Hi Jillian Sorry but I could find no record of the death of Henry Charles Palfrey on 1837 online. Perhaps he was one of the casualties who were never identified. Have you checked the Commonwealth War Graves site? Regards Mary

Hi, First a quick question, what will I be able to do with the GRO reference? Am trying to find out if the person I've found is one of my great-grandfather's brothers. I've been told that only my great-grandfather came back unscathed and that all of his brothers were either injured or died. Hi Julie and Margaret Hey guys I am only doing the lookups,but I have had a look at the Guidance notes on 1837 and it says to put a district and year but hardly any death references give districts so I guess you just enter the Vol & Page. As they say "suck it and see". The other option is to put Overseas in the district box. Sorry cannot be more help than that. Mary

Hi Mary, I wonder if you can help me. I am trying to get some info on my G.grandfather. His name was Stephen George Nash he was married in India in 1878 to Charlotte Baker. I have been told it is possible he went to South Africa in 1900 as a volunteer with" R.S.F volunteers H company Troon" on board the "Gascon" from Southampton arrived Cape Town before march 15th. I think he may have done something like that as there is no trace of his death in Britain. Stephen would have been 45-50 by then. Like I said any info would be great but please don't worry if there is nothing as everytime I turn I come up against a brick wall with this guy. Thank-you for your kind offer. Jean

Hi Lou Ihave found the following on Ernest Hawkridge: Ernest Hawkridge Private Service No 131175 Machine Gun Corps 1918 Vol M5Page 103. Further info on CWWG :Henry was his second name he died 9/4/18 aged 19.He was the son of Ernest & Florence Hawkridge 22 Gate St ,Dunkinfield,Cheshire.His name is on the Tyne Cot Memorial in France.
