In reply to;
"Hi Glen,
Im confused now lol."

---

I think my post above (added at 10.30 this morning) should clear things up a little bit.

The 1892 death for James and the 1881 census showing him as road labourer fit nicely with the details from the marriage certificate you have. (marriage cert of 1892 says he is deceased and a road laobourer)

It looks very likely that Elizabeth is the daughter of James and Leah.

James is always a labourer of some description, Leah is always his wife and Elizabeth is always recorded as daughter.

The '71 and '81 census are in Pancras, '91 in Islington, that fits with the death details i have posted.

Because the '71 shows Pancras it looks like the correct birth certificate you need should be;

Name: Jane Elizabeth Stuckey
Year of Registration: 1872
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Pancras (1837-1901)
County: London, Middlesex
Volume: 1b
Page: 183

Personally i would order that one but add a ref check quoting Leah as the mother. It seems that for some reason the Jane part of her name wasn't used, she was probably known as Elizabeth but born Jane Elizabeth.

If it is the right certificate then the details i have put in the post give the family details back to the James and Leah mariage in 1860.

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 29 Jul 2008 00:04

2nd reserve

There is a second Stuckey family in London at the same time, father called Daniel and a son called James (he never married and his occupation is servant), they are NOT your family but the death index entries for them are at very similiar times to your James and Daniel.

If and when you come to order the death certificates use the references in my last post, these two are the ones you DO NOT want to order.

Deaths Mar 1892 (>99%)
Stuckey James age 59 Whitechapel 1c 276

Moody

Earlier in the thread i found the set for that family, as you get further back a Daniel Stuckey c 1803 appears (dad to James).

There is also another Stuckey family in Twickenham, dad is Daniel c1803 with a son James c1827, going through the Twickenam family it seems that all the bmd events for them are Brentford District.

I was going to post both sets of census and relevant bmd refs in consecutive posts but will have to leave it for tonight.

it might make it easier to follow if i add them in one place.

First one is Edmonton birth district and Edmonton Census district

Second one is Pancras birth and Pancras census district.

Is this the clue needed to clarify which birth cert required.

You should get the marriage cert of Elizabeth Stuckey to Isaac Walter Jackson. It will be interesting to see if there is a fathers name for Isaac.Possibly not.

Glen In Tinsel Knickers

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 28 Jul 2008 22:43

Going by the census returns i posted, and the deaths for James, Leah and Daniel it seems the family moved from Pancras to Islington reg districts at some point in 1892.
The '71, '81 and '91 census returns are all in the civil parish of St Pancras (not quite the same thing as the reg district though.)

So which one of these births looks likely?

Name: Jane Elizabeth Stuckey

Yes it is confusing when they keep changing names. My Darby grandmother married twice. I couldnt find her first marriage even though I knew her husbands surname.
It was only after I found out about her father changing his name I found her marriage. She married as Florence D Burden. When I got the cert it was Darby as middle name. Her second marriage to my grandfather gave her name as formely Darby which was the name on her birth cert

Margaret,

Out of the 2 births for Elizabeth, 1 in Pancras the other in Edmonton which 1 do you think is right to order, as i want to order but as my mum is paying for certs i want to get the right one.

Darealjolo

Darealjolo Report 28 Jul 2008 22:18

Ah i see. I thought coz of the dates it must be the parents but now i can see that Walter was born 1865, Elizabeth 1872 and they had a Daughter born 1899. Sorry to be a pain. Now i know where Fisher comes from.
Do you know the birth Ref for Walter please?
