Gillx Report 3 Dec 2019 13:36

Hannah and Gareth are moving to be closer to Jane Frank, Hannah is handing in her notice at work this week and they are hoping to move in January, Gareth is going to commute to his place of work until March. In the meantime Hannah has some phone interviews for jobs in Northampton. Jane was quite emotional about their decision. We all think it was a lovely thing for them to do, as does Jane.

Still thinking of Jane and hoping things are going well <3 <3

That's a good idea to buy Ros a new watch. Yes Sekonda is a good make, so it should last her for years. How nice that Conrad is home for Christmas and arriving in the UK on your birthday. You could of knocked me down with a feather, as the saying goes, when I read how much British Rail are charging for their tickets.....what a cheek. I bet it's because it's Christmas time their prices are so high. Hope you have a better nights sleep tonight.

I found some Angel Delight in the cupboard (strawberry flavour, Sandra's favourite) so she's had some, which she seems to be able to swallow without it hurting her throat to much, she tried a tuna sandwich earlier but said the bread hurt when she tried to swallow. I've now got to think of things that she can eat that are soft as she's had kidney stones in the past so I don't like the idea of her having to much milk which is what the Angel Delight is made of, I think two or three times a week is enough milk, so I need to find other things for her, so she isn't hungry all the time. That's the thing with Virus's they can last up to three weeks. She's been unwell for almost a week now so hopefully she'll start feeling a little better towards the end of next week.......I hope so anyway as it won't be far of Christmas by then.

MESSAGE FROM SANDRA

She said she will write your Christmas cards when she's feeling a little better as she wants to put notes in them to thank everyone for their presents.

I offered to write them for her but she wants to do them herself. She was worried that you might have thought she wasn't going to send them to you, even though I said you wouldn't think that. They will be a little later than she planned, but will arrive in time for Christmas.

I've just told her I've passed on her message to you all so she's a bit calmer now. I think she might have a sleep soon, her eyes are starting to droop a bit. Sleep is the best medicine, so should do her the world of good.

Afternoon all,

Cold here today and we've been outside most of the morning getting the christmas tree in place by the front door ,we got it sorted and the lights are n so that will do for today ,tomorrow we want to get the lights round the front door ad then on thursday son is coming to put the lights up on the guttering for us so we should look pretty by the weekend .

I hope Jane is doing ok it's going to be a very long day for her ,i do hope there's no side effects from the drugs
I think it's a lovely thing that Hannah and Gareth are doing by moving back to be near Jane and family at this time they are so thoughtful .

Poor Sandra with her bad throat ,i hope she soon feels better and you tell her not to worry about the christmas cards but to just get better first ,what about a little jelly Gill that would just slide down ,i was going to say a little ice cream but thats a bit milky so what about some Sorbet that would be nice and cooling for her throat .

A watch sounds just the thing for Ros Frank your always wondering what you can buy her ,i hope she soon hears from the hospital so she can be treated hopefully before you go away .

Oh Mel and after all your hard work making all the lovely things too ,the little hats are lovely i have seen them made on you tube and thought it might be some thing the girls could have a go at .
Could you load the car and sit on the car park just in case some one doesn't turn up for a stall, you could be a bit cheeky and sell from the car .
The Advent Ring is lovely with all the candles in .

Ann the wreath is lovely ,i thought it was going to be all Pom Poms but with the material too it looks a treat
Hope OH's back is getting better after him wrenching it again ,the slipper socks sound a good idea for him as a stocking filler .

Vera hope the window pane is all fitted now and you didn't lose to much heat while it was being done ,i had to smile at your training of OH in cleaning the bathrooms
:-D a little at a time adding a bit extra on each time :-D

Annx Report 3 Dec 2019 15:15

Afternoon All,

I managed another good night's sleep although I was awake till about 2.00am and I feel ok today. I got up at 9.30am and did my stint on the exercise bike, just 5 minutes, then changed the bed and loaded the washer which is now whirring away. We went to the carvery at the Manor and they have stopped doing the small, medium and large plate carvery till after Christmas now and are doing a simple festive lunch carvery on medium plates with a festive price to go with it! :-S They have just added more kinds of veg and pigs in blankets etc. OH took ages ordering as the manager was operating the till and having problems he said were the till's fault. We were glad we were first to be served as a lot of tables were reserved for an old folks outing and they took ages getting served as they couldn't decide what they wanted. With both being used to small plates, we had to leave some food today as we were full. When OH went to pay, the manager told OH he had already paid when he ordered, so we scarpered quick before he changed his mind as we knew we hadn't! If they realise later, we will pay next week, but it's their responsibility to get things right. So the expensive festive lunch was free in the end. :-D

I hope Jane's treatment goes well today and tomorrow. I expect she will meet others doing the same to chat to, but I don't really know how these things work. Hopefully she will be fine.

I hope Sandra's throat soon feels better Gill and tell her she mustn't worry about our cards till she feels a bit better. I know she will make a lovely job of them so it will be something for us all to look forward to! :-D :-D I think she needs to rest and enjoy her Christmas Films just now. ;-) ;-)

Oh Mel, how disappointing you can't get a stall after making all your lovely things! You would have thought they could squeeze you in somewhere. I would do as Gill suggests and ring round first. Failing that, just put everything in a box till next year. You will have a head start then and even more things to sell. :-)

Vera, I had just the same experience as you. My school was Alderman Newton's Girls' Grammar School. Two different positions for the apostrophes like you and we sure had to get them right and, as you say, it was drummed into us!! :-0 It was the same with spelling too, any errors would have red rings put around them with exclamation marks and you felt that what you wrote was of no importance if the spelling and grammar were not spot on. I have stumbling blocks with some words with double letters or not in them, and because it was instilled in us to get things right, I still keep a dictionary handy. Gosh that pan took a shelf full of products to clean it didn't it! Worth it though to save a quality pan and get biceps like Popeye! ;-) :-D I have had one of those scented shrubs in front of a wall at the side of the garage and it has been slow growing but thrived. It doesn't get much rain where it is, so I wonder if they like good drainage around their roots? If so yours should do well in the troughs like your others have done.

I wonder who the Christmas Card was from Frank? At least there was a clue in the car they now have. I had a Sekonda watch once and it lasted me years so Ros should be pleased with the make. I have 4 watches, but stopped wearing them once I finished work, as I didn't have lots of appointments to get to anymore. I rely on 2 clocks in my car or my mobile for the time now, although looking at a watch is quicker than fumbling for a mobile in my bag. Is it this week you see about your eye lasering?

AnninGlos Report 3 Dec 2019 16:06

Poor Sandra, it sounds as though she has swollen tonsils. What about sorbets if you don'y want to give her ice cream because of the milk. Luke warm chicken soup would be soothing. does she like scrambled egg? Hope it improves soon. You could ask at the surgery how much she can drink before it is going to cause kidney stones. Unless they ahve already told you. Ah Mandy beat me to it.

Lucky to have a free meal Ann, a bit cheeky of them to stop doing small plates, I guess they don't need your custom then with all the parties. But it is not nice to have to waste food, not a good move by the restaurant.

Vera, glad you got the saucepan clean. I tried white vinegar, then washing up liquid and boiled it, then dishwasher, then scrubbed as a last resort I used bleach and it soon came off. Then ran it through the dishwasher to get rid of any bleach and it is now shiny new.

Gill, I meant to say, Please tell Sandra to just rest and get well again. the cards can wait we don't mind.

Frank, a Seconda watch is a lovely present for Ros, a good make. Lovely that Conrad will be home for Christmas.

Thinking of Jane and hoping she has had somebody to chat to, I think people are usually in together while having chemo. Stay strong Jane we are all thinking of you.

Today I have done the two floral arrangements for the lounge, Nothing special, artificial stuff collected over the years and have also put my little crib display up, again nothing special but it is traditional for us and just sits on the sideboard. We also went out to a garden centre for breakfast which was nice. Managed to get a couple more presents.

Tomorrow we are going on a coach trip to Bath so have to be up early, have to be at the community centre before 9am so that is going to be a bit of a shock. won't be back until early evening. We are going to Tymtesfield National Trust first, then on to Bath to see a bit of the Christmas market. One group is just going t the market so we drop them off first and meet up with them after lunch.

Heard yesterday that son, his wife and our two grandchildren are coming here Monday next to deliver/collect Christmas presents. It is a year since we last saw them, they are all so busy and James has been in Guatemala, as he goes to China in January we are pleased he is able to come.

Lol, Just had the run down on the tidying up the leaves in the garden and the fact he has a broken nail that he is just going to cut.

This morning as I picked up an inner bit from a toilet roll ....AGAIN.... I asked him what made it difficult to put it in a bin or in the recycling. His answer ;I was going to but I forgot'. as it is his favourite saying I said it was going to be his epitaph. :-D

Back and unpacked and had a nice cuppa and cake. I have'nt the foggiest idea how I got through today after the upset this morning about the stall and then Jane on my mind too. I do hope it was'nt too bad for her today. We had a neighbour who has just had a chemo treatment and he is much better now so I am very hopefull Jane will get along ok with it.

Thats a lovely present for Ros Frank and I am sure she will love it especially as its rose gold and a good make. It will be nice to have Conrad back for Christmas too.

Poor little Sandra yes tell her not to worry about our cards as we all now the reason why they may be a bit late but we are all looking forward to receiving them as she has made them all. I think chicken soup is a good idea for something for her to eat that slides down and jelly but not together!!!! You could also get her some Manuka honey for her to have a teaspoonfull when she wants it after all its the best honey in the world and cures all kinds of things. I used it when my throat was bad a week or so ago and it works a treat.

Mandy I had thought about taking my stuff up the hall on Thursday just in case as it has happened before that stall people hav'nt turned up on the day. I even said to oh about diplaying in the back of my car but he said I could'nt do that. I have looked around local villages but not any of them do a Christmas fair now. Bradford used to have a lovely fair I went to with mum but when I spoke to the lady on the phone she said all the ladies were now getting much older and did'nt want to do all the preperation now.

Ann that was a good lunch after all in the end if you had it buck shee and it did'nt matter that you left some things.

I am still going to the fare to see who has stalls there and what Anne has on her stall because I think she may have pinched some of my ideas and I am interested to see. I am not going to tell her what I make in future. She even gave me some material for my Fairy Sleepover kits so she knew about those.

Oh has his usual curry tonight and I have a nice egg and salad of all different kinds off the counter at Morrisons.

Anng have a nice outing tomorrow and it will be worth the early start to see it all.

Oh has just renewed my sub to the Landscape mag as an early Christmas present. Is'nt that nice of him? A present that will last me all year.

Whats the Naughty Elf been up to today I wonder??

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 3 Dec 2019 19:23

Mel, you must have been spitting feathers this morning. That is really annoying. I wonder if you needed to book well in advance and get written confirmation. A few people from our Ladies Group have a craft stall at a Xmas Fair and a Summer Fete and I know they book months in advance. Do any of your nearest towns or villages have a regular car boot sale? I think you can usually get a car space at short notice at boot sales.

I've been thinking of Jane today as well. Chemo does vary from person to person and some people tolerate it pretty well. I hope she has an easy ride. Jane, if you are looking in there's lots of positive vibes coming your way <3 <3

Lol AnnG, are our husbands twins? I was out this afternoon and when I came back I had a very detailed account of how he had cleaned the stainless steel splashback thing that goes up from my range cooker to the hood above it. I heard what cleaning products and what cloths he used, how long it took and so on and so on and on and on.....To be fair he has made a lovely job of it but I didn't need every detail. I laughed at the toilet roll inner as well. I recently pointed out to OH a placard for sale in a shop we were in. It said "Changing a toilet roll does not cause brain damage". I've also said many a time that I am going to have "I meant to do it" engraved on his headstone.

Enjoy your trip tomorrow. We are also on a coach outing tomorrow. We are going to Polesden Lacey which is also a NT place. The house will be decorated and there is a Christmas market so, as long as the day is dry, it should be quite enjoyable. It's good the family are visiting you and it will be lovely for you to see your grandson before he goes off to China.

It makes me very cross when restaurants tweak their menus a bit and then put up the prices just because it's Christmas. It seems so short-sighted as I am sure they must end up losing some of their regular customers. I am pleased you got your meal foc, Ann. Your OH tried to pay and they wouldn't accept it so more fool them.

Your house is going to look really pretty Mandy once all your lights are switched on. As for training OH to clean, you'd think after all these years of marriage I might have succeeded by now but it's an ongoing battle. On the other hand, if he was perfect I'd have nothing to moan about would I? Our glazier turned up as promised and fitted our window. He had a young woman with him today and between them they did it quite quickly. We have been pleased with the service he's given us so I have just paid the invoice he left with us today. It only seems fair that if he has done the work and we are satisfied with it then he should be paid promptly.

I had a Sekonda watch once Frank and it seemed to last for years. I am sure Ros will be pleased with it. Isn't your Christmas card intriguing? Have you found out who it is from yet? Every year we get three cards from Jean and John. As far as I know, we only know two couples with those names and I recognise their writing. I've never managed to find out who the other Jean and John are but they must be disappointed every year not to get a card from us. That rail fare is exorbitant. A few years ago I managed to get from here in Suffolk via London to Devon for £23, but I do have a senior rail card and I managed to get one of the cheap advance tickets as soon as they were issued. I know they limit the number of cheap price tickets.

Sorry to hear Sandra is still poorly Gill. I hope she feels better soon. Please thank her for her message and tell her that she's not to worry about cards and notes until she really feels better. It's more important that she rests and gets well and we all understand.

This afternoon our Ladies Association had its Christmas meeting. We all take a plate of food and a secret Santa present. I did a load of little French toasts (our of a packet), spread them with cream cheese and then topped about two thirds with parma ham. The other third I topped with things like sliced cucumber for the non-meat eaters. There are about 40 in the Club and most were there so there was a good variety of savoury and sweet foods to make a very filling afternoon tea. The Santa present I got was a rose perfumed hand wash and hand lotion in a nice holder and some bath bombs. I'm not over keen on the bath bombs so they may get passed on but I was pleased with the hand stuff. We don't spend a lot of money but you can usually find something good and inexpensive in the shops but I find some people don't use their imagination at all so several people got a tin of biscuits or a box of chocolates.

Having eaten this afternoon I am not hungry at all but I expect OH is so I must go and put a pizza or something in the oven for him. Might not be posting tomorrow so I hope you all have a good day. See you in a day or two.

I think they must be Vera. The problem usually is I am often in the middle of doing something when he starts and it is difficult to look interested when he is rabbiting on and I am trying to write a letter or something. And I had spent ages doing floral decorations so had just sat down for a rest when he was telling me all he had done. I finally managed to get in what I had done too. :-D I think it must go back to being told what good boys they were by their mothers when they achieved something.
Enjoy your trip tomorrow.

Annx Report 3 Dec 2019 22:35

Oh Mel, I hope she hasn't pinched your ideas, but it's a good idea to go and check. I would do the same! I couldn't understand why she couldn't share a table with you. You could both have put extra things out as you sold some then.

I had to smile at your OHs AnnG and Vera. They can't help it can they but where did they learn it from as they all seem the same? Edit.....just saw your post and you could be right.......doting mothers! Mine has been too busy catching up with his work today, so I have picked up doing his home chores.

AnnG that sounds like a lovely trip tomorrow and worth the early start. I think the weather is supposed to be dry too so that is good.

That was quite some choice with 40 plates of food Vera and your hand lotion and cream sound nice? Is the Ladies Association a social thing? Enjoy your trip tomorrow. The NT decorate their houses so nicely this time of year.

The Manor where we went today is a Best Western Hotel and Golf Course and they usually stop serving any carveries at all during January, so OH collared one of the Hotel managers we know there to ask if they will be doing the same this time. Apparently not as they have found they have lost some of the regulars in past years!. OH told him that we have rung to check in previous years and gone elsewhere if they weren't doing carveries.

Your house will look pretty all lit up Mandy and it's good of your son to come and put the high up lights in place for you. The bungalow diagonally opposite have lit theirs today......pretty multicoloured twinkles! I like those.

Afternoon all

Been thinking of Jane, hope all has gone well for her, sending hugs from Sandra and I <3 <3 <3

I've been helping Sandra with her Christmas cards today and OH has just gone to post them so you should all have them shortly. I've also posted birthday cards for Frank and Anne. I've written birthday on the back of those so you know which ones they are.

I got up this morning and decided to write my Christmas cards out which is why I think Sandra decided to do hers. So I helped her with hers first then made a start on mine and have only just finished.

I've taken my birthday cards down now and put up the Christmas cards off Vera and AnnG, thank you they are lovely.

OH had already gone to post the Christmas cards to you all so I haven't put your husband's name on your card AnnG. Maybe you could add it when you open it. I didn't know his name until I opened your card, so I hope he doesn't think I've forgotten him.

I've banged my shoulder so I'm going to rest my arm now as it's quite sore. It's my own fault I was walking out of the living room with my glasses on, which aren't for long distance, so everything was a bit blurry and I caught the side of the door as I walked through........silly me. So I'm paying the price now.

I haven't read the posts yet as I'm thirsty and need a drink, so I'll catch up with them later. Hope everyone is okay.

Gillx Report 4 Dec 2019 16:38

Thanks everyone for your understanding of Sandra's situation about her Christmas cards. She had already made them all so with my help she managed to write them all out this morning and they are on there way to you.

It sounds like you're busy decorating outside with a tree and Christmas lights Mandy, it's going to look lovely when it's finished. Jelly and Sorbet sound just the things for Sandra, we've been racking our brains on what she can eat each day and have come up with burgers rice and gravy. She said the burgers don't hurt her throat as much as other things and I thought the rice and gravy she could just swallow instead of having to chew bulkier things, so we're going to try that tonight. OH and I have started with the virus now and also have sore throats so I'm having omelette and rice, not sure what OH is having yet as he hasn't decided.

How nice to have your family around AnnG especially with not seeing them for such a long time. I'm sure you'll all have lots to talk about. Hope you had a good time in Bath today.

I'm sure lots of people wouldn't of said anything about not paying for their meals either Ann, so don't worry to much about it and like you said if they realise their mistake you can always pay next week.

Your afternoon tea sounded really nice Vera, that was a good idea of yours that you took. I'm the same as you and not keen on bath bombs either, the other things sound nice though. Hope you had a nice day out today.

I hope Anne hasn't pinched your ideas Mel, that wouldn't be a very nice thing to do would it? Have you managed to find another Christmas fair you can go to yet? I love proper Cornish pasties from down south, they just don't taste the same in other parts of the country, so I don't know why they called them Cornish as they're definitely not.

Going to sort something out to eat now, I've been so busy I haven't had anything yet and I'm hungry.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 4 Dec 2019 17:47

Hope Jane was ok today and no side effect from the treatment so far. Sending love and hugs. <3 <3 <3

I have been in the shed most of the day and have finished 5 rings and just started another when I had to go and corn the chickens then took the dustbin out after defrosting the car and some places on our road still have frost on them so I turned the car around while it was still light as all the windows were misted up. Came in and had a cuppa and a mince pie.

You should have seen the state of my hands and fingernails as the gloves I had on have fallen apart on the ends where I get them stuck under the wires when I am doing the bunches to put on the rings. I think it will be a new pair tomorrow but they were the ones I used last year so they did very well for thin latex ones.

Gill you could try Sandra on some nice tasty mince and mash with gravy and that should slide down ok. Like shepherds pie but deconstructed. Some nice carrot chopped up small in it shoudl be ok. I am sure she could eat that if she can eat burgers. I am looking forward to getting her card. I still only have one at the moment and hav'nt found my string yet. What about a nice bovril drink you can get it in chicken flavour now too.

Oh has bought me a nice warm coat for Christmas from Cotton traders. I shall look like one of the Roly Polies in it as its padded but I don't care as long as its warm and this one has a hood which I wanted and it in a lovely dark mauve. He also renewed my sub for the Landscape magazine so I don't have to worry about that now either. Its things I want and will use as I hate it when he buys me things that just go in the cupboard never to see daylight again.

Hope AnnG and Vera had a nice time out today with a nice meal too and managed to get some presents.

Off in a min to go and get the fish and chips.

Annx Report 4 Dec 2019 18:45

Evening All,

I had another good sleep last night. I takes me ages to get off to sleep but it's good to get 8 hours in for a change. I went to the dogs' home charity shop this morning to look for men's tweed or wool jackets for my idea of making the Owl cushion. I did see one that might be suitable but my word their prices have gone up, also for the beaded jewellery. I think it might be cheaper to buy on line if I do decide to make one. The material would be good for wool felting onto, but then again you can get sample squares on the internet more cheaply.

On the way back through the village I joined a funeral procession outside the Undertakers. It was nice to see the hearse being led on foot through the village and most likely they were heading to the village church, very dignified and respectful. I then got my car washed and it looked good for all of 5 minutes with other car tyres flicking up mud. :-S

I hope Jane is home again now after her second day and is feeling ok. <3 <3

I bet the front of your house looks good with the tree up Mandy. Do you just festoon it with lights or put anything else on it? I expect the children are getting excited now, especially the little ones. :-D I just have the remains of the cough now, but nothing much, thanks and OH was lucky with his back as it seems ok again.

Gill I hope your throats clear up quickly and aren't as bad as poor Sandra's. Raw garlic and ginger are antiviral, but not very appetising! She has done well to write the cards with your help, but shouldn't have worried just yet while she feels poorly.

I hope AnnG and Vera have enjoyed their trips out and bought some nice things.

OH has been busy with his work all day and is out again tonight. He's been approached with more work, but decided to turn it down as he has said the way things are going he is already doing full time work in part time hours! Tomorrow we hope to go to the big garden centre in Rutland that has the big log burners in the restaurant and a big Christmas display with things you don't see elsewhere. I want to get one of those candle bridge things to put in the front window.

I've had the steam mop out while he's out and done the kitchen floor so I'd better empty it and put it away now it's dry.

Gillx

Gillx Report 4 Dec 2019 19:33

We've got a candle bridge Ann, my aunt gave it to me years ago but unfortunately someone cut the cable to about 4 inches so we have to connect it to an extension lead. It's still pretty though and I've attached a couple of small red bows to it and put the picture I made in front, so the lights shine over it. The picture is made up of lots of trees, a house, a church and carol singers, children and a little dog, all in snow. It's a collage and looks really good. All I did was cut pictures of snow covered Christmas trees plus all the other things from a few magazines advertising Christmas cards and stuck them down into a lovely snowy picture. I'm quite proud of it and have it up every year, in a lovely frame my mum gave me. Pleased to hear you're having good nights of sleep now, you must feel much better for them. The garden centre sounds nice, I hope the weather is nice when you go, it's forecast to be very cold, wet and very windy here over the next few days.

Thanks for your suggestions of mince and mash Mel, I was thinking of mince the other day, but she didn't fancy it when I mentioned it to her, maybe she might try some if I suggest it again. she's not keen on mash but will eat boiled potatoes with it. Your coat sounds nice and warm, you'll be grateful of it with the cold days we've been having.

I am so pleased it has made my day! :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Oh that's great news Mel! :-D I hope you have a good day tomorrow. I thought they could do that if they tried and more stalls tend to have people coming back another year if there's plenty to see. I'm so chuffed for you. :-)

I like those padded coats and don't care if I look like a Michelin man! Some are very lightweight too and I would love the mauve colour! It's nice to have a really warm coat for when it's freezing.

Gill your picture sounds really nice and it's surprising what nice things you can make with bits and bobs isn't it. I bought a little Santa sleigh from the works a while ago and must find my paints and decorate it as it is bare wood. I'm really looking forward to seeing the Christmas things tomorrow as they have jigsaws you don't see elsewhere too and some nice gifts. I might be tempted with another water spinner as well if there are some nice ones. lol OH says we can go if we aren't too long as he has work to get on with after as he's really busy this time of year. There's no fear of that though as my knees can only potter for so long and we'll have a brunch there so he can work on when we get back. I'd sooner him come with me as he will drop me off at the door.
