Do you want to post some details... or send a PM if you prefer. Where was your 'other' evidence from? How does it differ? Are you working back from known facts? Gwyn

hi, yes i have my grandads certificate the conflicting info i have is he married a ceceily f farrant i know they got married in 1928 in plympton other info is deed for her grave but it states it is a Florence. A. Simmons which was her married name she died in hampshire in 1950,if i go by this certificate it mean she should have been born in 1898 in devon.

What was your grandmother's name? Could grandfather's 1st wife have died ( or divorced) and he married again. Can you clarify... deed for her grave... please? Do you KNOW that relates to your grandfather's family? Gwyn

Could this be her Oct/Nov/Dec Q 1897 Cissy Farrant born Risbridge 4a 759

Taking another look at your first message. Are the people on the marriage cert. the known parents of your mother / father? Are you sure of your parent's parents' names because it is THEIR marriage cert. that you need. How does Florence fit in to the above situation please? You may be looking at 2 different women and that's why it doesn't all fit. Gwyn

Jackie Is it possible that Cecily F Farrant had a middle name of Florence and this is what appears on the gravestone? It may be that she hated Cecily or was just known by her middle name - have you checked the date against the BMD to check that a Florence died, and if so, do you have the cert - who registered the death and would they have known that she was really Cecily not Florence? Regards Looby

It is interesting that she was registered as 'Cissy' this could have been a pet name for her, have you got her death certificate? xxhugxx

Zoe Report 24 Aug 2006 14:10

I can't see a Cissy or a Cecilly Simmonds death for 1950 there IS a Florence Simmonds death for 1950 in Winchester - she was aged 58 ***UPDATE*** nothing obvious coming up under spelling SIMMONS either

Unknown Report 24 Aug 2006 14:19

found these two Florence Winchester A/M.J 1950 (as found above) Florence Farnworth O/N/D 1950 age 67

I wonder if it is worth getting hold of the local newspaper and asking if they have an archive, the death could be in the obituary section. xxhugxx

When Ceceily married, How old is she? Who is shown as her father and what is his occupation. What are the names of the witnesses? Perhaps if we find the family in 1901. we will get a clearer picture. Gwyn

hi again everyone according to the marriage certificate, my grandfather charles henry simmonds married a ceceily florence farrant September 29th 1928. He was 28 and she was 30. his father was william simmonds, a coal merchant (who we have not found yet either) and her father's name is very difficult to read but looks like luther or something similar and he was a builder. the witnesses to the wedding were Lorna Mary korstright (? not sure of the surname there) and Albert Edward Powell. thank you jackie

Jackie There are about 6 Charles Simmonds born about 1900 in the 1901 census. How do you know which one is your grandfather? And are you sure there's no-one else at the address with him? And are you sure he was born before the 1901 census was taken?
