Frank Report 10 May 2019 14:18

Afternoon all,

Not feeling great at the moment. Nasty headache and pains down my right arm and leg. Perhaps the walk to and from the Dr. disturbed something.

Have a nice break AnnG. Did you say you are going to Devon or North Wales. Whatever it is, I hope the weather is kind to you. Nothing worse than being away from home in the RAIN. You tend not to want to venture out, and sitting indoors gets a bit boring.

Very still day here, the sun when it shows is nice and warm. I might go and sit on the patio for a while, Unfortunately I can't read my TABLET in the sunshine, so will just have to sit and relax.

I hope everyone one, who has the better weather is enjoying it. For anyone with rain, Keep your chins up. !!!!

Frank, maybe it is after effects of the injection yesterday that are making you feel rough.

Just reading a bit more of your story. In the 80s I worked for 8 years at RAF Henlow in Bedfordshire. At the beginning of this time, before all the cuts, we used to have big annual parades. I used to love it when the Queen's Colour Squadron were part of the parade. I worked as an administrative assistant at that time in one of the engineering squadrons and many of our lads were in the colour squadron. Boy they were smart..

Good morning FOLKS, and it's nice to see you JANE. xxxx

Was in bed by 8.15 lat night, just couldn't stand those Bl@@dy SOAPS and longer. I read till 10.00 and was asleep soon after, woke at 4.00 am went to the loo, and dozed until I got up at 6.30. I was a lovely morning them, but now clouding over.

We have (well I have) BIGGLES for the day. He had his breakfast, and is now lying on the rug asleep. He is never any trouble and loves coming here.

AnnG, when in the RAF 1958/60. I was picked together with a lot more. to train with the RAF Regiment, and Colour Squadron for a visit from a foreign diplomate, that the Queen was Welcoming. We had to line the streets on her journey. I was in Horse Guards Parade, opposite a mounted Guardsman. What a great experience, never to be forgotten. We trained at an RAF place just outside London, the name of which evades at this moment.

It is my intention to put the BIG POTS on the tree stumps in the front garden this morning. I have some long screws to secure the pots to the stump, so they will be safe. !!!

Yesterday the injection took it's effect. I had a lump on my left cheek which was and still is, very tender to touch. The nurse did say, as she has many times before, that the injection is very thick, and she has to use a LARGE NEEDLE. THANKS. lol lol :-( :-(

Ros is off to meet Martine this morning. She will call at Tesco's to get the veg, as Morrison's don't have a very nice selection, and we do like fresh VEG.

Mandy I will pm you later for another favour. <3 <3 <3

Have a good day everyone, and a safe journey to AnnG.xxxx

Morning all,

Bright and sunny here today and I hope it stays that way as I could do sometthing in the garden after cleaning the girls out. Shop for thte paper and Em's for an egg delivery as I have a dozen for her this week and 7 bantams eggs. They have to earn their keep too but they don't lay for very long now as they are ancient.

I think we got on well with Gill's tree yesterday and I think I may have just found the elusive Mary Ann Tilling.

You so enjoy having Biggles Frank and it sounds like you had a nice sleep last night.
Now be carefull doing those pots. Are they plastic? or wooden?
They will look so nice when Ros plants them up.

Frank

Frank Report 11 May 2019 12:10

It's me again. Yes Mel. the pots are in position. I tried screwing them into position but couldn't get the screws through the bottom of the pots, so have put nails in instead. Once filled with compost and planted out, I don't think they will go anywhere. ;-) ;-)

Favour to be asked. !! How do I SAVE email addresses into my CONTACTS please.??

So you are getting on well with Gill's tree Mel, you and Annx are so good to the rest of us with your help. When I get round to looking at mine again, no doubt I will be asking for help.

Lovely morning now, doors all open at the back so Biggles can come and go as he likes.I am not bothering going to the pub today, My back is not feeling good after all the bending over the pots. The last thing I need is a fall in the Village hall car park, or the steps going down to the path.

I will wait for Ros to come home now, and have some lunch.

Annx

Annx Report 11 May 2019 12:22

Afternoon All,

Patchy sunshine up to now after rain overnight. I was disappointed to see one of my tomato plants in the greenhouse flopped over with a kink in the stem this morning. It wasn't wilted so I think a bird probably went in when I left the door half open so it didn't overheat in there yesterday. I've tied it up (they were only 6 inches high) and hope the stem will mend as it grows. It's a nuisance as if I buy another it will be much smaller.

I hope the lump soon goes down Frank. I expect with the stuff being thick, it's unavoidable. Good news on the swelling though so that would have been reassuring. Good idea to fix your pots like that Frank!!

I hope your earache has gone now Mel. It's something I have never had apart from cold wind in my ears making them hurt, but it must be nasty when it hurts all the time.

OH has gone to the last match of the season near Nottingham with his pal who is a house husband and looks after the home and their two boys. His wife has a high powered job she loves in the Ambulance Service, but doubt many men would be prepared to do it to enable their wives to do a job they love, whilst still having a family.

I'm off to see a painting exhibition in the village hall at a local village next. I like this one as there are some good artists and I come home wanting to get my paints out!! lol. At this time I hope people are having lunch so I can get a parking space close by.

It will be good to see Jane back again.<3

Gillx Report 11 May 2019 14:31

Afternoon all

I'm running really late today, didn't get to bed until after 3am this morning, putting everything onto my tree that Mel kindly found for me, so I slept in until really late this morning. I answered all my messages and emails, then when I finished that my mum called around for a visit, she's just left so here I am.

It's lovely and sunny today so OH has just cut all the lawns which look much better now.

Thanks Mel for all your help, I think you're right and you have found Mary Ann Tilling, just need the marriage banns to confirm who her father was when she married George Lewis then I can add her to my tree with him and her children including the Helen/Ellen she had when she was an unmarried mother. It's like building a jigsaw puzzle without a picture isn't it, but with your help I finally have a starting point for OH's tree. Thank you so much for all your time, we both really appreciate it <3 <3

So you have Biggles for the day Frank, you'll enjoy each other's company. I see you have done your pots they'll look lovely when they're planted up. Sorry I can't help you with how to save email address's into your contacts I had trouble doing mine, I did it in the end but can't remember what I did and have the same problem as you now on how to add new contacts. It was so much easier with AOL but my new one is more complicated so it's just trial and error with me.

Lovely to see you on here Jane, like AnnG said take as long as you need <3 <3

I'm so pleased the weather is better for AnnG's journey to Wales, save journey AnnG, have a lovely time away, I hope the weather stays as nice as it is today.

Enjoy your time at the painting exhibition Ann, I like things like that and often go and see local artists who display their work in our local village hall, they are so clever, I wish I could paint like that.......I do a mean stick man if that counts lol :-D :-D

Going to take another look at OH's family tree now and see if I can find some more people, I'm on the children of all the couples Mel found for me yesterday, it should be a bit easier now I know the mother's maiden names, so hopefully it won't drive me mad like trying to find the other's did. If it wasn't for Mel's help I'd still be pulling my hair out with them all.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 11 May 2019 14:32

Done lunch after going to Em's with eggs and the shop for my paper and then I saw the girl I get the chickens from at the crossroads. I spoke to her and she said if she gets any that are picked on a lot by the others she will let me know so I could get a couple more to replace the ones I have lost. I did lose an old girl yesterday so now I am down to 7 again.

Also been to a wedding this morning after all that. A friends daughter was getting married in the church so I went up there and saw them married. That was before lunch.

Now I am going to clean the chickens out and then have another look at Gill's tree.

The suns still shining its head off.

Hope Anng has a good journey to Wales and got everything done that needed doing before she went.

Love to Jane and family. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

O Frank I forgot to tell you how to add a contact!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Silly me.

Try this

Log into your emails and have a look at the icons near the top of the page and look for a little person hover the mouse over it and it should say Contacts then click on that and it will take you to your list of names and emails. Once there look for NEW and click on that and you should be able to put the name in and email address and then click on Save at the bottom.

Simples.................. :-D

Annx

Annx Report 11 May 2019 16:32

I agree Gill as with my old email you could add contacts so easily, didn't even have to type the email address. Now I have to open the address book to do it and enter the whole thing! At least with Frank and Mel using the same provider, what she said should work for him! I went to the exhibition, but had to go a long way round as I had a lapse and took a wrong turn.......at least I had a nice ride around the country lanes past the Emu farm!! lol The exhibition was good as usual and had some lovely seascapes this time and a few mixed media pictures using material and cotton strands. It sounds like you are doing well with your OH's tree again now Mel has found a person for you. I must get back to mine soon as I still need to find some more of the gipsy families and wonder what other strange names I will find.

We had our voting papers come this morning as we need to do postal votes this time with being away. I also had a parcel come that I was expecting and tore it open, only to find it wasn't what I ordered and appeared to be some sort of long but very narrow strongly elasticated white vest thing with armholes and thin shoulder straps??? I looked at the address and it WASN'T ours, but not far away!! I sealed everything up again and put it to take with me when I go out tomorrow so I could deliver it, along with profuse apologies for opening it!! I was just wondering if my parcel had been delivered elsewhere in error when the doorbell went and a courier chap asked me if he had left a wrong parcel. I told him I'd opened it, but he said he would 'sort it' and off he went after giving me my parcel I was expecting. I'm still wondering what that vest like, all elastic thing was though and how anyone would manage to breathe wearing it.

Do you get many church weddings nowadays Mel? If I see one in the village, I like to stop and see the bride in her dress.

I Hope AnnG enjoys her break in Wales. Hopefully it has been as dry for travelling as it has been here.

Evening all. We got here around three after a good journey across country via Hereford, Leominster, Ludlow , Welshpool and Porthmadog. We didn’ use the sat nav but went by the map and a bit of google to find the B&B and didn’t go wrong once.

We are on the third floor, unfortunately no lift, with a beautiful view out over the sea. Walking to restaurants is interesting as it is all a bit steep hopefully it will be ok as we don’t really want to take the car.

Gillx Report 11 May 2019 19:20

Lovely to see you on here Jane. That's nice of you to go to Hannah's, she'll be glad to see her mum and you can both have some mother daughter time together. When you pack the veg don't pack smelly veg or your clothes will smell of the veggies lol ;-) Yes I think a week away later in the month will do you and Chris good.
Give Hannah a hug from Sandra and I when you see her <3

I know what it's like in Wales for the hills AnnG, remember me telling everyone how the hill we lived on was massive. The local children used to slay down it and it was so bad on our drive, which went down the side of the hill, that our handbrake cable broke. I hope the hills aren't as bad as that when you go out. The sea view sounds nice, that's the one thing I miss, although I don't miss the salt air, it damages everything. Pleased to see your journey was a good one with no mistakes, is the weather nice and sunny?

We've had the sun all day and it makes a lovely change from all the rain we've had lately, if it's nice tomorrow I might get into the garden and sort out my pots, I need to change the ones that have gone over, with the ones that are about to flower.

Yes, Mel has been brilliant Ann helping with OH's tree, she found lots of people and sorted out the elusive Mary, I would never of been able to sort it out myself, I'm so grateful. Fancy taking a wrong turn to the exhibition, it's easily done though and you had a nice drive in the country before you got there. I've never heard of art made with cotton strands before, did you take any photo's or aren't you allowed to? We're not allowed, but if you did I'd love to see them.

I've PM'd you Mel about Isaac Lewis, I don't know who he is so can't add him to my tree yet. I'm getting there with the children of the couple's you found for me. Did you manage to find Mary and George's marriage banns? I tried looking but couldn't find them, which I thought was strange as everyone else's seem to be online. Maybe her surname has been mis-spelt which would explain why I can't find it. How nice to go to a wedding, we're off to our old neighbours 100th on Tuesday, we're really looking forward to it. It's not often you get to go to a 100th birthday is it? OH saw her daughter today, she has been diagnosed with throat cancer, but is doing well with her treatment ,so that's good.

Going to do a bit more of OH's tree now before the F1 highlights come on, I've been avoiding the news all day so I didn't see the results.

Annx Report 11 May 2019 19:27

You are a good mum Jane and I'm sure it will be better for her to have you there and not be on her own just now. It will save Gareth being worried about her while he's at work too. So it's chicken with a sauce on Monday then, sounds good to me! :-). Will Chris or James drive you there? If not I hope the potatoes won't weigh your case down too much! Very best wishes to her. <3 <3 Yes, I have my case down and have packed my underwear today. I like to make an early start with things that don't need decisions. lol

Ann G you have me stumped with Zest sv? Is it some kind of satnav? It sounds like you have a lovely view where you are staying and will be keeping fit walking off those meals!

Evening all,

We've had rain here on and off for most of the morning then this afternoon the sun came out and it was quite warm so we got a few jobs done in the garden .

Nice to see you Jane ,a bit of mother and daughter time sounds just right and it's good that she won't be on her own then while Gareth's at work, love to Hannah xx
I hope your case doesn't spring open with all the goodies inside LOL

Has your ear ache eased up now Mel ? did the bride look nice and was there any brides maids ?
There use to be a wedding at the church near us every week now your lucky if you see one a month ,i don't think people are having the church weddings any more when they can have the wedding and reception all at the same place .

How is your back today Ann ?
So the case is being packed ...i bet no sign of the lost Stick hiding in there was there ?
The garment in the parcel sounded an odd thing ,must have been for some keep fit fanatic LOL ,was it addressed to a man or woman ?

Glad you arrived in Wales ok AnnG have a lovely week , you'll need some walking boots for those steep hills :-D

Annx

Annx Report 11 May 2019 21:09

My back's improved a bit more today Mandy thank you and I managed to get into bed without much of a performance last night. I think if I'm careful it will be ok for when we go away thank goodness. :-D That was what I wondered about weddings in church as one of the hotels we sometimes go to for a meal seems to have a lot of weddings now. The garment was addressed to a man and looked as if it might fit an eight year old. I wondered if it was something 'medical' at first, but you'd need oxygen if you ever got it on!

I noticed the husband of one of my work colleagues has passed away aged 88. She would make us laugh, and said her hubby liked a drink, and once after imbibing, when they were having dinner (her aunt also lived with them) he calmly poured custard over his shepherd's pie......then ate it without noticing! She said she and her aunt had tears running down their faces trying not to laugh.

Thanks Annx I have edited. Just love the corrections the iPad does for me it was satnav.
I wonder if the recipiant of the parcel will be embarrassed if he knows it was opened.

Jane hope Hannah will soon be able to cope. It must be traumatising for them both. Mum and daughter time will be good. You will know when it is time to go home. <3

Mandy I do have Bracher walking trainers which I have used for walking for quite a few years now.

Gillx Report 12 May 2019 08:43

Morning all

Another lovely sunny day so we're going to sort out the pots, OH is watering the garden first, we have so many pots that even with all the rain we're had lately they still need a top up, the rain can't get into all the pots with them being so close together so we have to keep an eye on them, it's not to bad at the moment as there isn't a hosepipe ban, it's a bit of a nightmare when we do have the ban as they all have to be done with watering cans and can take a very long time to do.

I noticed our apple tree we put into a large pot last year has lots of apples starting to grow, there are quite a few together so they'll need thinning out once they grow bigger or they'll knock each other off and we might not be left with many. Last year the tree didn't do so well and we only ended up with one very small apple which we couldn't do anything with, so I'm pleased it's doing better this year.

We had another nice comment on our front garden yesterday, especially all the Tulips we put in, everyone seem to like them dotted about in between all the other plants, the rain knocked them about a bit but they still look pretty and our planters are full of flowers, unfortunately I can't remember the names of them but they look really beautiful, my mum commented on them yesterday as they are right by the front door.

The new neighbour told OH is is moving in on the 28th of this month, the removal people are booked and his son is helping him, so we'll have new neighbours soon.

While OH waters the pots I'll take another look at his family tree, I found lots of children for one couple so today's job is to enter them all onto my tree. That'll keep me busy for a bit.

Pleased to see your back is improving Ann. Yes, I was wondering if the man who the parcel was for might of been a bit embarrassed at the thought of you opening it, I wonder what it was. Sorry to hear one of your work collegues has passed away, I did laugh at the comment on putting custard on the shepherds pie and not noticing, fancy doing that.

Enjoy your walks AnnG, hope you have the nice weather like us and the hills aren't to steep.

Did you have a lovely day with Biggles yesterday Frank? Hope you back is feeling a bit better today after all your hard work with the pots. Good idea not to go out, rest would probably of done you more good.

I see you've been working in your garden Mandy, it's an ongoing job isn't it? Mind you if you're anything like me it's an enjoyable job.

Be careful you don't pack your case to heavy with all the potatoes and veg Jane, safe journey tomorrow, give my love to Hannah. Hope you are feeling okay <3

Going to get a cuppa then take a look at OH's tree while I wait for him to finish watering the plants, then I'll get out there and help him move the pots around. They are in the shade at the moment and prefer to be in the sun so that's a job for today while the weather is nice. Once they come into flower we will dot them around the borders, for now they can go onto the patio behind the greenhouse where it's sunny.
