Safc I think I am giving up for tonight.

Funny thing is I have just found a James Hulse with parents William and Sarah Wakefield on someones tree.

I am still looking for the marriage of Jame William Hulse to a Jane. On the 1911 census His wife Jane but they have only been married 2 years as it says in the box where you put how many years married.

So now I wish to find out what the first wife's maiden name was as this is the mother of the James William Hulse b 1877/8 Widnes Lancashire.

Maddie and I looked for his birth on the GRO but it dos'nt have the mothers maiden name on it!! So I would like to know whats going on please?

I can't even get that birth you put from gro when I try to do it.

Come to think of it on the 1881 census when they are down as Luce It might be Bentley Cheshire. I'll go and take another look.

How about this if the man who took down the census was a bit deaf???????? got the surname wrong and got Kingsley wrong by hearing Bensley????????

I'm totally confused by this thread. Apologies if I'm saying something which has already been thought of, and I've missed it!

However -
Is James born Prescot not the same child as James born Widnes?
A Widnes birth 1877 would show in GRO as Prescot., even if it showed in LancsBMD as Widnes.

GRO only uses the broad reg districts, but LancsBMD can be more exact.
There doesn't seem to be a birth on LancsBMD for him in Prescot.


Sarah Jane and Lawrence both died without ever appearing on a census:

Deaths Dec 1879 (>99%)
Hulse Sarah Jane 5 Prescot 8b 515

Deaths Mar 1881 (>99%)
Hulse Lawrence 0 Prescot 8b 500

So the "Luce" family in 1881 looks like the right one.
Then we have them in 1891 in Beaumont Street, Widnes.
And we have James W in 1911 with wife Elizabeth Ann.


Perhaps his parents weren't married. I don't see Hulse/Wakefield marriage, nor a Jane Wakefield marriage to any surname which subsequently married a Hulse.

Two possibles for Jane's birth:

Births Sep 1841 (>99%)
Wakefield Jane Runcorn 19 200

Births Sep 1842 (>99%)
Wakefield Jane Northwich 19 189


As James senior is living in Runcorn in 1871, I would guess Jane's the Runcorn one.

Maddie I don't know if Prescot is near Widnes or what but I have looked into Sarah Jane Wakefield but I will go over it again.
