Good morning all. OH gone to golf so up early this morning. dry so far and quite bright. Not sure what I will be doing although I already have a wash load in.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 7 Aug 2019 08:53

Good morning

Dry and bright here as well at the moment. Daughter and granddaughter are both coming later on so I am going to shower and then go shopping to find something nice for a meal.

We got an estimate for repairs to our car bumper from a fairly local body shop and thought it was a reasonable price so OH took a photo of it and texted it to the chap who hit me. If he had wanted more quotes we would have taken it to the Volvo garage and they would probably have quoted 3 times the price, but luckily the chap agreed it straight away. I don’t think the repair shop can do it till September as they are so busy but at least we can get it booked in to be done.

Going to shower now. If I don’t get back later I hope you all have a pleasant day.

Gillx Report 7 Aug 2019 09:53

Morning Vera, morning all

Cloudy here at the moment with a bit of sun.

Pleased to see you've booked your car in for the repair on the bumper Vera, September isn't to long to wait.

Good news for Ros Frank, hope the treatment carries on working and she doesn't have anymore problems with her waterworks. I don't know what I've done to my foot it just seems to have started hurting. It might be climbing up and down the ladders when I was building the framework for the screening. I've been resting it for the last few days and although it's still painful it's not as bad as it has been, so hopefully it'll be okay soon. I hope so as I want to get the screening up before next door return off their holidays and I don't know how long they are away for, so I'm hoping to have it done this week.

What an unpleasant thing to see with the dead hog Mel, that must of been a shock for you. It sounds like you need to keep to your usual route around the shop so you don't miss anything next time. That was nice of girl to go and pick up the iceberg lettuce for you when you realised you hadn't got one. I'm the same as you and have lots of toms so haven't had to buy any for a while. I picked the last of them last week and some still need ripening, so they're on my kitchen window sill.

Hope you had a nice time with James yesterday Jane and everything is working out for him now.

The fella who is helping me with OH family tree has found some information on a group of children I had. I couldn't find marriages and deaths for them. Mind you there is one he can't find any further information on after the 1871 census, so that still remains a mystery.

OH got his car back last night, he's gone to visit his friend for the day, so I'll be able to take another look at his tree while Sandra is still asleep and it's quiet.

What is everyone else up to today?

Morning all,

Raining here at present and it has been on and off all ight. It was really heavy and lashing on the window when I went to bed last night.

Slept like a log last night but I usually do after a day out shopping. I must do miles walking around the store trying to find things as I am still not sure where they have moved things too. It seems so disjointed now.

How are you all feeling this morning? Well and rested I hope.

Frank

Frank Report 7 Aug 2019 11:34

Good morning all,

Like you Mel, I slept like a baby again. Didn't to start with, but after coming out to the lounge and having a SNACK I went back, and dropped off straight away. Ros had to wake me at 9.30 this morning as SIMON was on the phone. He said "good morning sleepy head" lol lol. They are both well and Sally was at work. 6.00 am to 2.00 pm today and 6.00 pm till 6.00 am tomorrow. Poor girl. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Sorry to hear about your HOG Mel, but I expect this is what happens with Nature and Road Kill. Still not nice to find, and the smell would certainly have put me off picking it up. Eos is always complaining about the supermarkets, moving all the things around. The last time Tesco did it, they handed out little maps of the STORE LAYOUT.

We had a right old down pour last night, and this morning is very windy its a lot of cloud around. So not the sort of day, you want to do anything. So I will be content in sitting in my chair, reading.

Never thought of it GARLIC AND BEANS. !!! but no after effects, I am pleased to say. It just made a nice change from all my roasts and casseroles.

I have been looking at a nice ROSE GOLD BRACELET on Ebay. I sent a question to the seller to ask how long it was. She never replied and this morning the sale has ENDED. So she couldn't have wanted to sell it that much :-P :-P :-P Her loss, I will have another look around later. It's something Ros would like for her birthday, to go with all the rest. How she lifts her wrists, I don't know. lol lol

Still no sign of the new shower. But it worked again this morning. Harvey had his tooth out yesterday afternoon and is feeling more comfortable, and was just going to bed when we rang at 7.30 pm. So a good nights sleep was the order of the day. !!! I hope he feels a lot better today. Lewis is coming back from France on Friday. Ros has offered to go to collect him, to save Harvey having to leave work to do it himself. He will let her know. I would have thought a TAXI from the airport to Toddington, would be that expensive, but you know what Grandma's are like, !!!!

Pleased the bump has been sorted and the chap didn't want three estimates. Also that you have your car back Gill. Thinking of Cars, how did James get on with his, that he dropped off at the garage Jane, All fixed and mobile again I hope.

I am also still waiting for RINGO to say if he is coming do my steps. IF NOT I will ask at the pub as you suggested. It's not that I expect him to do it for nothing. They just don't seem to want little jobs like that. !!!

Ros has put a bit of washing on the airer on the patio, so in this breeze it will soon be dry enough for ironing.

Have a pleasant day, and don't overdo things. xxxx

O I had'nt seen your post Gill or Vera.

Vera its good the man said he would pay for the bump to be repaired. Happy shopping for your meal for your grandaughter and daughter it will be nice to see them both and have a good chat. Is oh doing better with his little walks?

Gill I picked up thehog with oh's long handled shovel and took it over the bonfire and placed it on the top!! He should have a good funeral pyre there atop a lot of dead wood.

Does anyone watch 800 words in the afternoon on BBC 1? I used to watch it in the evenings but oh has started to watch it at lunch time so I have had to watch it then. We are on series 3 now but there have been some funny moments.

Afternoon all,

Really breezy here today with lots of black clouds about but i can see some lovely blue sky too so we have had some sun shine this morning .

Have a lovely day with your family Vera ,are you cooking some thing nice ?
That's good you have the car sorted and the chap is paying up ,perhaps he's paying and not putting it through his insurance .

Poor old hog some thing got to him ,Mel why did you want the skull ?

It does sound like your foot doesn't like the ladder work Gill ,i know my knee's are not good if i climb up and down on the steps when i do my windows .
You'll have to rest up a bit longer and give it a chance to get better .

Shame you missed out on the bracelet Frank but i'm sure you'll find another if you keep looking .
That's good Ros's treatment is helping to keep the infection away.

We went shopping this morning so we're hoping it will stay dry so we can do a job or two in the garden ,we're also waiting for some new pipe for the pool to be delivered ,it should be here today .

Ann i'm making the little unicorn bag that was in the WW a few weeks ago :-D
Posted your parcel today ,i did second class so it will be a day or two before you get it .

Oh some things blown about in the garden i now heard a noise and Max is barking so i'd better go see what it is .

Frank Report 7 Aug 2019 15:14

Afternoon ll

This morning I picked a load of Rhubarb, that I have trimmed and ready for stewing. Ros will do that, as she likes to all quite a bit of sugar. I also picked up a load of windfalls from the Cookers tree. Which I will stew down for either Apple sauce or for a apple crumble. Plus I dug those self set potato's. There is a good few of those, so will see how they scrape, and if any good.

Still looking a Victorian Rose gold bracelets, What a price some of them are. Way beyond my price range. But I have made an offer on one, so will wait and see.

Ros was down the garden when she called out it was raining, I grabbed the washing off the airer and it stopped at that precise moment. It Blooming well would, but it was dry anyway.

Those Cabbage white Butterfly's have eaten all the leaves on the Brussel plants, so I have pulled them up, and green binned them.

It's as black as your hat out there, and the wind is really getting up. Thank goodness are both indoors.

Hope you lunch went well Vera, does your daughter live close by ?? It's still nice to see the children, if only for a short time. We don't see much of ours, with Conrad mainly in Spain, Harvey down in Bedfordshire, working like there's no tomorrow, and Simon in Daventry. He works at Fords, in the parts dept. Been there over 30 years. He works from Mid-day until 10.00 pm 5 days a week. At weekends like most, he has his garden to do and spend a bit of time with Sally. He is going out, in a weeks or so, for two weeks on his narrow boat. He's not sure in what direction he will be going, That is always the problem with Narrow boats, you can only go so far, before turning round and coming home. lol lol

Ready meals from Morrison's tonight, so no cooking for me. It makes so much difference, not having to think of what to have every day. When I ask Ros what she fancies, it's always the same reply. "I DON'T MIND" Whatever you want to cook.

I think Ros. is nodding on the Sofa, which she try's to do most afternoons, I daren't do it, as I would never sleep at night.

I was thinking the same thing as you Mandy. What would you do with a hedgehogs skull. ?? Are the children all packed up school now, ours did last week I think, as we don't hear them playing at lunchtimes.

Enjoy what's left of the afternoon. and hope everyone is well. xxxx

Annx Report 7 Aug 2019 15:43

Afternoon All,

Sunny and a bit breezy here. We decided to do a big shop at Sainsbury's and call in their cafe to eat for a change. OH had the fishcakes and I had fresh salmon, both with plenty of salad and a few new potatoes. I like that they show the calories in their meals. We had a handful of coupons to use with us and saved over £17 which was good. :-)

That's good you have got your car booked in Vera without any problems. When OH had the young woman reverse into him she suggested they pay half each. OH wasn't having that as her car was covered in dents and scratches already and was just scuffed a bit from our car as was ours, so he told her in that case they'd be best to each pay for their own cars! He didn't want to be paying for the other damage hers had. I hope your hubby is still progressing well and looking forward to being able to drive again! I hope you have some inspiration for your meal with your family.

Mel that was a grisly find! Yuk, at least you were able to cremate him/her. Yes I wondered what you were going to do with the skull? It is annoying when they move things around in shops, as if it isn't far enough to walk around as it is with how they put the the most needed things furthest away so you buy everything else in between THEY HOPE!

That's good you have your car back now Gill. I see you are still making good progress with your OH's tree. :-) I expect you are getting the wire for the fence today and will be starting on that next so Sandra will be happy.

AnnG what time does your OH set off for golf! Is it very early? Do you play or have you ever played? It is something I have never got into apart from the occasional pitch and put. Baked beans have absolutely no effect on me!! lol. I would eat a whole big tin on my own in the past. I can't say the same for OH though!

I managed to get some more of the nice alpines that form a nice compact bush of pink flowers this time of the year when we went out yesterday. I have had one in the front garden for years and now I am replacing the dead shrubs I shall put some in the beds at the back as they are nice and compact. The name escapes me just now but begins with 'L' I think and might be a Linaria, they are like tiny snapdragon flowers.

The new cafe and cycle hire place they have just built down the road and is opposite the retail park, flooded with all the recent rain. They are building Everards new head office there as well and it is a flood plain for the river so it doesn't seem to be a good idea. The whole area of fields behind the retail park is like a lake at times. :-S

Frank, that's good that Ros's bladder treatment seems to be working ok and will stop all the infections she was getting. How kind of her to take Val some nice flowers too. Fancy the shower behaving now it's days are numbered. Still, now Harvey's tooth and pain have gone he will hopefully be able to swap it before it plays up again! It's a shame you didn't get the bracelet for Ros. People seem to wear several at once nowadays, so I expect Ros likes her bling too! <3 <3

Thank you so much Mandy! :-D I shall look out for it in the post. I got some picture frames this morning for my next idea and it will be good to incorporate some of it. I just hope my idea will work out ok! :-) Yes I saw the bag in WW, but had forgotten that you crochet as well as knit. Will it be for one of the girls? I hope you get your jobs done and that the pipe you want arrives. :-)

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Aug 2019 16:18

Annx beans don't have any effect on my OH either, just me!!

OH usually leaves for golf just after 7am but this morning was almost an hour later as it was a medal. He was quite pleased with his game but didn't win. He doesn't really expect to these days so just plays to enjoy the game.

When i retired I had a fairly cheap full ladies set of clubs. I have always been useless at any sport but decided to give it a go. And I was still useless. I played with OH and his comment was that by the time we got to where my ball had gone when I hit it off the Tee he had forgotten where his had gone. I really didn't enjoy it and it hurt my back as there is quite a lot of effort in the swing. I did quite enjoy putting, and loved the walk round the course. So for me it really was 'a good walk spoiled' so I admitted defeat and gave up and spent more time on my card making and scrap booking.

Frank

Frank Report 7 Aug 2019 17:17

AnninG, I loved a game of golf. When I had my own business many years ago and drove over 60,000 miles a year. My golf clubs were always in the boot. I would find a golf course whenever I could in different parts of the Country, nd try to get in 9 holes, yto give me a break from business. It was marvellous how relaxing it was, even though I played on my own.

I have found a bracelet that Ros likes, and had a deal with the owner, Saving myself £25.00 on the asking price. Her birthday is not until 19th Sept, But as that is want she wants, I can put it in my bedside draws until then. I expect I will find something else to go with it, plus flowers, which I always get. lol lol

Anne, We use to eat at Sainsbury's but had a couple of iffy meals, so gave it up. We have one of those Bike parks here in Northampton, I think it's called after BORIS. who had one in London named after him when he was the Mayor. I think it gets a good support from what I hear.

I saw on the local news last night, that Cambridge have something like 300 bikes stolen every month, from these Cycle parks. Many owners admitted they didn't lock and secure their BIKES. So no sympathy from me. !!!!

The wind seems to have dropped off now, but the clouds are building up. so I expect we will get more rain tonight.

All the rhubarb and Apples are stewed down now. Ros will have Rhubarb and Custard tonight, and get some Blackberries tomorrow, and make a crumble with them and the apples. I might eat a bit of that. :-0 :-0 :-0 as I am not very sweet toothed.

Ros has made herself some Coleslaw, to go with her ready meal, where as I will have mine as it comes. I will go a heat the oven soon, so we can eat around 6.00 pm.

Annx Report 7 Aug 2019 20:38

That was a good way to unwind on the golf course Frank. I can imagine your cares slipping away in the fresh air. I have some more rhubarb to cook. I have had it cooked with ginger and orange juice too. I have tried and use the stevia sweetener now as it's better for my blood sugar. I like mine cooked down to a puree and freeze some like that as well to use later. I like it with custard. :-) How lucky to find another bracelet for Ros that she likes. What a shame about your brussels, but the little beggars always seem to find a way in don't they. Any iffy meal would put me off too and there are places I wouldn't go again! :-(

We have started looking at a replacement for OH's car this afternoon as we fancied popping out! He doesn't need one for a while yet, probably next year, but it's good to get some idea of what you do and don't like in good time. I was disappointed they don't do brochures anymore as looking online usually means they want your email address to be a nuisance afterwards! I had to smile as the salesperson came up to me chatting while OH wandered off to look in some car boots. She asked me what my car was and I told her it was a Peugeot RCZ. Then it was 'how old is it, was I pleased with it' etc and I could see where it was leading. Eventually she asked if I had decided it was time to change it and you should have seen her face when I said I was keeping it and it was OH who was changing his. That will teach her to jump to conclusions. :-) lol. It gave OH chance to look around uninterrupted.

Must go, OH wants to watch the GP prog with me now!

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 7 Aug 2019 21:40

Evening all

I am sure James is glad of your support at the moment Jane. It is worrying and upsetting when we see our children with problems but he will find employment he likes before too long.

Frank, I love rhubarb and when I had a big veg garden I used to grow an early and a later variety so I could have it over a long period. Rhubarb and ginger jam is nice and I made rhubarb ice cream a couple of times which was lovely.

Ann, I would have been really annoyed if the man who reversed into me had suggested we pay half as I was stationary and in the right position on the road at the time. I think it was just a question of whether he would pay or whether we would put it through the insurance. I would quite like to change our car but OH’s idea is that this one “will see us out”. We don’t need such a big car these days but it’s 11 years old and a diesel so we wouldn’t get much for it if we did try to change it.

AnninG, you probably did better than I would have done at golf. My eyes, hands and brain don’t seem to co-ordinate and I was never much good at any sport. I did always walk miles and get my exercise that way but I don’t seem to do much walking either these days. I keep saying I must get more exercise but I don’t do anything about it.

Mel, I have only one thing to say about your hedgehog. Urgh! I also wondered what you planned to do with the skull.

I hope your foot is feeling better now Gill. You will have to rest it as much as you can to give it a chance to recover.

We had a lovely time with daughter and granddaughter. Daughter is about a 45 minute drive away but with work and all her other commitments we don’t see a great deal of her, though we phone and text a lot. Granddaughter is a good hour’s drive in the other direction and, again, we don’t see as much of her as we would like as she has uni and a part time job. They both arrived at the same time and didn’t leave till about 8 pm so we had lots of time to chat and there was a lot of laughter. Daughter brought me onions and spring onions, beetroot and rhubarb from her garden. She hadn’t seen her Dad since the end of June and couldn’t believe how much he has improved. He has made big strides in the last couple of days. He can stand for longer now though still can’t walk far but everything is moving in the right direction.

I think I am going to have a look at today’s paper, then maybe go to bed with my book or catch up on one or two programmes on the iPlayer. I hope you all sleep well tonight.

Good morning, sleepy heads. lol lol

Nice bright morning here, so far. The forecast isn't bad for today. Tomorrow is suppose to be very wet, and Saturday high winds. Not the best forecast for the "CANAL FESTIVAL"

We normally have tens of thousands visitors over the weekend. The traders on the canal boats seems have a very busy time. They come from all over the Country to be here. They sell all sorts from Books, Cheese, home made sweets, too many things to mention. We will try to get along the canal and see what's going on, and get around the Garden at Blisworth House, that always have loads of stalls, even sheep sheering demonstrations.

HARVEY WAS FEELING MUCH BETTER LAST NIGHT. HE HAD THREE STITCHES (SORRY) when they took out his tooth. Soon after putting the phone down to him, Lewis was on the phone. He should arrive at Luton around 11.30 tomorrow morning, so Ros ill be there to meet him. I might go along for the ride.

Jane I can well understand how you must be feeling over James. I know when Conrad and Jan's business in Italy went T@@S UP, when the Mafia backed builders didn't pay them, we were worried sick, how they would manage. and helped out where we could. That's what PARENTS do. lol lol.

Annx after a life time in CAR SALES, I learnt not to make assumptions who was changing who's car. I would introduce myself and "LEAVE THEM TO IT" telling them I am here to help, when they wanted it. It worked for me. and I regarded myself as an excellent Sales person. My M.D often got calls from satisfied Customers, of how well they were treated and handled.

Ros has offered to take me for a haircut this morning. I DO NEED ONE, so should accept her offer, as next week she is busy with Hospital, Drs, Nails and Hair. So it will be the week after. By that time I will be able to SIT ON IT. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) :-D :-D :-D :-

I hope everyone is well, and any ailments are improving. Going to try the shower now. So hope it's working. Harvey thinks the new one should be with him today. !!! Take care all. xxxx

After I went back to bed oh got up soon after and I grabbed his pillow as it was mice and cold and I must have dropped off.

So I am like a zombie this mroning.................. got up at 11. 25am.

Afternoon all

Another sunny day but not as warm as it has been lately. OH is going to start painting the outside of the bungalow, he bought the paint this morning. It got really mucky with all the work next door so really needs doing. He's decided to paint it white instead of cream this time with next door's being an off white, hopefully ours won't look so mucky against it then. He's just going to the neighbour next door but one to see if he can borrow his tall ladders as ours aren't quite tall enough. The neighbour next door is still away so now we're thinking they maybe in Australia visiting their daughter, if that's the case then they'll probably be away for a few weeks, so we can get on with the outside jobs without them being noisy. They seem a bit of an odd couple, but we can't quite put our finger on why. They barely talk to us and when we do talk they walk off in mid sentence without even saying goodbye.....very strange.

OH nipped to B&Q this morning, so I now have the compost I need to re-pot my plants and the wire to put the screening up. I've just checked the weather and after today it's going to rain for a whole week, so neither of the jobs will be done for a while, but at least I have the items ready for the job. My foot is feeling a little better, but now I've got a pulled muscle in my right arm pit. All I did was push myself up on my elbow and it ended up really sore, so now I have to rest that. I think I'm starting to feel my age now. I think it might of been all the screws I put in the other day (around 400) putting up the framework and plastic for the screening, plus putting the flag stones back down after the gas pipe was put in. Either way I'm feeling very sore at the moment, so I won't be doing anything until I feel better. I'm getting there with OH's tree though, so I'm not as bored as I thought I'd be.

Sandra's asking me for help with something in her room, so I'll have to go. I think she's trying to find something in her wardrobe.
