hi can anyone help me how do I go about trying to find birth/parents etc before 1837 my grt grt grandfather Thomas henry nice born about 1837 stanaway Essex his father on his marriage cert is down as Thomas nice deceased who used to be a baliff .wher do I go from here ? many thanks heather .

not finding any census before the 1871 or a birth

I know its very frustrating as cant go any further .

did you find his fathers death he died before Thomas was married

How sure are you that your Thomas Nice was born 1837? I wouldn't discount the baptism at Marks Tey. Marks Tey and Stanway are very close.

no I know he was married to emma meadows my grt grt grandmother but know nothing about his father/parents

yes he did die
before Thomas was married

not sure on birth only know he died in 1873 so it could be right the baptism and thank you for all your help

There seem to be a few Thomas Nice born in Essex. In the 1851 census there is a Thomas Nice visiting in St Luke's, Chelsea. He gives his birthplace as Colchester. Stanway is part of Colchester. He is aged 16 so a birth around 1835.
