Ok this might sound daft, but what evidence do you have to tie in the people we have found to the people in the will?

How sure are you these people are English and not American?

Tracey, I think Celia knows that the brother (who made the will) is her own grandmother's brother, and Laura Mary (or vice versa) was their sister.

I assume she's checked emigration records for the brother, or maybe the will is in her possession. ??

Celia

It's very clear we cannot find her, so you go further out and see if she pops up somewhere!

It's very unlikely he'd leave anything to a relative he was no longer in constant communication with.... and this makes her more likely to be in America with him?

His daft registration card states his brother James Ross was living in Texas in 1942.

Celia, it helps us get the right person if we get as full a picture as possible of the family. Just in case something has gone wrong along the way.

Celia

Celia Report 12 Mar 2010 20:15

my mother and her uncle inthis country received money
im wondering if she changed her name they hated their father

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 12 Mar 2010 20:16

I got the impression she only inherited because her father had died. I know nowt about the law regarding wills and certainly not in the USA (JANEY!!!!). So I gathered he had left money to his father (why would anyone do that?), and she inherited as his next of kin (one of).

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 12 Mar 2010 20:17

Hmmm good thinking MM, i do wonder then when did the father die?

This would indicate the age of the will?

Celia says her mother and uncle inherited. That sort of implies that it WAS left to the father, and by his will it went to his children, which sorts out the Uncle (presumably Ernie).

So I assume Celia's grandparents were dead, hence their money came down to the next generation, her mother. Does that sound right Celia? Don't answer if it is sensitive information, I'm not being nosey.

But I do know of instances in my own family where money was left to a specific individual (my mother) and she chose to dish it out amongst other relatives who weren't legally entitled, she just felt it was right.

None of that helps to find Laura/Mary and how she came to be a Jones - if indeed she did.
