Forgot to mention the birth record you found for James Hulse looks suspicious. When I took a look at the image the name was Thomas Hulse and the volume number didn't look right either, so I can't be certain if it's James or not. Thank you for mentioning it to me though. It looks like there is a typing error somewhere, so it might well be him after all but I don't have any siblings or parents for James Hulse, so ordering the birth certificate wouldn't be of any help at the moment.

Gillx Report 28 Jan 2018 14:18

Yes, I was thinking of buying the marriage certificate but have now found Walter, he was born in 1907 and died in 1976, he married Vera in 1954, by the looks of it this was his second marriage. He was born in Nantwich Cheshire, married his first wife in Nantwich, then went on to marry Vera in Northwich, he passed away in Vale Royal which I believe is part of Northwich. As far as I can tell Vera is still alive and living in the Cheshire area, not far from where she was born.

The reason it took me so long to find Walter is because he was 15 years older than Vera, I found him by chance as I was only looking for him having a birth year within 10 years of Vera's year of birth. I'm pleased I've found him and thank you all for your help.

However, I've still not been able to find James Hulse's birth or death dates yet. I'm beginning to think those dates will always remain a puzzle. :-S

To be absolutely sure about Harry, you should order his birth cert to check father's name.

Similarly, if you buy Vera's marriage cert (Northwich 1954), it will hopefully give you clues re Walter.
His age, for instance, would be a help.

For example:

There was one born 1925, Birmingham, mms Mason.
Another born 1926 Liverpool, mms Walton.

Both he and Vera may still be alive.

EDIT:

Probably the death of the 1925 one (so probably not the right one):

Thank you so much for all your research, I've now entered Harry as James and Jane's 2nd child. I've also found their 1st child's (Ethel Noden Hulse) marriage to a James Hooley Egerton and found their three children:

1. Vera H Egerton born Quarter December 1922 Northwich

2. Joyce Egerton born Quarter March 1924 Northwich

3. James A Egerton born Quarter September 1927 Died Quarter September 1927 both events in Northwich.

I've also found the marriage for Vera H Egerton to a Walter H Perkins, but unfortunately I can't seem to find his birth record. I've been trying for a few hours now but with no luck.

I tried looking for Vera and Walter's children and found one:

1. Ian Perkins born Quarter September 1957 Northwich. Who went on to marry a Janet Moss in 1976 in HIgh Peak Derbyshire.

Going back to Walter Perkins not only do I have a missing birth record for him, I also can't seem to locate his death record and I can't seem to find a death record for Vera either.

I shall take another look for the missing records tomorrow.

Thank you for helping me find Harry, I didn't even know they had another child until Erika mentioned it, so I'm really grateful for your help in confirming my findings.

You mentioned the child Harry:

Given the place and surnames, it seems reasonable to assume he was James's son, but of course he died before the 1901 census, so can't tell from that.

In 1901 the family lived in Over, which is part of Winsford.

Over, Cheshire
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Over is a former borough and market town that forms the western part of the town of Winsford in the English county of Cheshire. Wharton forms the eastern part, the boundary being the River Weaver.

Thanks ErikaH for the information.

I've had a quick look and think I might of found their 2nd child called Harry Hulse, he was born in Northwich, the same as Ethel in Quarter June 1900 and he died in 1901 Quarter March.

How do you know who the father is as I would like to see if Harry's father was James Hulse, then I'd know I have him right?

If you don't mind would it be possible to let me know who the living child was on the 1911 census please. I'm hoping it was Ethel. Also James and Jane Hulse, (nee Walker), year of births. I have Jane as being born in 1857 and think I've found her birth record in Northwich, but I can't seem to find a birth record for James. I have him being born in 1842 but I'm not sure if this is right. I think he may of been born in Prescot Lancashire, but I could be wrong. Because I can't find a birth record for him I haven't found a death date for him yet.

Thanks again for your help I really appreciate it.

Hi everyone

I am the friend who Mel was trying to help. I've just found this thread as I'm still stuck on this family so thought I'd see if anyone else was researching them too. It's quite a complicated family to say the least, but I'd like to thank everyone for helping Mel to help me. You are all very kind :-)

I'm now trying to find the children of James Hulse born circa 1842 and Jane Wakefield (born 1841 Runcorn and died Quarter September 1893 Prescot Lancashire).

The children I've found so far are:

1. Sarah Jane Hulse born Quarter September 1874 Prescot Lancs. Died December 1879 Prescot

2. James William Hulse born Quarter September 1877 Prescot Lancashire

3. Lawrence born Quarter March 1881 Prescot Lancs. Died Quarter March 1881

I've yet to find a marriage for James Hulse and Jane Wakefield so I don't know if they had any more children before Sarah Jane. With Jane Hulse nee Wakefield passing away in 1893 any other children would of been born before that year.
At the moment I'm trying to find out how many children they had as I'm sure they would of had more than three.

To complicate things further after James's first wife passed away he went on to marry again to another Jane (born Northwich 1857- died Northwich 1928). Her name on the marriage record was Noden but her maiden name was actually Walker, as Noden was her name from her first marriage.

I've found a child born to James and his second wife Jane Walker called:

Ethel Noden Hulse born Quarter March 1899 Northwich Cheshire.

Northwich is where James and Jane Walker married, (Quarter June 1898).

I know you have all worked so hard already for me and I'm so grateful, but I was hoping you might be kind enough to help me further with trying to see if James and his first wife, or even his second wife. may of had more children.

Thanks Gill
