Well there isnt a lot online for Norfolk pre 1837 as they refused to hand over the church records to the Mormons (familysearch.org - IGI). Remember that registration wasnt compulsory until 1875. |

Looks like the 1851 marriage is the one with Ann the daughter 1852 being first child. |

Another confusing thing I forgot to mention. I think there must have been two son William's. On the 1871 census it shows a William H Neve aged 9. This is too old for my William who wasn't born until c1873 and was a William Samuel James. |

Oh, dont forget to try variations of the names on all sites, e.g. Neave |

Crikey, Thanks Heather, that's really helpful and some good tips. I take it you've been doing this a while? |

Oh also, I don't think Ann died until 1900. She appears on the 1871, 1881, 1891 census (where they are living in Gt Yarmouth) but is not on 1901 (George is shown as a widower). I have found a death registerd Jan/Feb/Mar 1900 in Yarmouth with the right EYB which I think is her. |

Ah, yes I wondered if there were two wives. Take it slowly - keep all the bits people have found here - print them off as they will come in to place some time but you must always verify facts before moving on. Get the birth cert - £7 from GRO online, never pay more, using the refs from freebmd. |

Well, if you get the birth cert, you can hopefully find the marriage ref then you can buy the marriage cert which will give his fathers name and occupation - which will help trace his birth. |
