Gill are you sure he was'nt getting all the cases out of the car having the light on?

Magpye Report 11 Aug 2019 13:05

Better day here, but still very unsettled! I did manage to dry some washing this morning, at least it's dry enough for the airing cupboard!
We've had a clear up in the greenhouse this morning! Everything seems to get so untidy!! I wonder why?!!!
Mel I have sent you a pm.

Frank

Frank Report 11 Aug 2019 13:22

Afternoon all, My you have been busy since I posted yesterday I will try to catch up on them in more detail,

Mel that EGG is enormous, Poor girl laying that. It's giving my bum a twitch just thinking about it. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Not a good outcome for the painting Gill, it's very annoying when paint get washed off, and the mess it causes.

Anne your OH was very lucky not to have landed himself at the POLICE STATION. Where on earth was the childs Mother. She shouldn't be allowed to wander around like that. I remember many years ago, my brother TED went into a public toilet and there was this boy, unable to get his winkle out to have a pee. So not even considering the consequences he helped him perform the task. The boys Mother came is to see if he was alright, just as he had finished weeing. My brother explained the little boys predicament, and the woman thanked him for his help. LUCKY or WHAT. !!!! When my two were young my wife or I always went with them into the toilet.

AnninG, We to love lamb, and try to get a Shoulder quite often, but this one is a half leg, We like you do eat a lot of WHITE MEAT. I do like a nice roast chicken with stuffing, and added onion and parsley. Just thinking about it is making my mouth water. <3 <3 <3

Ros has changed the bed and done a big whites wash. Thats all dried ready for ironing. There is a coloureds wash just finishing, and that will go out on the line. Most of which are my underpants and shorts, which I won't let her iron. T shirts she insists on ironing, even though I rarely wear to go out in.

Vera, I do hope your OH is making good progress after his ordeal, and the Insurance Company doesn't give you too much hassle over your claim. It's good you have your Son in the background, should you need him.

Ros has just bought me in a nice cup of coffee, it tastes so creamy, so I can guess shed cream instead of milk, LOVELY !!!

We were thinking of trying to get to the Canal Festival, but neither of us are good on our legs, for walking, and to take the car, means parking in a field a long way from all the activities. So we will stay at home. Plus the weather doesn't look that good, but hope it holds off for all the stall holders, and the 100s of people who have turned up to support things.

I see Tony has done a load of washing, so he is coping. I did pop in to see how Val was yesterday. She seems quite well, but with the Parkinsons, I don't see her DANCING AROUND anytime soon.

I am sure I have missed someone out on my reply's. Sorry if I have.I haven't eaten again today, so will look forward to my dinner later.

Have a nice afternoon whatever you are doing. xxxx

Afternoon Everyone

Gill I hope your neighbours Gas pipes are all good .He really should have got the Gas people in to reconnect. If something isnt right he might not have a leg to stand on now if he has done it himself.

Vera what a shame your friend had to have that major heart op while in New Zealand.I suppose in one way it was good as they were not just on a few weeks holiday.I take it he is all fit and well again now? Our friends dow nthe road have just come back from New Zealand too. They went for 7 months as Peter loves New Zealand . He did GP locum work for 5 months and Elaine found a volunteer job in an Art Gallery. Elaine said that if it wasnt for having family here they would love to live in NZ.
How is OH's back today? Gentle walk and just pottering I hope and nothing too strenuous.

Ann, that is quite worrying about that little girl. Poor G must have felt quite on edge with her being 'so friendly' . It is so sad these days that us good adults have to be so careful. It sounds like she would have happily gone off with OH if he had said something like shall we go and get an ice cream or to see his little puppy .

What a long drawn out affair with your insurance claim Vera. Are they messing you around? Good to have a Son in the business though should you need a liitle 'help' :-D I hope it is not long before you get your money .

Could it have been Wedding Celebrations last night Ann with the fireworks and music. I hope you got to sleep in the end.
Good night for you Mel .bet you feel more refreshed today. We get rattly doors when the wind blows.rather than close the doors completely I put a sock down between the door jamb and door or even a shoe. That always works.

I had more rather disturbing news from my good friend from school days last night. She is a couple of years younger than me. She has cancer :-(.. It seems secondaries have been found in the lungs and she has had to have a stent put in the bottom of her oesophagus as swallowing has been a problem. She had Breast Cancer about 8 years ago .She can only eat soft foods and is having complan drinks. I rang her as I had been worried about her ,but this was all of a shock to hear.
Tests are still being done but it is not really sounding great. Sue was the friend who was with me in Greece back in the 70s when we were Childrens Nannies. We go back a long way. Why is life so damned rotten for some people???

The wind had died down a lot here at last ,but still quite blowy .At least it is sunny. Chris has dug over the veg patch this morning and said it was like concrete :-S. I think he will be feeling quite achey later.
I'm looking forward to my appointment tomorrow with the Consultant and am hoping he is pleased with my progress and gives me the all clear to drive. It will be an early start as the appointment is at 9.15. We will leave here about 8.15 . So this afternoon it is a hair wash and sort out my hairy legs .Those of you than never have to worry about that problem are so blooming lucky :-D.

Frank Report 11 Aug 2019 15:35

I shouldn't be allowed near a cooker again. While Ros was down the garden, I thought I would treat her. So got a scone mix from the cupboard, and set about doing the mix. All fine, I rolled it out and got the cutter to cut them out. Still all fine. I then put what I thought was a baking parchment on the tray to put them on. MY MISTAKE. It was a plastic chopping sheet. Like the idiot I am, I laid it on the tray and transferred the scones on to it. After 12/15 minutes I though they would be done, I had also washed the tops in beaten egg. Yes they were done CEMENTED TO THE TRAY and Chopping sheet. The whole lot went straight into the black bin.

Ros had a line of coloureds out, so I called down the garden to say "WATCH THE WEATHER" Too late the heavens opened and I went to get the washing in. Which I did and got a good soaking in the bargain. So I am well chuffed as you can imagine. :-P :-P :-P NOT.

The lamb is cooked and resting, I will see about roasting the parsnips and cooking the veg. I am making individual Yorkshires today, as the meat is already cooked.

Poor people who are still at the Festival, IT'S ABSOLUTELY PEEING DOWN NOW. and the sky is as black as your hat. !!!!

John Fairs said that if he ever had to move from the U.K. he would go to New Zealand. In his previous life, he travelled the world. He believes there is no other Country in the World that comes near New Zealand, and there isn't a Country he hasn't been to.

Time I started dinner, so be good and stay dry. !!!

AnnG would your OH fancy coming around here to shampoo my lounge carpet? It is in desperate need :-S I do have a carpet shampooer but is not great and it is moving all the furniture :-| :-| Nightmare !!!!!

Frank, just be thankful you aren't a lady Hen!!!!!!! Made my eyes water too.. That was one big egg there :-0 I bet the Blisworth show was a bit of a washout this afternoon if it rained like it did here. What a downpour we had and with thunder too. There are so many shows etc planned this weekend it is a shame if all the hard work is all wasted.

Maybe you have another delivery of Gin AnnG for your Birthday :-D :-D. Are you doing anything special ? Does the parcel sound liquidy? :-D

As I was talking to my Sister on the phone just now I heard that noise that cats make when they are about to be sick.....Thomas did a right one for me to clear up :-0 Luckily it was on the hall floor which is not carpeted :-) Big fur ball I think.
Got a couple of pics of Jorge ..one a little video clip and the other with him and Jilly.
No more chewing Mandy, and the separation anxiety thing seems to have gone now.

Gillx Report 11 Aug 2019 16:59

I don't know about your eyes watering Mel with the huge egg, what about the poor girl who laid it lol ;-) ;-) ;-) Was it a double yolk?

I hope my birthday card arrives on time AnnG, I posted it yesterday but think I missed the last post and being Sunday (no post) it won't go until tomorrow morning. Hopefully it'll arrive by Tuesday for your special day. I wonder what the heavy parcel is your son sent you.

It's been dry here for most of the day, but there's lots of clouds around so OH decided not to do anymore painting today, he's hoping to finish it off on Tuesday as the forecast is sunny, but then more rain to follow on Wednesday. My foot and arm are feeling much better now so hopefully I'll be able to do the screening once OH has finished the painting and weather is kind to us again, which should be about another weeks time. They should be fully healed by then.

There are lot of birds in our garden and I can hear them all chirping through the open window. Sandra has been laughing at them all hopping and following each other along our fence. I must admit they are funny to watch.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 11 Aug 2019 17:04

Oh Frank, what are you like? Didn't it smell strange? I would have thought the sheet would melt. What a shame though when you were being kind to Ros. Hope dinner makes up for it.

Jane, I have never shampooed the carpet, it is one of the things OH likes to ;play' with. I don't think he moves furniture, just does the quite large expanse in the lounge and conservatory and the smaller patch in the hall and the part of the dining room that gets walked on as it is a second route from the kitchen to the lounge (Lounge diner is an L shape with the dining room the short leg of the L.
Maybe that mouse didn't agree with Thomas. Ugh used to hate clearing that up.

the box is huge that son has sent, he did email and say two parcels were due delivering I think it is all in one. It took two of us to lift it and OH not only signed for it but had to produce ID as well so goodness knows. I suppose it could be alcohol although we didn't have to produce ID for the last lot. We will go to Evesham for the day I think as there is a craft shop there that I like. I usually get money from my sister and our daughter and also OH gives me money to spend as I like to have craft stuff, but I need to choose it myself.

Gillx Report 11 Aug 2019 17:17

I didn't see the last page of posts so have missed what everyone said.

The light was on around the back and we could hear him by his gas meter, then his heating went on. His car is around the front Mel, so they must of already brought their suitcases in.

Sorry to hear about your friend Jane, I can imagine the shock you felt when you heard. That was lucky with Thomas's furball being on a hard surface and not on the carpet. Pleased to hear Jorge is settling in nicely now. All seems okay with next doors gas, but he was silly connecting it himself. He's been out all day today, so it's been nice and quiet with just the birds singing in the background.

Oh dear Frank, fancy using the plastic chopping sheet and then getting soaked outside, it's not your day today is it? Maybe it would be better if you sat down and read a book, it might be safer in the long run ;-) ;-)

It's a good job OH decided not to do the painting by the sounds of the weather by you and Jane as we normally get the same weather a few hours later. I don't think OH would be to chuffed if the paint got washed off again.

Going to get a cuppa then watch Beechgrove it's on after the repeat of Gardeners World and is very similar, so that's my treat to myself on a Sunday. I found a couple of 60 minute makeovers before which Sandra liked. The TV isn't very good at the weekend apart from Poldark, which I can't seem to get into this time around, for some reason. I have a few things recorded on another system, including films, so I might watch them with Sandra and OH after my gardening programmes.

So sorry to hear about your friend Jane. I don't think that there is a family in the land that hasn't been affected by Cancer, and although there have been amazing advances over the years it's still something we all dread. :-(
Goodness Frank!!! No comment is all I can think of to say!!
We've just come in from the garden to a welcome cuppa! OH has rotovated a strip on the veg patch so that he can transplant the leeks sometime this week!! It's a bit of a pain but they are so delicious which makes it all worth while! I've been deadheading roses, what a job!!
Tea's up!

It sounds like you've been very busy today Pippyn. I remember when we got rid of our garage and bought a smaller shed OH put a lot of his things, including the lawn mower in our greenhouse. I had to sort the shed out to make room for everything he had put in the greenhouse as I had no where to put my plants. He can be silly sometimes, but I still love him. :-) We don't have anything in our greenhouse now, the tomatoes are finished and the two bluebell climbers I had in there are now in the border. It's come in handy having it empty as I've put two chairs in there which we can sit on if the weather is a bit cold when working outside, it's like a little conservatory and out of the wind.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 11 Aug 2019 17:55

Perhaps when AnninG's OH has finished your lounge carpet he could come and do ours Jane. It desperately needs it. It's looking very grubby in front of the seats where our feet go. Because we have underfloor heating downstairs we only have a cheapish carpet in our lounge so I keep suggesting we get a new one but all I get are mutterings about having to move all the heavy furniture.

Frank, what are you like? Fancy using plastic instead of baking parchment. At least you were trying to make a nice treat for Ros so your heart's in the right place.

It's good that you have some birds around Gill. I know Sandra gets pleasure from watching them. I haven't seen or heard many birds about here for a couple of days. They are probably all staying out of the wind and the rain, though today has been much nicer. A bit windy still but no rain so far. I changed the bedding and got that all washed and it dried quite quickly.

I hope you enjoyed THE egg Mel. What a whopper. You'd only need one of those to make an omelette.

I was so sorry to hear about your friend Jane. None of us know what's round the corner but life often seems to deal a rotten hand to the best people. I feel like that about my brother. I wish her all the luck in the world.

Block your ears now Frank, I am going to have a moan about men. Why do they have to be so obstinate and always think they know best? I popped down the road earlier today to put a birthday card through someone's door. As I came back I could see the garage light on, so looked in and saw a box of tools out on the floor. What the heck is he up to now I thought. Then I found him; on his hands and knees digging up and lifting some brick sized pavers from outside the garage. Some months ago he had to replace a couple of these pavers that were cracked and could no longer get the same colour - a sort of dark, mottled grey - so he got a couple of black ones. They did stick out like a sore thumb so he decided that when he had time he would swop them for a couple of the old ones that were more hidden round the side. The black ones wouldn't be so noticeable there and the old ones would blend in better at the front. This job has been waiting a few months so why did it have to be done now? All he could say is "I want to get it done". I am afraid I said a few words. He is just beginning to make a good recovery and we are now expecting to go on our planned trip to Jersey in 5-6 weeks time. I have said that if he crooks himself up again I shall book him in for respite at a care home and go to Jersey without him. We'll be limited in what we can do anyway but I am really looking forward to a few days break with our friends and will be furious with him if he goes silly and spoils his recovery so we can't go.

OK, moan over.

How much longer do you have to go on your month's trial Pippyn? You mentioned you are going away in September but I hope you decide to take out a subscription to GR.

We had our dinner about 2.30. Turkey breast with cranberry sauce (don't tell OH but it had a good slurp of his best port in it), roast potatoes and plenty of veg followed by rhubarb and custard. I still feel full so I think I might go out for a short while and walk some of it off.

Annx

Annx Report 11 Aug 2019 18:01

Afternoon All,

Sunny here now, but we had a cloudburst at Lutterworth when we went for lunch.

Jane how sad to get that news about your old friend. She's obviously been through a tough time up to now but it doesn't sound good for her does it. I bet she was so pleased to hear from you for a chat.

Crikey Mel, I bet there was an 'OUCH' when that egg was laid. I wonder which chicken it was? Was it a double yolk? I hope the Swallows are finding enough to feed their brood as it must be hard when it's so windy. The poor things must get exhausted battling against it. It's nice you still see Robby and the Wren. They have such a loud song for such a small bird. I slept well last night but woke up hot and had to go back to just a sheet on top of me.

Luckily the party didn't last very long. I heard rain on the window after a while so that may have been why. I'm not sure that would work on our doors Mel as we have tried old towels before, which did work sometimes. If I get really fed up I use a shoe like Jane or a heavy book! lol :-) The worst thing when in the lounge is the letterbox rattling. A bit broke off it a while a go and it goes flap, flap flap in the wind and you think someone is at the door! I think I might try some stick on foam strip I have on that.

AnnG I have never been one for eating a lot of red or processed meats and over the years OH has also cut down somewhat. Lamb is my exception though and if that is on a menu I will have it and so will OH. Also the occasional lamb or pork chop at home. Otherwise I have turkey, chicken or fish. OH loves fish like Frank and will try all kinds, but neither of us fancy shellfish. I still have an old style phone because I can't face the hassle of changing to a new one, so I would be put off a Kindle, although they would be good when you go on holiday. OH prefers a book to hold so he hasn't got one either. We are becoming dinosaurs! lol That's just what my OH does when he comes to anything like a village show with me.........heads for the tea and cake! lol.

We have just had a thunderstorm that cut off the satellite signal and the rain was so heavy it was like a stream down the road and running down the drives opposite. It has left puddles in the gravel at the back. I hope it hasn't rained like it at the canal festival Frank or they will get soaked. I always think of you in the postman's uniform you wore a few years ago when the festival is on. I remember you couldn't get into the trousers then, but if you are lighter now you might!!

I hope the neighbour hasn't touched the gas Gill if the gas people were coming back to switch it on. Could they have already been and checked it do you think? Your and your neighbours bungalows must be looking nice with the fresh paintwork now. I hope the forecast is right so your OH will be able to finish the painting on Tuesday.

(sorry Frank,I know you are one LOL ) We often have words when I think Chris has done enough but it always falls on deaf ears.Maybe your threat of going to Jersey on your own will knock some sense into him :-) He really doesn't want to jeopardise his recovery now. He is doing so well .I can't imagine being on his hands and knees shifting pavers will do him much good More Heat Patches?

My month's "trial!" ends on the 30th August Vera. We're going away for a couple of weeks in Sept, so I shall take out a further subscription when we come home!
I agree about Poldark Gill! We used to love it, but like you I'm finding this series a bit tedious! Apparently the story isn't being taken from the books anymore and I think that's why it's not as good as it was - Bit too political for me as well!!!
My phone is of an older type too Annx!!! OH has a more modern one and I do have a kindle which I do like for buying or borrowing books. It does mean that books are kept under control so to speak, but like you we both like a proper book too, so we sort of mix and match!!!
We had lunch about 2.45 today, so an easy supper this evening - hooray!!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 11 Aug 2019 22:15

I'm pleased others have said they are not into this new Poldark. I read the books years ago in the late 60's 70's but don't remember there being anything about this Ned in them.

I went down just as it was getting dark to put the bantams food away for the night and popped the bowl in my shed turned around to close the top of the door and there tanding dead still looking at me was a hog. I carried on closing the door and then then looked to see where it had gone and it was heading to the base of the big ash tree where the grass is longer. I then went and filled up the foodbowl but I hav'nt seen it since.

Yes the EGG was a double yolker and it filled my little frying pan so I had to get a spoon out to baste the yolks no room for the spatula and I had to cut it in half to get it out of the pan onto my plate. I have no idea which hen layed it as I have only been getting two eggs a day fro m the new girls so it could have been one of those or just an old one decided it was time she laid an egg. Whichever one it was it was delishious.

There are so many posts I am not going to remark on them all but what I will say is that oh says he is always right cos he is a man and he stands up for a wee and we ladies have to sit down. Logic or not? I told him I could stnd up if I wanted to.

Annx

Annx Report 11 Aug 2019 23:27

Oh Vera fancy him finding a job like that to do when his back is still not fully better. They get these ideas in their heads and common sense leaves their bodies doesn't it. Mind you it's getting mine to get going on 'home jobs'. He talks about what he is going to do, will write a list, but then it can be weeks before he makes a start. Then instead of getting on with whatever himself, I seem to be needed to help and stopped or held up from what I'm doing.

Gill I sometimes watch Beechgrove on Sunday mornings before Ready Steady Cook if I'm still not up.. Its the Scottish one isn't it. I love it in the greenhouse in the Spring when the sun has warmed it up and it is cold outside. It's the best place in the garden then. I just can't get into Poldark this time either. I keep finding my mind drifting and lose the plot. lol

After Frank's disastrous day, I hope the meal turned out alright and that the lamb was delicious. It's really made me want some now. :-)

I've nearly finished the bracelet tonight that I restarted. I should get the clasp fitted tomorrow and will send a pic if I do. It might be one of my entries.

Gillx

Gillx Report 12 Aug 2019 09:47

Morning all

A little brighter today, we still have clouds but the sun is trying it's best to break through them, it's not forecast for rain today and tomorrow. OH has gone to see his friend for the day, but will finish the painting tomorrow if it's dry enough.

Yes, it's the Scottish gardening programme Ann, very similar to Gardeners World. You can tell the difference in temperature between Scotland and the South of the UK the flowers and plants don't look as good up in Scotland. Still it's a nice programme to watch. It sounds like you're doing well on your bracelet, I'm looking forward to seeing a picture when it's finished. The gas people would of needed access inside the neighbour's bungalow to check the gas and as far as I know no one had a key for the front or back doors, the only key one neighbour had was for the lock on the gate. The gas meter is outside so they could turn the gas off, but everything needed checking inside once the gas was reconnected. Everything seems okay, so he was very lucky, although it was a silly thing to do. I said they were strange people and it looks like I was right.

I never read the Poldark books so have nothing to compare it with, but like you said Pippyn it's gone to political now and like Ann, my mind drifts off a bit, so I loose track of what's going on. I had to smile when you said your phone is an older type, I've still got the very old Nokia, it's the only phone I've ever had and it has a green screen, now that's old lol :-D :-D It's lasted longer than any of the modern ones, everyone I know always seems to be changing their phones, the only problem I have with mine is the battery, it doesn't last very long, so I have to keep charging it up, but apart from that it's still going strong and it must be around 20 years old now.

So you've seen a hog Mel, that was nice, we haven't seen one for a while, but then that could be down to the bad weather, which surprises me as I thought they liked slugs which seems to come out more if the weather is wet. I'm hoping we see the hog tonight, now the weather has calmed down.

I couldn't believe what I was reading Vera when you told us about your OH and the heavy work he was doing, it wasn't that long ago he couldn't even stand up. I hope he listened to you and left the job until he's fully recovered. I can see why you were upset with him when the last holiday didn't go to plan, the last thing you want is this one going the same way. I hope he listened to you and stopped doing the job, surely it can wait until he's recovered properly. You could always do what Jane said and tie him down lol.

I'm itching to get on with the screening but my arm is still a bit sore and it involves lots of screws again, so I'm being sensible and waiting another week, then I'll see if I'm fit enough to do it, otherwise it'll wait a bit longer. The job's not going anywhere, so it's not worth hurting myself again. Besides I'm doing well on OH's tree, so I don't mind leaving the job a little longer.

The workmen are across the road making a start on the new gas pipes, so it's very noisy again. The neighbour two doors down from us on our side is in a dispute with the gas people and the water board. Apparently when they dug the hole outside his drive ready to replace the gas pipe, somehow they managed to break his drain pipe so now he waiting for it to be fixed and still has the hole, so he can't park his car down his drive. The gas people are saying the water board should fix it and the water board are saying it's the gas people who should do it. The neighbour isn't sure what's happening, or how long it's all going to take to fix. I do feel sorry for him and hope it's sorted soon.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 12 Aug 2019 10:04

Good morning all, sunny here but doesn't feel very warm outside. I have to wait in as My new kindle should be delivered today so I have cleaned the second half od the kitchen (still not done the oven!) and done a wash load. (ugh tissues, it is so annoying when one gets in with the washing. Normally the bigger tissues don't shred but somehow a small tissue out of the box on the dressing table got in with this load and shredded!)

Gill have you not got an electric screw driver? It sounds as though that is what you need for that job. Don't attempt it until your hand has recovered.

Surely if the gas board broke the pipe it is their responsibility? I wonder if it would be worth him getting onto his parish council for help sorting it.

Gillx

Gillx Report 12 Aug 2019 10:27

No I don't have an electric screwdriver AnnG and we don't do big jobs like this very often so it's not worth the expense of buying one. There's only six panels to put up so it won't take me long to do once my arm is better. The only people who can see the framework is us so it's not bothering anyone. My foot is much better after all the rest and is nearly healed now, so I'm just waiting for my arm to feel better then I can get on with it, if it's not raining by then.

I think the water board are going to fix the pipe for the neighbour but that hasn't been confirmed yet. I thought the same thing as you and it would be the gas board fixing it since it was there fault, but for some reason they're saying it's not up to them. I don't know the full story but the neighbour isn't very happy and has been told they will have to have some of their drive dug up for the new pipe to be put down.

It sounds like you're really busy with your cleaning, although finding the tissue wouldn't of been nice, it takes ages to pick it all out of the clothes to. Our place could do with a good going through but with my sore foot and arm I can't do it. Sandra's just offered to do the hoovering before she has a bath, so is getting the hoover all set up now.
