You'll be needing to give some idea of dates.

Century, even? ;)

Dates, parents' names, anything else you got. Do you know the siblings names? You get all the words you want for one subscription fee!

So - my guess is born 1935, and I won't put the details here because this person and any siblings could be living.

From the GRO index at Ancestry, searching by parents' surnames and registration district, that Edward appears to have one sister.

There are numerous others with the same surnames in the vicinity, timewise and placewise. So he could have other siblings, or the person born in the same district might not be a sibling.

Google

he'll be listed in some reference book or other, and if you're lucky, it will show his family/parents/siblings

Oh. You mean that when I assumed his name was

Edward King Bishop

and he was

of Lincoln

I was wasting my time?

Oh, for a comma or two when someone desperately needs it.

... Yuppers.

Oh that's funny! I read it, too, as Edward King Bisop of Lincoln. Of course , that's what it says when it should be Edward King, Bishop of Lincoln.

Even after that, gave it a shot, but can't find him in 41 or 51 census to see any siblings. (Per wiki, born 1829 in Kent, father Walter ...)

You got 'im nailed down.

Now, what comes next is where Jean says "thank you, I knew all that" and she's looking for what became of the siblings whose names she knew.

Oh, I'm too cynical.

Anyhow, the only thing for it is to search the censuses for each one, starting with the brothers, by their name and birth details.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 14 May 2009 11:42

Oh don't say that, Janey!
However, I fear you might be correct.
Thought there might be a response by now.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 14 May 2009 19:33

............... or even by now!!

it's funny you two .......... I didn't even notice the absence of the comma, and immediately assumed that Jean was looking for a one-time Bishop of Lincoln!

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 14 May 2009 19:36

Oh, smartypants Sylvia! You got a crystal ball?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 14 May 2009 19:36

You're just a carefree illiterate at heart, Sylvia!

... and the Canadian contingent chatters merrily away ...

But hey, I managed to misread his father's name at wiki, so pay me no heed!

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 14 May 2009 20:11

Did you misread that, Janey? I just assumed that they had mistranscribed it. Didn't think a Canuck could misread anything!
Hey, when you see a man's name Wal*er, any intelligent person would assume Walter and not Walker.
