Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 26 Oct 2010 17:43

There is a smashing wool shop in Holsworthy and a lovely girl runs it.

Yes pumkins do grow from seed and need to be planted out when there is no risk of frost. Begining of June for most of us but if Fiona joins in she may have to wait a little longer acording to her weather in Scotland.

If you have a good compost heap you can grow them on there. Or if you can get a lots of horse exhaust and dig a 3 foot hole and back fill it with compost then the earth and grow it on that it should be fine.

We shall have to get Christmas over first and then in the new year I shall remind you all. With tips!!

We grew one big one once and put it on a barrow outside and did a guess the weight of the pumkin and the money went to the bell fund I think. It was won by our reader in the church. It weighed a hundredweight exactly. She won a bottle of wine.

Another one from the same year we gave to a man who put it in a compatition in a well know garden center round here. We went on the weighing day and he won too!!! Did'nt give us any of the prize though the old skinflint!! Gosh thats a blast from the past!!!!

A Pumpkin competition !! are there different types of Pumpkin ? we'll need to all get the same seeds ,Mel you'll have to tell us what type to buy .

Did any one see the huge Pumpkin on the television ,it weighed 85 pound !! do you think ours will be that big lol

Well hubby has just had a piece of his tooth break off !!,he said he heard a crunch ,he was only eating a sandwich as we had a meal at lunch time .

He then opened a Yogurt and spilt it all over his t shirt and trousers !!!!!

Jill, we have a nice wool shop in the town ,i'am knitting my grandson a scarf ,he wanted black and grey stripes .

Cooked two lamb shanks for us, which I have never had before!! cut a peice of carrot popped it in my mouth and the bit I had cut dropped off the end adn went down my jumper, splashed in the jus and covered the paper next to me. OH just looked upwards and carried on eating.

Iv'e been ironing too but only got a few things done and had to corn the chickens and then get them tucked up for the night. I shut the banties in went round to count how many were in their bedroom bit and there were only 5 instead of 6. Looked round and I had shut the cockeral out!! Just as well I checked as we had a fox in the garden yesterday morning.

I will behave now .Honest!! Guides Honour..........I never joined the Guides because the lady who ran guides scared the pants off me .I can't think what a guide leader is called .But I did love being a Brownie and felt very proud when I got my wings to fly up to Guide.I have all my badges somewhere and the colours are as bright as the day I got them all.

Pumpkin Competion. Mmmmm
Don't know if I could join in that, with the weather in Scotland never being reliable, we didn't do any good with our sunflowers this year I think we only had 1 and it reached about 4 foot. pathetic
also our bagonias have all died with the frost, gone all mushy yuck!!!!!
But it would be interesting to see how you lot get on I imagaine Mels garden does well as she lives in Devon every time I went on holiday there as a child it was allways nice and sunny.

The talk on servants was quite good. It did make me smile when they were talking about how servants found jobs and said the better educated ones would nick his lordship's newspaper after he had done with it so they could look through the adverts!!

Hope the lump turns out to be nothing worrying Sheila.

Jill, that vertigo sounds horrid, take care you don't fall. Hope it goes before you do the witch thing.......mind you the broomstick might be a help....can't have you lurching down the road! We hardly have any wool shops now. I find if you see a pattern you like, they don't have the right wool or the other way around and I'm not patient enough to knit 'swatches'. Years ago, with there being a lot of hosiery around here, the factory shops would sell big cones of wool really cheaply. All gone now.

No rushing up the garden in that new posh coat to corn the chickens Mel! I always loved the Reefer jackets when I was in my teens. I also remember not being able to afford one at the time. Oh dear....boo hoo.

I don't think I will have room for a pumpkin...........maybe a giant grobag on the patio. lol

Jane, If you had asked before encroching on my patch. I could have told you ELV# and Ann Harve# were no longer in Beeties. Since it was taken over by House of F##### it has gone down hill, Ros has to go to M K to ger what she wants.

Mel, I could bet my last penny (thats all Iv'e got) that Ros will spill something down her top every time we. eat. Might be something to do with her BUST. I never said that.

Jane are you thinking of Brown Owl or Arkala.????
Sorry auntie Mel, Will try to behave myself, BUT it's Janes fault !!!! You know what's she's like.
