So he isn't on the census Jackie, he was born after it was taken. Perhaps we can find his father with the clue of his occupation. Where in the country was Charles born? Anne

And even if he WAS on the census, he couldn't have been on his own...how would the enumerator have known his name? OC

I've had a quick look but can't see any William Simmonds (or Simmons) in Winchester. None of the ones in Hampshire have the occupation of coalman/merchant either. However his occupation may well have changed from the time of Charles' birth to the time of his marriage. Its difficult for you but don't give up. Sorry I have to get to bed now - early start tomorrow! Anne
