I am about to order Wilfred's birth certificate but I am unsure as to if he really was born in Belfast and if so how do I find the site for purchasing an Irish birth certificate?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 Jun 2014 14:55

Brenda, you can get the birth information via the link that Potty posted on the previous page.

Curiosity got the better of me so I did a quick search - it gives the mother's maiden name:

Registration number : U/1911/57/1007/95/306
Forename of child : Wilfred
Surname of child : Stott
Date of birth : 1st August 1911
Sex of child : Male
Mother's maiden name : Harling
Registration district : Belfast

Everything fits.

Oh, very well done Potty and MarieCeleste!! Saves curiosity killing us while awaiting arrival of the certificate.

So now we know for sure we have the correct parents for Wilfred. Brenda just needs the Stott / Hartling marriage certificate to checkout the father's of the bride and groom.

What the heck, I blew one credit!! I'd never seen these records before so it was for my own satisfaction as well to see what extra you got over the free search.

In addition to the birth details I posted above it confirms the parents as Sarah Jane nee Harling and father is Samuel Henry Stott. The birth was registered in sub district Belfast Urban 11.

I wish we could have a similar system here in England, only £2 to view the image (and you could always use the snip tool to copy it).

I think it's great too MarieCeleste. I have spent a few euros over recent years buying certificates for my Irish folk. Will have to check what I still need and get on to that site.

Brenda must be delighted with the outcome of this thread. It has certainly revealed several more generations to add to her tree.

Will send for Samuels and Sarah Jane's marriage certificate if I can find out where the wedding took place etc.

Brenda, we've thrown a lot of information at you!

The marriage for Samuel and Sarah was posted previously amongst all the other info, here it is again:

England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index, 1837-1915
Name: Sarah J Harling
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1910
Registration district: Halifax
Inferred County: Yorkshire West Riding
Volume Number: 9a
Page Number: 1018

Records on Page:

Samuel H Stott

(Have deleted other people who aren't relevant)

You can order the certificate on-line from GRO. Costs £9.25. There's a box to tick if GRO references are known - tick that because it refers to the district, volume and page no etc.

Hi to my community friends. Having received the marriage certificate of Samuel to his second wife I can confirm that his father was David Stott. Will be in touch again at the end of the month when I should receive Samuels first marriage to Sara Jane.
Kind regards

It was a pleasure to help Benda.

It's was also great to learn about the online facility for Irish certificates. I will use it to get some more info on my Irish ancestors.

Samuel & Harriet with her parents in 1851 - it is Harriet on the image:

Name:Samuel Stott
Age:25
Estimated birth year:abt 1826
Relation:Son-in-law
Spouse's Name:Marie A Stott
Gender:Male
Where born:Stainland, Yorkshire, England
Civil Parish:Stainland with Old Lindley

David Haigh 66
Martha Haigh 65
Luke Haigh 12
Samuel Stott 25 - Brussel Weaver - Carpet, which doesn't tie in with the occupation on the 1861
Marie A Stott 23

There is a tree on Ancestry which Harriet as Harriet Haigh and Samuel's parents as Moses and Elizabeth but has no proof.

Potty

Potty Report 30 Jun 2014 12:11

That tree could be correct - this 1841 is for Stainland (the place on the image is unclear but if you look at page 1 of the images it is for Stainland. The marriage cert would confirm:
