We use to go on the sand Jane when son was little ,but i'am not keen on getting it between my toes now ,i have to be near a tap so i can wash my feet !!
There were people having a swim ,even though the sea was on its way out ,and lots of people with dogs that you could see had been in the water .

Talking about sand in your toes Mandy. When I was very young ,my next door neighbours Miss MacFarlane and Miss Jackson would take me off to the seaside sometimes to give Mum a break ,and they made up a song about Sand in your Toes that we used to sing on the way. They knew I hated sand in my toes lol.I wish I could remember the song.We would rumble along in their old car with a picnic and have a wonderful time. They were Lesbians, but I don't think my parents realised that back then. They were lovely ladies and gave me my first cat called Peter.

Oh sitting at the table for hours until I had eaten my broad beans!!!!!!!!!!
I hate them still today.I used to pick the skins off them and put the skins on the side of my plate. Then try and hide the beans in the mash
Mum saying think of those poor children in Africa having no food.It didn't work with me.I can still see me sat at the table gagging on those blasted broad beans lol.Not being allowed out to play until I cleared my plate, and my friend waiting on the door step.Me eventually going out with red eyes after crying so much after swallowing those beans down whole so I didn't have to chew them.
I never put my children through that .

I would never eat tongue either. When i said i had finished my dinner my mum would say "just eat your peas" and I would. Then she would say "eat a little of your potato" and I did. I never had much meat and always ate that first. Even when I was 18 and still at home I only ever got two slices of roast meat.

When I first married in 1969 I had £5 house keeping. 10 bob was spent on a sunday joint and all the rest of the stuff I bought came out the rest. I had a laundry man come every week and used to pay that out of the housekeeping as well. I only had the double sheets done as I could'nt manage them. They were cotton twill sheets and very heavy when wet and me being 5' 2" we did'nt mix!!!

We had a greengrocer call and a parafin man. I had two parafin heaters inthe flat I lived in when first married. Mum and dad owned the house and I had the bottom floor and a friend of mums son and his wife had the top one. We paid £4 a week rent. Oh and the milkman called too.

You can also keep eggs longer if you paint them all over with egg white. It is only a matter of keeping the air out as the shells are pourus.
