Evening all,
Lots of posts to read ,you've all been busy .

Had the grandchildren here all day ,we had a walk round the shops and a walk down by the river and they were good as gold .
Been lovely and sunny and warm too, as they went home there was a few big spots of rain and that was it !

Maureen , thanks for the photo's of Alfie he looks really cute.

Jane Report 19 Aug 2010 20:10

Maureen

Maureen Report 19 Aug 2010 20:27

Thanks to all for your well wishes for Alfie, it is heartening to hear how some poor little Kitties have survived.

My goodness Ann, I was exhausted just reading what you have been doing and that was just working out what shops you were talking about ....lol

Son gets the keys to his house tomorrow, he's more excited than a kid at Christmas, good job his partner is sensible, keeping his feet on the ground but he really deserves it he has worked so hard.

Annx Report 19 Aug 2010 20:29

Good reply Jane!! lol At the time everyone your own age probably has a similar hairdo so it doesn't look out of place then does it. lol It's just when you look back!! lol Mind you, years ago some people kept the same hairdo throughout their lives. My dad did for one......complete with cream on it!! MIL's hairdo is almost the same as on her wedding photo. At least we had a bit of variety.

Jane

Jane Report 19 Aug 2010 20:34

Variety is the spice of life Ann.lol.I loved my feather cut when I was 15.Loved my demi wave too .Now I love the colour !!No grey .

Go on Ann I want to see too.

Talking of the cinema, I used to go to Saturday morning pictures ( we never called it cinema, that was a bit posh !!!!)

They were offering free ice creams/lollies for all those that got up and sang before the films started. Can't imagine that was me that got up there with the mike and sang, maybe it was the incentive of a free ice cream, but I did, and I sang: "I know an old lady who swallowed a spider" if you know the song you will know it goes on and on, It ended with the compare coming on and saying "well, that's was great, thank you very much !!!!" or words to that effect. I guess I got my free ice cream, can't remember how it ended.

Yes we did whizz about a bit Maureen. I bet your son will be awake and up early tomorrow!! It was lovely to get the keys of your first house though wasn't it. Walking round the rooms thinking this is all ours!! No wonder your son is thrilled! Will he be living in the same area as you?

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed the fly,
Perhaps she'll die.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 19 Aug 2010 21:14

Thanks Ann
Here's the verse .

There was an old woman who swallowed a fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly,
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old woman who swallowed a spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed the fly,
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old woman who swallowed a bird,
How absurd! to swallow a bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed the fly,
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old woman who swallowed a cat,
Imagine that! to swallow a cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed the fly,
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old woman who swallowed a dog,
What a hog! to swallow a dog,
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed the fly,
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old woman who swallowed a goat,
Just opened her throat! to swallow a goat,
She swallowed the goat to catch the dog,
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed the fly,
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old woman who swallowed a cow,
I don't know how she swallowed a cow!
She swallowed the cow to catch the goat,
She swallowed the goat to catch the dog,
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed the fly,
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old woman who swallowed a horse,
She's dead—of course!

MillymollyAmanda Report 19 Aug 2010 21:25

OH Ann ! thats a head of hair ,was it stiff with hair spray ? they always seemed to use a whole tin of hair spray to hold your hair in place LOL

Maureen

Maureen Report 19 Aug 2010 21:48

I do remember getting to the bit where she swallowed a horse, she's dead of course, probably the whole of the kids in the cinema wished they were dead at that point but I think we were much nicer in those days and I don't remember getting booed or jeered off the stage.

Little Alfie is sitting on my lap and his nose is a bit wet and cold, that's a good sign.

Jane

Jane Report 19 Aug 2010 21:54

That's it Mandy. That will be on my mind all night lolI will still be singing it when I wake up !! Poor old Lady !
I think I am just about ready for my bed.Trouble is I have just finished dinner and I feel stuffed. If I lie down now I won't be able to breath properly.Maybe I should go and run a few laps around the garden(not)
See you all again tomorrow.Where are Frank and David today?
Night Night xx

Annx

Annx Report 19 Aug 2010 21:56

It had that much spray on it felt like a brill* pad Mandy and I hardly dared sleep on it the first night. lol It took a few years off me at the time as he cut off a lot of the grey at the sides which was good!! Surprisingly it did not need much spray after unless it was windy. I think that was a batwing jumper I was wearing in the photo.

Thanks for putting the rhyme up........it was driving me mad trying to remember it.

I was just thinking about the old light fittings mum and dad had in the lounge when I was little. A big opaque glass trifle dish shape with pebble effect in the glass and hung on clanking chains. Another was a dish shape that had light brown and cream pieces of glass that slid out to clean. It looked a bit like an open fan from underneath.
