I have been in the garden all afternoon and tidied all the hosta. It took me the whole afternoon. I also split an iris into three pots while he was'nt looking at what I was doing. I wanted to do it last year but he would'nt let me. This year it was all round the edge of the pot with a bare middle.

Off to cook the steak now for our tea. We are having rump in rolls so nice and easy and a nice bottles of White Greneche.

You can send the card to me Vera for Sandra, then we can post it to her if OH doesn't have any symptoms, I'm not sure what to do about sending things to her right now, best to wait and see what happens. I hadn't really thought about it until you mentioned the card.

Does anyone know if the virus can be passed on through post sent to people? It's not something I've thought about, but need to think about it now with Sandra's birthday coming up and OH being in contact with a few people with Coronavirus. The things you have to think about that normally you wouldn't be bothered with. I had heard that the virus can stay on paper for up to 24 hours and cardboard up to 72 hours, I'll be sending her parcel in a cardboard box, so it's a bit of a worry when it would take less than 72 hour to reach her. Has anyone else heard that?

It sounds like you've been busy today Mel, you'll sleep tonight.

I find peeling eggs a bit fiddly to Ann, sometimes I strike lucky and it comes away almost in one go, but that's not very often. At least he had a go which saved you the fiddly job.

OH and I have been watching Gordon, Gino and Fred's American road trip, boy is it funny. At least we can catch up on the programmes I'd recorded for us both to watch now. I was quickly running out of space on the planner for other things I wanted to record.

We saw the first bat of the year before, we were sitting outside listening to the birds saying goodnight to each other and there it was flying around our back garden and the neighbour's gardens. I was thinking about the bats the other day and wondering when we'd see them again.

Going to watch another Gordon, Gino and Fred programme now, then I think we'll be up to date with them.

Gwyn in Kent Report 12 Apr 2020 06:32

Good morning all.
I hope you have a pleasant day.

Gill,
I saw a bat recently too. It was the evening of the Thursday before last. We had gone outside for the 8 p.m clapping, when it suddenly appeared and was darting between the houses. We used to see them a lot years ago, but not so many in more recent years.I saw another one over a nearby road, on the following Monday

Regarding post, it is taking quite a while for delivery sometimes, lately.I posted cards to Hampshire on Monday evening to catch the early morning collection on Tuesday and yesterday I spoke to my sister and they had not arrived. She had sent me an Easter card and that too has not been delivered here yet

Not sure yet what I will do today. The garden still needs working on to get rid of more of the 3 cornered leek, but our garden bin is full to the top, so it might just have to be a bit of tidying until the bin has been emptied early this coming week.
Thank goodness our council are still collecting from garden bins. There's always so much to go at this time of year.

SuffolkVera Report 12 Apr 2020 10:56

Good morning Gwyn and all

A beautiful day again. Not sure what I am going to do today; probably a bit more tidying up in the garden. OH has just come in and said he can hear a neighbour in her garden singing an Easter hymn. I wish I had heard her.

Regarding viruses on packaging Gill, advice is conflicting. Some people are being extremely careful and leaving packages unopened for several days. Others, us included, are just taking a little extra care. With larger packages I am wiping the box down with anti-bac wipes before opening, then wiping down any surface it has been on. Ordinary letters we are opening as they come. After all, we have a newspaper delivered every day. We are, of course, doing lots of hand washing before and after opening post, reading the paper etc. I will send Sandra’s card to you and you can decide whether to send it on or not.

Going to have a cup of coffee and prepare our meal. Might bbl. have a lovely Easter Day everyone.

Good morning to you all,

Had another excellent nights sleep. I stayed up until 10.45. Had the radio on, hoping to catch the eleven o'clock news, but or course being a Saturday night, there wasn't one. I did get out for the loo around 5 am, then slept until 10.00 am. This seems to be the regular time I am waking, for the pass few days.

Nice sunny morning, after the rain last night. Just our luck, we watered all the flower beds, back and front last night.

All the children have rung this morning, wishing us a Happy Easter Sunday. Conrad and Jan are sitting outside eating BACON Sarnies and having a coffee. Simon is Permanently moored up outside Covernty. He said the WILDLIFE seems very busy, little water voles, darting in and our of the canal bank.Kingfishers diving in the water for small fish. \they have seen another craft on the canal. So in total isolation.

Ros is busy in the kitchen, baking sponges and a fruit cake. I am going to sit outside with my book, and a coffee.

Stay SAFE. see you all later. xxx

Frank it sounds bliss on the canal for Simon and Sally and all that lovely wildlife too :-D

Gwyn our post is taking much longer to get here.We ordered postage stams from Royal mail a week ago and they still haven't arrived :-S It took over a fortnight for a package to arrive from Pet Planet .Yet some other things mainly form Amazon have been pretty quick. it seems to be all hit and miss.

Gill I will send you a card too for Sandra .

I have a big joint of Beef in the oven .We aim ot eat at 2 and link up on face time with Hannah and Gareth whilst we all dig in .Then at 5 pm we have a on line quiz that Hannah has set up.It will us ,them ,Janice Larry and Nephews and Niece all taking part.It could be a disaster but hopefully not. James is going to see if he can link my laptop up to the TV so it will be a bigger screen.Fingers crossed.

It has clouded over here now so we may well get a bit of the rain that is forecast .The garden will love it

<3 <3 <3 HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE, HOPE YOU HAVE A LOVELY DAY <3 <3 <3

It started off lovely and sunny, but now there are a few clouds forming. OH has cut the back lawn and is now doing the front.

No symptoms yet with either of us, so that's good, we're just hoping we can get through a week then we can relax, I keep asking him how he is. He did say it was nice to sit outside together this morning, we haven't done that in almost 2 months. We've done a bit of tidying up in the garden, lots of leaves down the bottom behind the large conifers, so that's all clean and tidy now.

I didn't see the bat again last night Gwyn, but I'm sure he'll be back soon. They fly so quickly don't they and if you're not out at the right time it can be a bit to dark to see them.

Yes, there's lots of conflicting information for the post, so when the cards arrive for Sandra I'll put them to one side like you said Vera and post them a little late. So long as I let her know she'll be okay. She'll be like the Queen and have 2 birthdays then. We weren't planning on posting anything to her until we know for sure OH doesn't have the virus or me as I could catch it off him if he has got it. That way it's safer, but then again you don't know who's touching it on route anyway.

It sounds like you have the same weather as us Jane, like you said the gardens will love a bit of rain. All our plants look much better after the heavy rain we had the other night. I'll put your card to one side with Vera's to. So it's a big quiz afternoon for you all, that should be fun. I hope James can link your laptop to the TV it'll be easier for everyone then. How is he getting on with his new job now? We have lamb today, haven't had that for ages, so we're looking forward to it later.

I'm so pleased you're having better nights sleep Frank, 10am is very late for you, I bet you feel more refreshed with the extra hours. You're not on your own with watering the garden before it rains, it happened to us the other day, it makes you wonder why you bothered in the first place. I'm sure the plants will enjoy the extra drink though. How nice for Simon and Sally to see all the wildlife and all that peace and quiet to.

Going to grab a drink then take another look on Ancestry, with a bit of luck I'll find something today. I gave up last night as I was going around in circles and getting no where with a few brick walls I've got, so I might look at a different part of the tree today instead.

Afternoon all,

It started really misty here this morning when I got up for the loo then when I woke later we had sunshine but now it has clouded over and the suns gone from the front to be all grey cloud now.

I asked next door to pick up my paper for me that they forgot to give me yesterday with my order. What paper did he bring me? The Mail on Sunday so I still have no telly programs. I only have a paper on a Saturday for the tv book inside. Keith did say he would save it for me.

Now going to do the big breakfast............... :-D

I had better say something or you will be sending out a search party. Not sure where the morning went and I have done nothing at all much except prepare tonight's meal.

Glad you had a good nights sleep Frank, I slept quite well too and we got up late as well. OH has been busy out in the garden using up the pot of sage paint so he freshened up the rail by the steps up to the lawn. I think that is probably the little tim empty now.

Jane, that is nice you have Easter all sorted as a family day with the help of face time. Hope it all works for you. It should be possible for James to connect to the TV as My OH has done it with his laptop and our TV. enjoy your 'family' day.
I have seen a video of Inara searching for her Easter eggs with her little basket, she was so excited. And also Adam and Luke searching for theirs and I noticed the dogs and the rabbit has their own special eggs whatever will they think of next. Also had e mails from DiL and daughter.

Mandy sounds like your family have all been in touch too, they make so much more of Easter than we did these days. I was lucky to get just one egg.

Mel I am the same as you, get the Saturday DM for the TV magazine. Missing it at the moment.

Gill hopefully neither of you will develop the virus.
Nice for you to have the opportunity to enjoy each others company anyway.

Vera we handle packages and shopping more or less as you do, although I do wipe the outside of envelopes that come in the post with disinfectant and open with gloves on as they have been handled by the postal staff.

I saw on FB this morning that somebody from our village has died from the virus. I didn't know him as far as I know. It is quite a large village.

Better get on. Enjoy the rest of your Easter day everyone. <3 <3

I for got to wish you all a Happy Easter but do so now and hope its not too late.

I too hav'nt done anything today except the breakfast. My egg from Mona was a double yolker and the yolks were huge so that was my easter egg.

I have mucked up my asda order as oh told me to pay for it which I did then went to add his ciggies and it came up for the next order!!!! Blast then he cancelled the order with the ciggies on and put in as order for one pot noodle to see what would happen. He has now mucked everything up cos that order has come up for two weeks time!!!!!
I was ok doing it through the week for things I wanted and paying on a Monday and now I don't know what to do??

<3 <3HAPPY EASTER and to you too Elizabeth <3 <3

It's been sunny all day here, but I expect it will be changing before long. Lunch of chicken with stuffing, crispy roast potatoes beans and carrots today and I had some roast potatoes too as a treat! We ate outside again, soon to be accompanied by the barker. Most unlike OH he actually swore at it today as it was barking all morning too while he was typing up notes.

Mel I noticed when I got my Asda click and collect slot a few days ago, at the top of the Asda screen where you sign in it now says that you cannot amend an order more than 2 days before it is due for delivery. That would be why you got a new basket. I am just keeping a written list of what I want to add to mine and will then add those things within the two days. How annoying for you though and I must admit the message doesn't exactly jump out at you.

Glad you had a better night Frank. Ros never stops does she and now she's baking as well!

That's a great idea Jane and I hope you do well in the quiz!

Hello Gwyn, I must look up this 3 cornered leek! My parents had bats that roosted in the little roof above a bay window and also in an outside toilet. I was a teenager and it scared me to death when one flew out of the toilet as I was going in at dusk. They didn't know they were above the bay window till dad removed it to add a conservatory. I don't think they were protected at that time.

Gill look at this link about what comes through your letterbox and the bit as you scroll down that Dr Perpetua Emeagi, a lecturer in Human Biology and Biological Sciences at Liverpool Hope University says.

https://metro.co.uk/2020/03/19/post-carry-coronavirus-need-follow-rule-mail-12422678/

Newspapers are fairly safe so they say with being absorbent and because of the inks and printing process, but we don't pick ours up off the mat till after lunch. We'd been leaving our post on the mat for 24 hours, but are leaving a box with a toilet brush and holder we bought on line, for 5 days as that is plastic. The alternative of course is to wipe everything down with something to kill the virus and wash your hands after, but I'm lazy so would sooner just wait if it isn't urgently needed. A prog I watched about cleaning your house to protect against the virus said to use tissue to switch the taps off after washing your hands, but we have been soaping and rinsing the taps at the same time we wash our hands which I would think is just as good. We tend to do a lot of what it said anyway, like using one pair of shoes to go out and not wear outdoor shoes indoors, keep the toilet seat down and keep toothbrushes in a cupboard.

Does the home where your OH works have a little garden where he could sit to have his meals so he isn't close to anyone?

That is so nice to get the pictures from the children Mandy. You should get them to draw a picture of you and Colin! lol. I bet they would giggle at each other's efforts. Of course we would want to see them too! lol :-D We like our meat done the same as you!

Mona had twins then Mel! I bet you enjoyed the double yolks. I can't remember last time I had a double yolk. I'm not complaining, but the supermarket eggs aren't a patch on the farm shop ones, despite all the encouraging advertising blurb on them. Still we can't be choosy and have to be thankful for what we can get just now.

Frank Report 12 Apr 2020 18:13

Late afternoon to you all,

Just finished dinner. Roast Beef, Yorkshire and plenty of veg. I prepare it, cooked it, and cleared it away, and did all the washing up. I am due for some BROWNIE POINTS. lol lol

Yes Chocolate sponge with cream filling. It's been some rime since she baked. But with all the knitting, and SCRUB BAG making, and Virus masks, Gardening and it seems she never stops. I often say to her. "You will soon meet yourself coming back" Where did that come from, my dear old Mum, often used that saying.

I dreamt about me DAD last night, but can't put it into my mind, what it was all about.
I tend to dream most nights, and can usually remember what they were about.

I hope you all had a good EASTER SUNDAY, even though we are all confined to home. We would normally be down in Devon with Jan and Conrad.

When this lot is over, I am going have Harvey,Julia and Lewis up for a real slap up meal, to thank them for all the support they have given us.

I expect I will sit through the HOSPITAL saga on ITV, then pop off to by bed.

Sleep tight my dear friends, see you in the morning. xxxx

Gillx Report 12 Apr 2020 18:25

It's pouring with rain here, at least the garden work we had planned for today was done before the rain came.

Just checked my emails, thank you Vera for the lovely card.

What a lovely necklace Ann, you are so clever everything you make is so pretty. Thanks for the link, I've just taken a look at it. It appears I was right about the virus being on cardboard longer than paper but I didn't know about plastic. I doubt Sandra or Michelle would do anything that was said on the link, they'd just open it straight away and probably not wash their hands afterwards......it's a worry isn't it? it's hard to know what to do for the best. I might keep hold of her cards and wait a while before sending them, this virus has to come to a head at some point and I'm sure if I explain to Sandra why it's best to wait she'll understand. I'd never forgive myself if our girls were ill due to us sending them parcels and cards.

OH's just said he's going to ring his boss tomorrow and ask her about going back to work next week as he's had no symptoms, if she says go back he will. He doesn't mind being home, he was off today anyway, but he doesn't want to much time off as he was just getting used to the hours and doesn't want to have to start all over again. He doesn't see the point in being off if he's okay, but will ask his boss what she thinks, that way it's up to her whether he goes back or not.

We're okay for shopping Mandy as we'd just done a big shop, mum said she would drop some food at our door if we need it, but neither of us eat that much so the food we have should last us a few weeks.

How did your quiz go Jane? I bet you all had a great time and probably a good laugh to. It's an Easter you'll all remember.

Oh dear Mel, I hope you sort your shopping out okay and you don't have to wait weeks for your next shop. Good news on Mona's egg though, good timing for Easter......bless her.

That's a bit close to home AnnG the poor man passing away from Coronavirus. Mind you, you just don't know who's ill and who isn't in your area do you? Was he far from you?

OH and I are watching a brilliant programme, well it's brilliant to us, all about renovating a 1950's house, they do DIY but show you how to do it. It covers pretty much everything. It's called "Our House" and was on at 3am on HGTV (a new channel) it went up to episode 30 but I didn't notice it until episode 24 so recorded the last few. It's series one so we'll be keeping an eye out for series two in the hope we don't miss any next time. We're up to episode 26 at the moment.

Better get back to it, I've got it on pause.

How lovely to be able to see the excited Inara looking for eggs! We are so lucky compared with previous generations.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 12 Apr 2020 19:03

We had a terrible thunderstorm an hour or so ago. I didn't see any lightening but there was a lot of loud thunder and a really heavy downpour that lasted quite a while. No need to water any plants tonight. My neighbour was on the phone to me when it started and I had to cut her off a bit sharpish as there were windows open in all the upstairs rooms. By the time I got up there the rain had come in through the open windows and I had to wipe all the bathroom floor and loo seat and also do some mopping up in one of the bedrooms. Even the carpet got quite wet. The atmosphere now is really heavy.

Our lamb was delicious. I thought I might have overcooked it as granddaughter phoned and it got left in the oven a bit longer than I intended, but it was really tender and flavoursome. We just had a choc ice for pud.

I've now noticed another little flower that has appeared in our garden unexpectedly. It is very low growing and has yellow shiny daisy-like petals and bronze leasves. After a lot of googling and looking in wildflower books and gardening books I think I have found it. I am fairly confident it is a celadine cultivar called Brazen Hussy. I guess a bird must have deposited a seed at some time. I think I will take it out as I suspect it might be a bit aggressive and end up rampaging all over the bed. Gardening's a real adventure isn't it? You never know what you are going to find next.

Tonight at 7.30 I am going to attempt to log on to a free live streaming of an Alfie Boe concert. It's being set up by the Royal Albert Hall but Alfie Boe is doing it from his home. I've no idea if he is just singing a couple of songs or if it is a full-length concert but I thought it was worth a try.

Mel, I forgot to mention the video with your niece. It was lovely to watch and she looked as though she was enjoying doing it.
