap peas, sweetcorn and sweetheart cabbage.

The fish and chips were quite nice last night, but poor Ros, they didn't have Fish Cakes or Pineapple fritters, so had Sausages. They were these enormous FRANKFURTER TYPE. She said they tasted horrible, and ended up with EGG and CHIPS.

Stay safe dear people. xxxx

Afternoon All
On my second bag of blood now.So just another 3 hours to go :-) I am looking out at this beautiful blue sky ,it looks so nice out there.
Mel I hope your finger is less painful now.AnnG suggestion of putting some Savlon on it is a good idea.
Frank at least Ros is still carrying on with her good work :-D :-D She is a real trooper
Now I need to go to the loo so will have to manoeuvre this drip stand and try not to get tangled up.

AnninGlos Report 23 Apr 2020 15:05

Oh Jane what a long day for you. Yes it is a lovely day, I haven't been out there much, just for a coffee this morning, been busy clearing out one of the kitchen cupboards, the one with saucepans and tupperware in. You know, do much of it, can't use it all but can't throw it out!!! Hope you will be home soon and ready to run round the block.

Frank, I suppose some of the bags have maybe split on the seam if people are a bit rough with them and the double seam would make them stronger. But it may be that some people have not used suitable material for the bags. ros is still giving to the NHS if she is giving to the local hospital though. She is doing well.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 23 Apr 2020 15:19

I did put TCP on my thorn scratch can't use Savlon as it dos'nt agree with me.

Soooooooooooooo good to hear from you Jane and you must be on the way home by now or soon anyway. Have a nice rest when you get home with a nice COT. <3 Who took you and picked you up?

How is James getting on with the new job and working from home?

I had an eventful morning as I washed the three tray they strawberries sit in on the old barrow. Washed the first one ok with the hose and then the second and put that to dry and then the third and as I pointed the hose at it the sprayer came off and it soaked me through. Luckily it was a bit of a time when I did the third one and the water in the hose was really quite warm so I carried on.

Got up from lunch and realized my trousers were still wet, that won't do much for my right knee will it.

Oh saw it happen and came over to me and said "I promiss not to laugh"" HE HE HE but he did put the hose back on for me so it was nice and tight. I must remember to tug it by the pipe and not the sprayer. :-0 :-0 :-0

Annx Report 23 Apr 2020 16:36

Oh Jane it's not a quick job is it getting blood into you. What a long day. I just had a silly thought.......I wonder where your own blood goes when you squeeze in 2 extra bags?? I expect your vessels must expand and kidneys remove some of the extra fluid though.....it sounds feasible. ;-) As Mel says, a nice relax at home and COT after. <3

It ended up quite a large meal AnnG, but we polished it all off, spinach and all and won't want much else today. I'm lucky in that OH isn't a fussy eater and will eat almost anything as long as there's no chilli or much curry powder. We turned our chairs round after lunch and just sat in the sun looking at the sky and garden. The Buzzard was back with the strange whistle they make and was climbing on the thermals. OH is annoyed at the moment, as he was booked on a webinar this afternoon and had reminders yesterday and today, but when he tried to log on it said it was full. He's fired off an email as they had obviously overbooked!

Frank that woman will lose the NHS a lot of help if she wasn't very tactful and upsets helpers like Ros who are doing such a sterling job. Good for her changing to help the local hospital instead........is she doing double seams on those or shouldn't I ask!!!! Glad you got your Cooper order sorted.

Some of my cupboards are quite crammed AnnG and I know if I empty them that it is likely something won't fit back in! I have some things that I know I'll never use so I've decided they should go to the charity shop once they open. I keep reminding myself that there will be no room for new things if I keep hanging on to the old or never used. I mentioned we have a sandwich toaster to OH and his comment was that the fillings stick to it and are hard to clean off and that we have 2 different sizes of bread anyway. I think that will be going to the charity shop! I'm a bit of a hoarder of all kinds of plastic box, but there comes a time when some need sorting and chucking out or removing to use in the garage or greenhouse. I used to hoard jam jars too but keep just a few now in case I make pickles or jam.

I think more seeds have come and may be the french beans but I will open them tomorrow.

I still can't get through to the holiday people and have been trying all day. :-(

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 23 Apr 2020 16:46

Sometimes I think those plastic boxes with click shut lids are breeding in the cupboard. There are more than I need at the moment but that is because I recovered several from the freezer in the last couple of weeks. I have put three items into the charity shop bag two sealable containers meant for left over lemon and limes and a contraption for cutting potatoes into wedges.

Finished the bed and cleaned the windows in there.

Washing all dry, good.

Hurt knee again walking around the bed.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 23 Apr 2020 17:43

I dar'nt clean my corner cupboards out next to the sink as all I use is to hand more or less and if I clear them out I shan't be able to reach and get what I want. I know there are about four or five 1lb loaf time in there so perhaps they should go to the charity shop and I shall keep just one for a tea bread or lemon drizzle cake, or maybe I will keep two...............

I wish I could get some of that quick action yeast. I keep looking for it on Asda's lists but its always out of stock as is the strong flour.

Just a quickie. Somehow I've hurt my back and can't seem to move around very well. I tried a soak in the bath, but pulled it again getting out, so that didn't go to plan. It's very painful in my ribs, it started late yesterday afternoon. I don't know what I've done but it really hurts so I'm laying down on the sofa, just getting up to move around every now and then. I hope it stops hurting soon and I have a better nights sleep than I had last night.

I tried to read all the posts but there were to many. I''ll be posting everything to Sandra either Saturday or Monday so will add everything you all send to the parcel.

I hope all those that have hurt themselves feel better soon.

Thinking of you Jane, hopefully you'll be home and resting now.

I hope Ros is getting on well with the scrub bags Frank, what a horrible thing the woman said, I don't blame Ros for not doing anymore for her and is now making them for the General Hospital instead.

Going to take another painkiller now, see if that helps. Hopefully I'll be back on here tomorrow, if it's not as painful as today.

Gill that sounds painful. When I hurt my back I found I got the best relief from deep heat cream rubbed on. Hope you can sleep tonight and hope it easies soon

Good morning AnninG. and all,

Nice morning here again, had a reasonable night and was awake at 6,00 am.

Yes I was out there with Ros last night, clapping, quite a few people out in the close, doing the same.

I managed the front lawn, but didn't trim the edges, will do that today. Eos put her veg seed in the VEG bed, and I watered everywhere last night. Her beans are coming along a treat.

Havey has a slot for us for Saturday 3/4 pm. He is also popping up to bring us something. He can take back the flavoured water he ordered for us, as we don't drink it.

Another THIRTY scrub bags, were collected last night for the hospital. I also had an Email from two other wards, asking for some. Helen, the girl who in a nurse in the Hospital, has promised to take sone to them. SO FAME IS GETTING AROUND FOR MY DEAR ROS. xxxx

Right folks, I'm off for another cot then my shower. Please take care if you are out today. STSY SAFE. xxxx

Morning All,

Yes lots of sunshine again!

Sorry to hear you have hurt your back Gill. It sounds very painful so I hope you got some sleep. It's the turning over that can really hurt. Try a hot water bottle next to it and rest up a bit today and just potter.

That would be good if you could get some plants delivered AnnG. Things are looking a bit bare here!

Ros must be sleeping well after all the sewing Frank! Her good work is clearly much appreciated though.

Better go as I still can't get through to the holiday people after hanging on in a queue for 20 minutes!! OH has the jet washer ready for action!!

Gillx

Gillx Report 24 Apr 2020 11:27

Morning all

Lovely and sunny here to

My back is a little better this morning, not as painful. OH thinks it's to much time on my laptop sitting in the same position for long periods of time, so although I'm still going to carry on with my family tree, I will make sure I move around a bit more and not go on the laptop as much.

I hope you manage to get through to the holiday people Ann and aren't in the queue for to long. I bet all our phone bills are going to be a lot higher with lockdown, the phone companies must be making a fortune.

Pleased to see you had a reasonable night's sleep Frank, I had an okay one all things considered, but turning over in the night, like Ann said, with the pain in my back woke me up a few times. I see word is getting around about Ros and her scrub bags, good on her, she's working so hard on them. Glad Ros managed to get through to Coopers and got the pillow you wanted.

Hope your knee starts to feel better soon Mel, it's not very nice when you can't move around like you normally do.

Going to take another look at my family tree now while my back isn't so sore, although I won't be sitting in the same position for to long, I don't want it to start hurting like it did yesterday.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 Apr 2020 14:31

Well that was good service OH phoned the garden centre, a small one that normally does conifers and heathers etc, but which used to have a larger garden centre round the corner from us about 10 years ago. They delivered Verbenas, fuchsias and 2 calibrachoas to us this morning. We had to have £25 worth to get free delivery but managed that ok and the plants are quite large and very healthy.. Then I cleared out the top shelf of the airing cupboard and filled a very large carrier bag with several sheets and two duvet covers for the local ladies to make into scrub bags. That was collected off the drive by a local councillor. and Cynth got our shopping and also brought us two pieces of sponge she made.

Gill pleased your back is easier but it possibly is the way you are using your laptop Better ease up a bit.

Ann have you managed to get through to the holiday place yet?

Frank another good job done now the front lawn is cut. OH cut our lawn this morning. well done ros for all those bags.

Mel you have to try not to twist your knee when you turn although I bet you remember too late when it hurts you. :-) :-)

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Apr 2020 15:28

I'm pleassed your back is a little better today Gill but don't over do it on the pc or you will be back to square one.

Knee is a little better today and I am not walking around much today so I think thats what was making it hurt so much. Trotting around the garden and doing things like going up big steps. Its back and forth in the kitchen that does it too.

Made 21 spicy little cakes this morning so we have something to have with our afternoon cuppa now.

Ann I do hope you are able to get in touch with your holiday people today. They must be a very busy little business to have so many callers. I bet its driving them up the wall. I feel so sorry for people who open their houses to tourist at this time of year and all the money they have lost. Shops to and small businesses. I always remember when we had the nursary and did the markets that people would be buying the plants to make their houses look nice for the visitors.

Anng you've been lucky to get some Milion Bells plants. They are such good doers and I shall miss those this year. I tend to go for the purples and pinks but there are so many colours in them now. Had a good clear out in the airing cupboard I see and found some useful things to have scrub bags made. Enjoy your sponge cake.
