Shirley Ann Report 15 Dec 2005 08:54

A while ago my son had terrible head injurys do to being attacked in the street, he had a thriving business at the time, but with out my son to run it, it got into finacial trouble, my husband and i decided to take out a very large loan to keep the business going and his employees in work, so he had something to go back to when he recovered. Unfortunately he took well over a year to get anywhere near to that and was not able to work for sometime, therefor he went bankrupt, we never burdened him with the fact we had taken out this loan, but we were in a mess, so the only alternative was for us to sell our home and pay off the morgage and that loan, which we did, left us with very little change. the buyer of our home agreed to rent us the house for a year, which is up in April 06. the council , who i have worked for for over 13 yrs won't house me as i do not have enough points as my children still at home are 21 and 22. So if i don't come up with £1500 pound deposit for private rent and find suitable private rent by April, i too could become Homeless. So you see it can happen to anyone of us. Shirley Ann.

Shirley As one door closes another one opens. Seek advice from you local CAB.on how to deal with this situation. Can one of your children whose at home (or both) get a job and help pool the cash for the deposit ? You have four months to raise the cash between you., it can be done if you pull in your belts. Good luck, I hope you have a happy outcome Elaine x

Elaine, i actually run a homeless centre so i know where and who i need to contact, and my point was that homelessness can happen to any of us. And ther isn't enough hours in a day for me to take on another job. DAAH. Shirley Ann.

Shirley Ann, it seems so unfair when you do so much for others. But I do feel that your son should have been told about the loan, if he finds out now he will feel dreadfully guilty. Although i can see that you didn't tell him for all the right reasons. I hope that somehow you come up with the money. and, as you say, it could happen to any of us. Ann Glos

Shirley, are you not entitled to anything under the criminal injurys compensation thingy?

Shirley Ann Report 15 Dec 2005 11:50

Any money that had been claimed on behalf of my son would have been taken by the receivers to reduce his debt. The reason we never told my son is because he has suffered enough, he was very depressed for a long time, he is still up and down. and it really don't matter. its only bricks and mortor after all, He lost his wife and family through this, so in comparison what we lost was nothing. i would do it again if i had to for anyone of mine. We will be fine, i shall start looking for a house after xmas, I shall look upon it as a new adventure, theres people far worse off than me in this world. Shirley Ann.

indeed it can happen to any of us- if you sons are still at home and are in employment, then i guess the council are right in not housing you, i guess they think a house full of adults should be self sufficient. Is your own employment paid?

hi shirley i am so sorry hun,but as everyone else has said, miracles do happen. last year we were in great financial difficulty.so much so we were in the process of having our home repossessed1 the building society wouldnt listen and wouldnt agree to us paying it back a bit each month. i was so worried.we had been in our house for 27yrs and i love it. hubby tried every thing he could to save the house and he succeeded:) we remortgaged with another company. ok ,instead of a £32,000 mortgage which would have finished in 2yrs time ,we now have a £100,000 mortgage. because of the repossession threat we couldnt go to a high street lender so we are paying a very high interest rate. in another years time we can go back to a high street lender which will reduce our monthly payments. and ive still got my home, which i love dearly.it has a sentimental value as all of my babies were born here aswell as my grand daughter. i do hope everything works out for you hun.which im sure it will take care love susie

The son that had the problems is my eldest and he do not live with me, my 21yr old son as an apprentice draughtman, My 22yr old daughter is finishing her degree , but is working at the same time trying to pay off her student loan. And yes i am in paid work but its a very low wage i certainly don't do my job for the money. I am not worrying over this ,as i said we will be ok hopefully, I just wanted to make a point really, to say , see it could happen to even the likes of little old me. Thank you all for your kind words everyone. Shirley Ann.
