Glen In Tinsel Knickers

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 26 Jul 2008 15:17

There is a chance that the fathers were still alive and the couple claimed to be 21 (and therefore avoid needing parental consent).

Based on the census returns given earlier Elizabeth seems fairly consistent with 1872 as her year of birth so she might have added a few months onto her age.

BUT;

There are two deaths that might be worth considering,

Deaths Mar 1892 (>99%)

Stuckey James 61 Islington 1b 226
Stuckey James 59 Whitechapel 1c 276

Hi Glen,

I think the first death age 61 would be the better one as in 1891 census was aged 60 and also Islington is where they were living att he time.

I tend to agree, looks like mum died not long after

Glen,

Thankyou for your help i will write all this down. So Daniel is James Father, i will look into finding more on him if i can but me and the census just dont get on at all. Have you come across James mum's name at all? As maybe as he had his dad living with him then maybe they were divorced or she has passed away.
Thankyou Glen your very kind.

Jo

Glen In Tinsel Knickers

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 26 Jul 2008 17:43

Hi again Jo

Daniel is recorded as father. To confirm it you would need the baptism record (James is a pre 1837 birth so there isn't a cert)

I will have a look for Daniel in the earlier years and post anything i find.

It might be that none of the things i have found are your family but at least if you have the details you know which to ignore next time!!!

Darealjolo

Darealjolo Report 26 Jul 2008 17:46

Hi Glen,

Oh ok, i thought they are my family lol. see im bit dim with all this.
Didnt know you cant get certificates before 1837 right?
Thankyou for looking about Daniel.

Battenburg

Battenburg Report 26 Jul 2008 18:05

You need to look at parish records for pre 1837 births. Try www.familysearch.org.
Look at the IGI ( International Genealogical Index)Extracted records are more reliable than submitted

Glen In Tinsel Knickers

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 26 Jul 2008 18:39

The next stage is to find the birth certificate for Elizabeth Jane, if that confirms that James and Leah are her parents then it will make finding the references for the family easier.

The census can be a good indicator but to confirm everything you need something a bit more substantial, eg certificates or church records. Assuming for a moment that the details posted are correct then at least you have a flying start to that side of the family.

As for your original question about the Fisher name, i think that must lie with Walter Isaac Jackson and his side of the family.

Darealjolo

Darealjolo Report 26 Jul 2008 19:56

Ok i will get Jane Elizabeth's birth cert but which of these 2 should i get as not sure.

Jane Elizabeth Stuckey
1872 Pancras
2nd qtr
1b 183

Or

Elizabeth Stuckey
1872 Edmonton
3rd qtr
3a 181

The second dosent have Jane in the name!!

Glen In Tinsel Knickers

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 27 Jul 2008 00:49

I think the best way forward is to apply for the certificate but use the checking point system

Basically you quote the year, quarter, volume and page number as usual but add the name of a parent. I might be wrong but i think the price goes up slightly from the usual £7, to be honest i have never tried a ref check but in a case like this i think it is worthwhile.

So let's just say you put Leah down as the checking point then if her name is recorded as the mother the cert will be issued. If her name isn't on the record then the GRO won't issue the cert and give you a part refund.

The main drawback is that the entry must be spelt the same on the cert as your application so if for example you put Leah but on the cert it is spelt Lear then they won't issue the cert.

Deciding which one is awkward, just on a hunch i would go with the first one you posted (Pancras). I would use Leah as the check point simply because it is a rarer name.

At the end of the day though the choice of which one and whether to add a ref check is yours to make but i believe it's your best option.

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 27 Jul 2008 13:50

There are two Daniel Stuckey deaths in the area, both born about the same time

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deaths Dec 1882 (>99%)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stuckey Daniel 80 Brentford 3a 47

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deaths Dec 1888 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stuckey Daniel 85 Pancras 1b 120

All i can say is that one of them is a Daniel who appears in the census and is consistently connected to Twickenham, the other one could well be the Daniel i posted census details for yesterday (time of the post was 18.31). He was born in Somerseat.

Regarding the birth certificate;

If the worst case happens and you have to order both then the "wrong" one isn't totally wasted, because there are two Stuckey familes in the area at the same time the information on the certificate could be useful at a later date.
