Nope, just didn't see it!!

have a little free time this afternoon, so just looking around!

It's 2 weeks today that we fly to NS, and then take the train all the way back.

I shall wave at various poitns across the country and hope that at least someone sees.

Oh how wonderful, Sylvia! I've always wanted to do that. Can't remember where you are, think it's west coast. Are you really going coast to coast?

Wave at various points ... now she thinks she's the Queen ...

Herself did love taking the train cross-country here, I understand!

Only herself and Sylvia could afford it, Janey. Jeesh, she must be a millionaire!

Margaret ... yep, from Halifax all the way to Vancovuer. It's actually 3 trains. Halifax to Montreal (overnight), Montreal to Toronto (day), and then Toronto to Vancouver (4 nights). Leave Halifax on Monday noon-ish, arrive Vancovuer about 7 am Saturday morning.

well, I said "various" points 'cos I don't know where you guys live, so I thought if i did every now and again, one of you might see!

Yes, it seems expensive, but if you look at it as a holiday with 5 nights at a decent hotel ........!

PLUS, if you are a senior, one of you gets to travel at half price (sometimes even less than that!).

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 14 May 2009 20:45

So, you wave at me on the Montreal/Toronto run and I expect the royal wave, palm facing your face. One never shows their palm to the common folk.

that could also be the one finger salute!!!

Well, we've kept the thread at the top of the board with our idle chit-chat but still no response from Jean!

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 14 May 2009 21:03

we did our best!

Although, ...................... the query was posted after midnight ....... so I wonder if Jean is a late person, or an overseas-er like us?

We, the overseers.

Very many grateful thanks to all the people seriously trying to help. I now have many more dates and names to go on. I now need to know which sibling of Edward married into the Philpot family. Does anyone have any ideas on this one. Note this reply is just 22 hours after my enquiry so a big thankyou for all your prompt answers.
Best regards
Jeanne

Any idea whether it was a boy or a girl who married a Philpot?

That will make all the difference, since it will determine what the kids' names were. ;)

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 14 May 2009 22:28

FreeBMD doesn't show any King-Philpot marriages ever ...

By the way, Jean, if you read the posts carefully, you'll see that the three of us who were kibitzing in your absence are the exact same three who were seriously trying to help, the only three who have posted in this thread.

It's wise to stick around a bit after starting a thread, because questions like we had will usually be posted almost immediately.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 14 May 2009 23:00

The only King/Philpot marriage on BVRI was Edward King & Elizabeth Philpott, 1818, Flamstead, Hertfordshire. I don't think so!

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 14 May 2009 23:22

Janey, my FreeBMD shows quite a few King/Philpot marriages but I can't see any that might be a sibling of Edward. (Note one T Philpot.)

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 14 May 2009 23:33

Jean, what info do you have that makes you believe a sibling of Edward married a Philpot? You must have something? Can you give us a family that we can follow back through the censuses?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 14 May 2009 23:37

'Your' FreeBMD ...

Yes, this would be because, now that I return to that tab and see what the result says, I searched for the marriage of King with given name Philpot. Must admit I was a tad surprised there were none.

Seems I'm doomed to make a fool of myself in this thread!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 14 May 2009 23:40

googling

bishop edward king philpot

I'm getting results where there are pages with 'philpot' that link to pages like the wiki article, but I dunno how to work that backwards ...

SylviaInCanada Report 15 May 2009 06:48

I do note that Janey's first response on this thread was less than 10 minutes after it was posted

....... and that I then set the other two on the correct path less than an hour after it was posted.

I also note that there has been no response since the crack at us for levity at 22:18 on the 14th ........... even though a very germaine question was asked, and the other two attempted to help without receiving answers to the question.

As at the beginning of the thread, that germaine question was asked less than 10 minutes after Jean's posting.

Not good!

Next time Jean, please try to stay around for 10 or 15 minutes and you might get even better help than you have received so far.
