Christine Report 24 Apr 2015 18:40

I am trying to find a marriage between these two people. George was born in 1859 in Middlesex, England so states the transcription of the 1891 Census. The actual Census says London Bow. He is a Master Hairdresser.
He was married to Kate Lovell born 1868 in Hampstead, Middlesex. Her Father's name is George and Mother Eliza. Not sure of Mother's maiden name.
In 1891 they were living on Vernon Road.
I am assuming they would have been recently married as there are no children with them yet. A child Albert was born the next year followed by another, Charles the following year.
Any information would be useful. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick replies. I had not thought that he may not be free to actually marry although Kate did change her name to Hall and the children are all named Hall and on my Grandmother's birth certificate, Edith Kate Hall 1900, she identifies herself as Kate Hall.

I may have to get the other two children's birth certificates, Albert & Charles, and check them out.

The other strange thing is that I can find George only on the one census, just after they were married, living together in 1891.

I wonder if my grandmother was actually legally adopted.

Christine Report 24 Apr 2015 20:32

There is a family rumour that George and his brother Jack were Toomy's at one time. The brother apparently was a "deserter of women" and George was supposed to have opted out of the Irish army, changed his name and came to England. But since I was told that both the boys had a surname of Hall, my thinking is that perhaps it was their father that changed his name and came from Ireland. Jack apparently had 2 children but I have not done anything on him yet at all. I suppose that should be my next step as it may give me more info on George.

Thanks again for your help.
