Thanks - that's him I think!

Any record of wife or children?

Next on my never ending Colocott list are the children of Mary Ann Belina Colocott ( the sister of John, Arthur, James and Caroline). She married James A Allen in 1894 and had the following 4 children.

Raymond F Allen (1899 - 1918) Died in Kent and was in the army. Could he have been a war casualty?

Leo Vincent Allen (B 1901). I think he emigrated to Canada in 1922 but have no record of him since

Agnes Vera Allen (B1905). Possibly used Vera as her main name

Madeleine Belina Allen (B 1908)

Any information on where they ended up would be much appreciated

Perhaps a honeymoon?

Clive, with these families you are following (also Blackwoods) always worth a check in 'Search All Member Trees' (top right of page here, under 'Search') to see if any other Genes Members are sharing.

Not seeing a birth for son Raymond in England- perhaps he was born Canada?

EDIT- here he is- middle initial V not B (transcribed incorrectly on 1939 register):

First name(s) RAYMOND V
Last name ALLEN
Birth year 1923
Birth quarter 1
Mother's last name Nieto
District Birkenhead
County Cheshire
Volume 8A Page 931

So they didn't remain in Canada very long if they were back by 1923

Just adding to the CWGC info on R F Allen posted above by Chris:

CWGC states son of the late James Allen- however, James didn't die until 1923 (and the article above doesn't state 'late').

Austin .................

I believe that the information for CWGC was not compiled until after WW1, so it may well have been after James died, hence "the late ...."

Thanks All! More fantastic results

In the obituaries above it states that
ALLEN - November 18, killed in aeroplane accident, at Shornecliffe, in his 21st year. Lieut. RAYMOND FRANCIS ALLEN (l/6th Royal Warwickshire Regiment),
However, on the documents at the bottom of the link for the RAF Museum that Chis posted it says he died in France. Presumably he was officially declare dead at Shornecliffe

Also, on the last of those documents it seems to mention an Uncle in Canada. Can anyone read the name?

I'm struggling with Dorothea. I can see a Dorothea Mary Doyle death in Lancashire in 2001 but no record of children

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 4 Mar 2017 08:23

Clive- are you looking at the correct casualty card for Raymond? It say the accident occurred 'Home' not France-

The next is card for Richard Gerald Ross Allen says casualty occurred France.

I think the Uncle in Canada is for Samuel Hall Allen.

The contact details for Raymond say James Allen, Glenroy, Sunningdale Rd.

Several possible children for Dorothea and John on Freebmd.

Although no children are showing with them in 1939 there is a likely daughter born in 1938.

Thanks Chris - got it now!

Austin, that's really helpful. If I pay for the will, is it likely to name the beneficiaries? I'm surprised that you can do that for such a recent will!

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 4 Mar 2017 11:38

Clive, I can't tell you who would named in the Will- although if they'd had children I'd hope they'd be mentioned and not have left everything to the dogs home or local church!

Clive

Clive Report 5 Mar 2017 20:09

I doubt if anyone related to me would have done that! Thanks
