Annx Report 23 Oct 2010 17:49

Well, and I was just going to ask 'Delia' how she stops the juice coming through the crumble topping too!!

Annx

Annx Report 23 Oct 2010 17:52

Ohh I misread it the crumble is homemade, but not the custard !! lol I use Bird* too.

Jane

Jane Report 23 Oct 2010 17:59

Don't think I had too much juice Ann.I think it should be a bit more juicy. But hey the custard will make it ok lol.The blackberries came all the way from Guatamala!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.Isn't that awful.

Guess your comments are directed at me Ann. Well in reply, if you are so 'supportive' as a group, why haven't you responded to either Sheila or Catiel's comments? Would it be that you are too 'busy' to read them or that simply you do not care? Additionally, what is the point in contributing to a thread if you don't actually read what others have to say. Sounds pretty absurd to me.
I haven't set out to upset Mel or anyone else who has endured a bereavement for that matter. This isn't your 'personal site' Ann, this is a GR chat room. If you wished for private conversations, may I suggest your email facility or maybe texting.

Childhood memories?
Three in a bed.
My Fathers overcoat put on top of the bed clothes in the winter.
The winter of 1947.
Food rationing and rationing on clothes.
I still have some of my Grand Father's ration coupons.

I would just like to say that I have been in touch with Sheila and Catie on personal messages. Some things you don't want put on an open forum Piers.

Anyway have you got any memories that we could share please?

I have just found a book in my mums desk where I asked her to write down things she remembered from her childhood. If any of you would like to hear them I will transcribe them a bit later on. I have'nt read it all yet myself.

Jane

Jane Report 23 Oct 2010 18:16

Well I usually keep quite but I now think
Enough is Enough !!!.I'm fed up with all this going on.

Mel ,I'm so glad you liked the flowers.I won't tell what a scream it was ordering them at M&S.The girl doing it on the computer was as hopeless as me lol.But between the 2 of us we managed after about half an hour !!!

The custard I use is the ready made up one in the plastic tubs.My dear Mum would be horrified lol.She used to make lovely custard.

Jane

Jane Report 23 Oct 2010 18:17

Mel that would be wonderful.Yes please.

Jane

Jane Report 23 Oct 2010 18:20

David ,were the 3 in a bed you and your Brothers?.I was lucky and never had to share.Only with my dolls and teddies.Oh and the cat called Peter who used to sleep at the bottom of the bed and keep my feet nice and warm.

David

David Report 23 Oct 2010 18:32

Yes,me,Dennis and Ralph.
Sometimes my younger brothers slept with my Mother when they were very young and my Father slept with me.
All this in the front attic bedroom of 200 Portland Road.We lived and ate in the slightly larger room to the rear.
There was no running water on this floor.
We bathed in a tin bath before a coal fire.
The water was carried up from the ground floor and heated on a gas ring.

Jane

Jane Report 23 Oct 2010 18:45

David ,I remember that photo you put up on the photo page of you and your Brothers.I thought it was a great pic.
I know sometimes in the mornings when I woke up I would creep into mum and dads bed.It was so cosy. But the best thing was having a nice hot water bottle that would be warming my bed .I would gradually push it further down so it ended up at the bottom and I would put my feet on it.I think I have said before on here how I love the smell of a hot water bottle.

Evening all
Glad you like your flowers Mel and glad my card arrived, Jane did a good job there, once again Jane thank you for doing that ,
Mel I have e-mailed you.

I am also sad that Sheila & Catie have decided not to join us again, but understand if that is their choice, it was nice to chat to them anyway while they were here. Best of luck to them & their families for the future.
Has been another cold day here, I have been feeling a bit off colour this afternoon ,I hope I am not finely going down with the cold and virus that has been going around my family.

Thank you Maureen for the Halloween card, it's a good one, love the little spook at the end.

I remember my first real Halloween night , I must have been about 5 and I was visiting my Nana & Papa here in Scotland and it was the first time that I was allowed to go out all dressed up in costume, and Being an only child, I had no one who would take me round the streets. I was only allowed to go to the neighbours and sing a song for some sweets.
But I remeber this night being dressed in a nurses uniform carring a sick dolly and I went from door to door with my 2 older cousins, it was great and all the nieghbours thought my little english accent was cute.

Go Girl Shirl !!.........you aren't too old lolol
I thought of a word that dad used to often say ,now I doubt this the right spelling ,but it was go Cockanny. It was if I used too much of something .He would say "Go Cockanny "

Jane

Jane Report 23 Oct 2010 19:42

No need for thanks Liz .It was my pleasure. But it was just so funny .We both had to keep putting our specs on to see the screen, then it kept disappearing ,then we had it typed in that the flowers were going to be delivered to me !!!!!.
So we had to start all over again lol
I was so relieved that they got to Mel !!.
