Sandra, just looking at PMs I've received from you --

for births marriages deaths before about 1930, don't use the search facility here. As you've noted (I don't know myself) it brings up too much extraneous stuff.

Use FreeBMD.

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Ebenezer Kirkpatrick is a pretty unusual name.

FreeBMD shows a marriage 1846 in Wisbeach, a death (age 67) in King's Lynn 1881, a birth Jun quarter 1908 Grimsby and a death March quarter 1909 (age 0) in Grimsby.

Clearly, the birth and death in 1908 and 1909 are the same child.

And since there is no marriage for an Ebenezer Kirkpatrick, or birth of one of an age to be that EK's father, his father wasn't an Ebenezer Kirkpatrick. Unless he came from away already married.

There is one Kirkpatrick household in Grimsby in 1911 (I'll assume they're all in the same household):

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

KIRKPATRICK MARGARET 1879 32 Grimsby Lincolnshire
KIRKPATRICK JOHN WILLIAM 1905 6 Grimsby Lincolnshire
KIRKPATRICK THOMAS 1904 7 Grimsby Lincolnshire
KIRKPATRICK JESSIE B S 1902 9 Grimsby Lincolnshire
KIRKPATRICK ELLEN ANN 1910 11 MONTHS Grimsby Lincolnshire

At this point I don't know whether that helps.

There's no other Kirkpatrick death in Grimsby 1900-1920, so whether that Margaret was single, widowed, married -- you would have to pay to look at the transcript or image at the 1911 census site.

Oh, okay. How it helps is to show that in 1911, at least, there were no other Fitzpatricks in Grisby, increasingly the likelihood that this

Marriages Dec 1929
Kirkpatrick Jessie Toyne Grimsby 7a 1717
Toyne Arthur Kirkpatrick Grimsby 7a 1717

is your Jessie.

But really, the certificate is the only thing that will confirm that, and there's just nothing anybody else can suggest that will.

FannyByGaslight Report 22 Sep 2009 20:53

The marriage certificate will have his parents names on and his wifes.
It should be on Scotlandspeople if it was 1877.
Which is pay per view only.
1 credit to get the record and 5 credits to view the certificate.
£6 for 30 credits

Sandra

Sandra Report 22 Sep 2009 20:58

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 22 Sep 2009 21:00

It may still be on Scotlandspeople under Banns and Marriages.

You really need to have a look for it on there.

Same price if you find a likely one.

But free to search.

I have found a marriage for margaret kirkpatrick in grimsby in 1937,I wonder if this could have been the missing link I have been looking for,as margaret was married to ebenezer kirkpatrick before this date in 1901 ,her last child to Ebenezer was in 1921 I lost track of them both and wonder if maybe she was widowed and remarried ,has anyone any idea where she could have been living in 1937, Hope i am on the right track, but at least it is a lead ,regards sandra

This is the marriage that you have found

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marriages Dec 1937 (93%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kirkpatrick Margaret Richmond Grimsby 7a 1747
RICHMOND George Kirkpatrick Grimsby 7a 1747

If you buy the marriage certificate it will give you her father's name and occupation then you will know if it is the correct Margaret!

I'm afraid after all this time I've kind of lost the thread here, but for the specific question: you can search for the marriage at FreeBMD as we all can:

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

I searched for the marriage of a

Gribble
Ph*
to a
Mc*

and there isn't one. (Just a Philip Gribble to a McNeill)

Does your contact not have some facts about this marriage? Date, place; children? How do they know about it?? Is McClarren actually the spelling of the surname? It's kind of difficult searching for things if we don't have accurate spellings.

I forget whether there's a reason there is no birth findable for a Pheobe (Phoebe?) Gribble. Oh ... right ... Scotland?

Well, at Scotland's People there are two Phoebe Gribble marriages 1905 to 1930. Somebody is just going to have to pay to look at them, I guess! And there is one Phoebe Gribble birth 1885-1895.

The marriage info will give parents' names, so the person will be identifiable.

We don't know whether you have followed up on any of the other advice here -- specifically things to be searched for at Scotland's People. Credits there are really not expensive, but unless someone has some spare (mine have expired) it's something you'll have to do yourself!
