Had a call last night from SIL and she is coming down tomorrow with hubby for their holiday in our caravan so I shan't be around much.

Jane what is the name you are looking up please? Is it the same family I did for you last week? I have that on file.

Hi hope Toby is ok now not so windy.Jasper my little cairn
is eating his paw away I will have to take him to the vet.
Beryls daughters are ok really I get on with them fine it is
a problem with the drinking and I am what they call posh
and they are not concerned about anything really, like a fag
and drink .I get sarcastic remarks when I see them but take no notice used to it I say while they are running
me down they are leaving someone else alone. Is my attitude for most people.I just try to lead a decent happy life
and not worry about people. I was kind to Beryl and it paid off today she sent me some roses from the local flower shop. My good old mum used to say if you show a kindness you will be rewarded in heaven .Well lets hope I do not find out for a while. Bye Mandyxx

afternoon all
Wet but mild.
Catiel what a rotten thing to happen to your gates, must have been superman who lifted them all the way on top of the telephone box,
mind you we have had planters lifted from outside our front door before, and found them in the next streets garden turned upside down.
Strange talking of telephone boxes , I have never seen a telephone box for years, do you have many of them left in your area Catiel?
Most people have mobiles these days so they don't need to use a public phone.
we do have a few red post boxes left, but we mainly hand our letters in at the post office.

Sheila

Sheila Report 9 Aug 2010 15:05

CATIE nice to see you back just mentioned you how did you work week end go .What a nerve taking your gates like that I think there are some very bad people around we used to have flowers in a tub outside our shop and the students used to carry them off and dump them up the road outside the garage. Once we had a clock outside and somebody stole it during the night. We have a neigbourhood watch and not long along had a man walking around
with tomato sauce on his face and plasters and said he had been attacked and wanted money to phone the police
then the neigbourhood watch told everyone he was using ketchup and it was not blood funny really.

Sheila Report 9 Aug 2010 15:27

What happened to all those little post offices.I used to love
our post office just up the road .It was packed on a Tuesday with pensioners and we all had a good chat
while waiting I would buy a book of stamps and my maggie and birthday cards and wool to knit scarves for the old peoples home across the road. When it closed down you would see the elderly ladies waiting for the bus on Tuesday and it only runs every twenty minutes and they had to stand there in the snow getting frozen. Now there
is a shelter and seats. oh gosh my son in law just come in with his nose bleeding must go

Annx Report 9 Aug 2010 15:34

Afternoon All,

Hello catie.....sorry to hear about your gates.....what a nerve!! A work friend of mine had a nice brass door knocker stolen one night. they just unscrewed it and took it.

Mum lived in the city years ago and had plants dug up and taken from her front garden and chimney pots and planters taken from her back garden. Because she had some lock up garages down her drive people thought it was public and would park their cars in her drive to go to the football!! She used to padlock her gates and lock them in and demand car parking to let them out!! lol Some used to escape before she noticed by lifting her gates off the hinges.

I have had a good clean through today and done washing while OH watered and weeded outside. One of the gravel boards on my box has 2 cracks in it so I will have to ring the man who built it. None of the others are cracked so it must be faulty. Luckily it is a top one......OH wouldn't relish emptying it again to get a bottom one out!! lol

I won't be seeing him in a suit this week after all. lol He said he is wearing a dark shirt and trousers and no tie to his mum's do. At least any spills won't show will they. lol

How's the throat Sheila? Is Toby improving with his gas Mandy?

Jane

Jane Report 9 Aug 2010 16:08

Thieving little beggars, how dare they steal your gates Catie.Touch wood we have never had anything disappear.Hardly anyone passes our door on foot.
As to telephone boxes ,there are still the red ones (mainly around the villages ) I think. But they do not accept coins !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.What is one to do if your mobile conks out and you need a phone box and you don't have one of these phone cards???.I wonder if you had to ring 999 it would work. When I was on holiday in Suffolk and we had no signal on the mobile I found a phone box just up the lane. There was a notice to say it was no longer in operation and it was waiting to be adopted by the village (or words to that effect).

It is so warm here today, and no we still have had no rain lol
I hope your SIL hasn't bled all over your floor Sheila !!!

Ann I don't think I would get Chris in a suit now unless it is for a wedding or funeral lol.He no longer wears ties to work either.I think I said before there are well over a hundred redundant ties in his cupboard. Will he get rid of them...............NO !

Catie ,what instrument do you play?

Sheila

Sheila Report 9 Aug 2010 16:18

Oh sorry Catie talking of tomato ketchup and in comes my son in law with a bloody nose he was painting the front of the shop and fell off the ladder, white wash all over him I

she is a bit of a pain. being my sons godson does not help
he gets cards from her which say How are you baby still mummies pride and joy and he is forty two. Hope you sort out your gates must be vandels what is your area like.

Jane Report 9 Aug 2010 17:51

Sheila my OH and ladders don't go well together either. The worst fall he had was when my son was about 5.He decided to climb on to the top of a 10ft stone wall to prune back some Lilac.I was out with my daughter at the time.
It seemed that my son decided to follow Daddy up the ladder.Somehow they both ended up falling over the other side straight through a roof of a cycle shed onto concrete. The premises were shut ,so no-one to help, and there gates were locked,so OH had to somehow hoick James back over into the garden, and get back himself.I arrived home to find James lying on the lounge floor very quiet and pale and Chris unable to walk on his ankle.James then started being sick,so a neighbour took us to A&E.He was suffering from concussion and was off school for 2 weeks !!!!!!!.
Now every time I see a ladder come out ,I daren't leave the house lol
Chris managed to fall off one of those mini scaffolds when he was cutting back the hedge a few months ago.He is just not safe to be left on his own lol.

Jane Report 9 Aug 2010 19:16

Oh Catie ,I used to play the violin.I just was not too good at it lol.My daughter played the flute and got to grade ? I can't think which one but quite far on.I used to love listening to her play.Sadly the flute has been in it's case for many years now.

What is it with our OH's and ladders Ann???

You should see my hubby when he climbs up a roof ,he takes a few tiles off and climbs up the spline , he's got two Artifical Hips and he's still climbing !!
My heart is in my mouth just watching him.

That Marrow sounds nice Shirley ,never had sweet marrow before .

Thats awful about your gates Catie, they carn't leave anything alone can they ,we used to say they'll take anything if its not screwed down ,but they'll take it even if it is !!!,i've had plant pots taken from my front garden ,never to be seen again .

Yes ladies Toby is much better he's all blown out of gas !!!
