Late as always, but i thought I had better pop in.

Been very bizy boy today. Picked all the cooking apples, given loads away but still have three buckets, four carrier bage and a table full of apples. I would think we had over 120 lbs. Going to clean up the best and try to keep. The others will be stewed down and frozen in bags for apple sauce. Also cut back the tree. Loaded all the branches onto wheelbarrow and took over to the allotments, where there is a tip for vegetation. Then cleared up the lawn. Came in about 5pm. Ros popped off to Tesc# for some bits while I got dinner Which we had about 7pm. Ros washed up and cleared away while I sat with a well erned beer. I have had my shower and sat about all evening. Ready for bed now, just finishing a glass of RED.

SEE YOU TOMORROW>

Morning All
It is muggy muggy !.I need to go to the garden centre to get a present for my neighbours birthday tomorrow.I think I will go now ,and then I don't have to go out again today.
I have a recipe for Tomato Galette Sounds posh doesn't it ,but it is just puff pastry spread with a tomato paste and then topped with any type of baby tomatoes, garlic ,a teeny bit of chillie(may miss that out),crumbled goats cheese, oregano and thyme. So I will a go at that.

Gosh you were busy Frank. You could always come down here and help me pick our apples, you know. We have about ten trees in the little orchard and six apples up the veg garden and five pear trees. One that the bantams roost on and another further along the top wall, then three espaliers along the west side of the garden. I have never had a pear from them yet as the frost seems to take all the blossom. Then there are the two damsons outside the wall and three victoria plums and another bramley.

Frank Report 20 Aug 2010 11:27

Mel, At our previous house we had Victoria, Golden plums, Pears, Apples. The plums trees would give us so much fruit. We would leave washing baskets full on a table for passers by to help themselves. Everyone I worked with had a carrier bag full. It would take a couple of days to pick them. The last year we were there onr branch was so loaden in broke under the weight.

I was a lazy boy today, Layed in bed till 11.00am listerning to the radio. two cups of tea and a mamarlade sandwich in bed !!!!! What's she after !!!!

Afternoon All,

I was late up too ....about 10.30am ....and got a cuppa in bed. I was up very late last night doing FH. Found one of OH's way back rellies descended from an uncle then, so some kind of cousin removed a few times. He was described as a gentleman and retired ribbon manufr and he left £6500 in his will in 1913. How do I find out what that would be equivalent to now? Sounds like a few new cars worth to me.

I always get blackfly on nasturtiums. Perhaps even more stronger soapy water Mandy.

Annx

Annx Report 20 Aug 2010 13:05

I just found a historic inflation calculator on-line. Flippin heck!! £6500 then would be equivalent to £545,675 now!!!! Worth a few Rolls Royce's then. He was 77 when he died.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 20 Aug 2010 13:49

Well i will not be having Nasturtiums again ,they're alive with the little Bu**ers ,i'll get some sort of spray tomorrow to deal with them .

Wow Ann ,thats a lot of money !! you don't see little girls with ribbons in their hair now ,DIL puts Chelsea's hair in pigtails, and fastens those coloured bands round the ends ,its just long enough now to do that ,but she won't keep them in for long .

Usually under the bed was a good place Mandy because it was cooler in the bedroom. My grandad did the newspaper thing and pcked them in a big wooden box and put them in the shed. When I was small my nan would cook stewed apples and custard or apple pie every day to use them up!!! Then it was the victoria plums turn and we would have plums and custard or plum pie every day for days to use them up. I never ate pie when I was young but did like the plums and custard. In fact I may do that tonight as mum likes it.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 20 Aug 2010 14:37

Mandy you could try firing a gun near the plants and they will all fall off with the shock. A good clap of the hands works sometimes too!! Or blow up a paper bag and burst it by the plant. Or just keep picking them off each day like I do on my cabbages in the tunnel.

I am trying to fix up some fruit cage netting on the openings in the tunnel because I get loads of butterflies in there. Trouble is I have big vent that turn on the middle so the netting has to go inside on one half and outside on the other half so there is still a gap!!

HI Amanda just been read ing There was a old lady who swallowed a fly. I hated that song it was Burl Ives recorded it on a LP and my uncle Frank used to cut out spiders and flies and do the actions of swallowing them while playing on his accordian. He also did renderings of a Carmen Meranda Yi Yi Yi I love you very much Yi Yi YI I think your grand she used to have a turban with fruit on it and he would dance with this mums skirt and bra and the lid off a pineapple Ice cube container stuck on his head. My favourite poem I found yesterday by Roald Dahl not sure of the spelling for his first name about Goldilocks locks .I read it out at school one day and it did not go down very well. My brother returned loads of my old collections of my childhood which had been all thrown a a trunk and he put them in his loft.
No sooner you go down the road
Goldilocks that little toad
That noisy thieving little louse
Comes sneaking in your empty house
She looks around and quickly notes
Three bowls of porridge oats
And while still standing on her feet
She grabs a spoon and starts to eat
How would you feel if you made this
lovely meal and some delinquent little tot
broke in and gobbled up the lot.
She does not care or does not mind
How she plonks her fat behind upon a dainty
precious chair belonging to a little bear.

But no she not finished yet
Deciding she would like to rest
clambers up the stairs.
But Goldie didnt give a shred
and climbed up on the bed.
Her flithy shoes were thick with grime
and mud, slush ,and slime.
Worse still upon the heel of one
was something that the dog had done.
Oh daddy cried the little bear
Somethings stuck upon my chair
My porridge is gone it isnt fair
Daddy Bear shook his head he
said the culprits on your bed
But as it s inside mademoilselle
You will have to eat her as well.

Ther other kids in the class really laughed and clapped but the teacher just said yes well back to work. I have been
doing shop all this week in the evening so had to leave the thread but read everyones .I remember our cinema was pretty boring because it was only a local small one but the Gaumont in town had a organ and a sing along before every performance and the usheretts were in lovely maroon
uniforms with pill box hats .I am glad I did not wear one with my hair. Have a nice evening. glad you like the film
Jane and Ann any photoes you have love to see of your hair Jessica was asking me how to do a french plait because her hair is lovely and long. I did not know so thought I would ask you.

I am fed up today went out this morning and it was rainy
my friends car stopped right in the middle of the road and we had to push it. Its not stopped raining and the man did not do the skylight very well its leaked water . I remember Naturtiums they were low and pretty and red and yellow and they used to get fat seeds on them and I remember we had some in our front garden and brown hairy long grub like things used to cover them.Ii used to collect them in a jam jar and play with them on the kitchen table my mum would say take those filthy things out but I thought them cute but would not like now. Well I am off to do
some sweet bagging penny sweets the kids love them
especially the toothbrushes and false teeth.
