Pauline Report 20 Aug 2012 14:37

I am so sorry I have not been in touch for the past few days, but I have had problems with my computer and then my service provider has problems which made it impossible to get on the internet. I would like to thank everyone concerned for the huge effort everyone has made on my behalf, and because of all your hard work I now know so much more about my great grandfarther regarding his journeys to and from the USA. Also I was unaware of Mary Alice existance until you found her, and finding out that Charles married Martha in West Virginia was absolutely wonderful because I had tried to find her over the last few years but couldn't find anything about her. The information you pulled up regarding Charles Hodgkinson family and his twin Samuel has just verified the information I had found so thank you for this because you are not always sure you have the right information - just a gut feeling. I didn't know the details about his first marriage but I think that Emery might have been a stepson.
TW Hodgkinson born in West Virginia 15/114/1887 to Charles and Martha - do you think he could have died when Martha died? I do know that Minnie's mum Martha died soon after Minnie was born - could TW have died at or arround that same time?

Many thanks for your help

Pauline

Pauline - good to hear from you.

I am still not 100% convinced that Martha Roseana Griffith is the mother. What would clinch it or not would be to find her death.

Emery was Samuel's son from his first marriage i.e. a stepson to his second wife and son of Amy

Cissie is an interest - maybe no connection at all?

TW Hodgkinson - IF Charles and Martha are correct then he has to have died before 1898. But WHY can't we find births for Minnie and Charles Jnr?

Don't go off on the Martha route without some digging - the Maryland records are not available online but there is a contact email in this thread somewhere - try mailing them and ask if they can provide any evidence of births of Minnie and Charles and death of Martha Roseana.

Finally it would be so good to find a death for Charles senior.

Hi Pauline, I believe I may have been the first one to draw attention to Charles Hodgkinson marrying a Martha, but it was only a possibility to look into.

Having now seen that he claims to have been born in Edge Hill, I don't think these are Minnie's parents.

I'm not sure how you're going to find the actual parents. It looks as if birth registrations in Maryland only go back to 1898. Just one year out :-(

Can that be right? I may have misunderstood that. Does anyone else know?

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 20 Aug 2012 20:00

I couldn't find any birth registrations in Maryland online. On FHS you get

Name index to birth, baptism and christening records from the state of Maryland. Microfilm copies of these records are available at the Family History Library and FamilySearch Centers. Due to privacy laws, recent records may not be displayed. The year range represents most of the records. A few records may be earlier or later.

See MC's post 13 August

Don't know if the Maryland State Archives would be able to help:
http://guide.mdsa.net/index.cfm

They have all sorts of records and indices listed but nothing available to search on-line. They do seem to have a collection of Baltimore City birth records 1875 to 1972. There's an email address [email protected] that might be useful to contact to ask for advice.

So I reckon - Pauline - best advice is contact the ref@ addy and see if they have any advice on birth records for the children and death record for a Hodgkinson in 1897/8 that would pinpoint the mother
