Mel Fairy Godmother Report 12 Mar 2021 09:36

Morning Anng and all,

Another day of rain and bright spells but the wind hs dropped here too which is good.

Nothing planned for me today either so will see where the day takes me after the usual daily challenges.

How sad that David should die so soon after T. Do you think when this is all over you will start the group up again?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 12 Mar 2021 10:05

Yes Mel, once we are able to meet again all the U3a groups will re-start. We have kept contact with group emails throughout.

Annx Report 12 Mar 2021 10:49

Morning All,

Alternate sun and dull here, not sure which will win, but not very warm.

That's an interesting idea Mel and should be effective.

What a shame another of your group has died AnnG. Did he have a wife who belonged to the group too? It will be good when your group can start up again.

I have had an email about the lecture talks at the hospital going ahead but online now. I've signed up and the first is by the lead person who set up the vaccination centres at the 3 city hospitals. She will also answer anything people want to know about the vaccinations.

I have been looking at Boots glasses online but there aren't many that I like. I thought it might help if I narrow down ones to try with all the disinfecting they have to do now after you try a pair. If they decide my cataracts need doing it might not be worth getting any yet though, depending how bad they are and how long the waiting will be. The last pair I had a year ago hardly made any difference.

It's leftover bits in the fridge with more Turkey in a cook in sauce in a risotto today. I need space for the food drop on Sunday.

I must also unpack the new router and look at the instructions and find out when they will switch us off!

I hope Mandy feels a bit less tired today.

Tesco was 15 minutes early so nearly all done now, just having a rest before going the meat as it need splitting for the freezer. No subs and

Yes Ann, David's wife is also a member. The trouble is, the only email contact address I have for both of them is his, I have reluctantly used it but I am wondering if she is not computer literate. I will have to wait and see if someone answers. I do know they have children but not sure if they are in the area.

I had my mother's day present this morning. a 'hamper' with two fruit scones, two plain scones, cream, strawberry jam and ginger fudge having put on 5 pounds since T went into hospital I will start the diet on Monday.

Frank Report 12 Mar 2021 11:59

Good morning to you all,

We have just had a visit from Martine and Brian with their ALSATIAN Max. What a big dog he is, He couldn't settle, so they have taken him home.

I had another bad night, pains in my back and down my right leg. I was up a SIX and now feel ready for a NAP.

Weather is cold, but dry. I think we have been promised showers later in the day.

Brian also has a scooter, so he said he would come over one day,and we could go out together. We could go unto the Football Club, so Max could have a good run round the fields.

I hope you are all well, please take care if going out. See you later. xxxx

Another windy day here and quite cloudy. I'm still not used to it being so windy so when we plan the garden we'll have to plan it carefully so we're not in a wind tunnel.

We've had the gas around today to do the dead/live test and it's dead so I've rang Cadent to do new pipework then we'll have someone put in a gas metre outside. Once that's done we will have a boiler put in so we can have the central heating done and the gas cooker connected. It'll start to feel more like a home then. It's going to cost a lot with the gas being dead but on a positive we'll be able to extend our bathroom by about 5 foot so can have the double walk in shower we wanted installed.

I'm going to try and find a phone number for DVLA now as I'm having no luck online trying to find the page I need to change the address on our driving licences and if it's not done soon we could end up with a £1000 fine each which we can do without. I've still not heard back from any of the builders I've left messages with so I need to try and find another one now.

I'll try my best to catch up with the posts when I'm not so busy, I hope everyone is okay.
Take care and keep safe <3

Sunshine and showers all afternoon so far. Have to pick my time to go out to the girls.

Just popped on quickly to say hallo. I seem to have been chasing my tail for the last couple of days. I can’t understand why I’m behind with everything as I should have lots of time to do things.

I hope you are feeling better today Mandy.

Love your pen and ink picture Ann though I have to stand well back from it. If I look at it too closely the dots move about and I feel migrainey..

I’ve just been laughing at a couple of goldfinches clinging on to opposite sides of a feeder which is being flung all over the place in the wind. They look as though they’re on a swingboat at the fair, as first one side goes up, then the other. They do look funny.

Right, better go and see what my casserole is doing.

Evening all,

I'm about ,i'm now beginning to feel back to normal after feeling so tired you would have thought i had run a marathon ,arm is still sore .

Ann who would have thought you could do a picture with just dots its really good i like it ,we have a cowl like that on our chimney .
Yes it was the astrazenica one i had .
Oh poor OH with another infection, bet that wasn't on his birthday list ,i hope with the antibiotics and ear drops it soon clears up .
Step away from the Truffles :-D :-D

AnnG thats sad a U3A garden group friend has passed away ,if you hadn't read it in the paper you might not have known until you all met up again .
Maybe they didn't like to email you with you only just losing T .
The hamper sounds nice ,didn't you have one last year or am i dreaming that one up :-)

Frank that will be good if you can go out on your scooter with Brian ,it will help to have some one who has been using one and can give you some tips .

Thats good you know where you are with the gas pipe Gill you can now get the gas connected and get the boiler in .
Hope you've managed to sorted with the DVLA today, any luck with a builder yet .

Hope you've managed to catch up with yourself Vera :-D it's been very windy here my table cloth blew off the line and onto the garden luckily it was just about dry so didn't get dirty .

DIL was telling me when she walked home from work the other night she had to stop and help a lady who was having heart palpitations ,she rang for an ambulance and was told it would be forty to forty five minutes ,the lady calmed down and bit and then she took a turn for the worse again so DIL flagged a car down to help her ,she asked the chap if he would ring the ambulance again while she looked after the lady ,he got back in his car and drove off !!!!
Two ladies stopped to help and then an off duty police woman stopped then the ambulance turned up,and the chap who drove off came back so perhaps he went home to ring for the ambulance but he never said he had ,i told her she had done her good deed for the day ,its a bit frightening when some thing like that happens and your on your own .

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 12 Mar 2021 18:50

Poor lady I hope she was ok. DIL was good to stay with her, well done her. I know if anything like that happened to me I would want someone to stay with me.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 12 Mar 2021 21:35

Well done your Dil Mandy, hope the lady was ok.

Pleased you are feeling better

Yes it was sad to read about David. I have been in touch with his wife today she seems ok but the funeral is not until next Wednesday.
Yes you are right she bought something similar last year, not quite the same but last years would have been too big for me on my own.

Annx

Annx Report 12 Mar 2021 21:52

Glad the effects are starting to wear off Mandy. Too late...........the Truffles are gone and he shared them with me. They were M&S ones, but there were only 7 of them so we had to break one in half! lol. That was lovely of your DIL to stay with that poor lady. Palpitations can feel horrid and scary so she would be really grateful someone stayed with her. OH can't take his reflux tablets with these antibiotics and says he can tell already so will probably be sleeping sitting up for a week while he takes them. I think if he has the last one each day well before he goes to bed it might help.

Your hamper sounds yummy AnnG! Yes, enjoy it and start the diet on Monday! :-)

Vera I can quite understand the migraine effect of that picture......a bit like some of those black and white patterns on cloth!

Mel we had eggs on toast for tea today.

Gill it will be good if you can get the gas reconnected again soon and the meter put outside on the wall. As you say with extra space in the bathroom you can have a big shower that I would like too. The people on the site I told you usually get back to you within a few days.

I think we are going to leave this (much bigger) router swap till later next week. As soon as you swap it they contact you to switch your broadband over to it. We both have meetings and courses till Thursday so it's best left till then as we don't want switching off in the middle of something. They say the engineer will ring to let you know, not discuss when is best for you.

Off to bed now, sleep tight everyone.

Gillx Report 12 Mar 2021 22:26

I'm very late coming on here today, I've been so busy with phone calls and had to help Sandra again as her phone isn't working, hopefully it'll be sorted for her soon as she's not a happy bunny at the moment. She messed it up trying to put some credit on her phone and pressed the wrong thing, now it looks like she has no sim card so M&M have organised a new one to be sent to her. She's not happy about that as Michelle pretended to be her and is sending it to her shared place where anyone can get hold of her sim. She said she can't go out now and will have to keep an eye out for the post as it comes through the main door along with everyone else's. Apparently Sandra doesn't have her own letter box.

The dead/live gas check came back as dead so I'm almost £1000 down in the bank now as the bill for the new pipework was paid today, the surveyor will be in touch soon then the work can begin, they'll have to dig our front garden up to put the new pipes in so we're hoping they might be able to dig what's left of the pampas grass roots up as well. We can only ask can't we?

Now we know the gas metre is going outside we can extend our bathroom. I'm looking forward to the day we can have the bathroom extended and have a double walk in shower. I've always wanted one but OH prefers a bath so we'll have the best of both worlds. Mind you I'd love to have a soak in a hot bath right now with this place being cold and the cheap shower the electrician put in for us is useless. It's better than nothing though as it's the only source of hot water we've got, but it's not as nice as a bath or a power shower. I just hope we'll have enough money to have it done sooner rather than later with all the other jobs that need doing first.

I've finally changed the address on our driving licences and the log book for the car, just two more calls to make tomorrow to some insurances we have, then everyone will have our new address.

I rang Sandra's solicitor as I'm helping Sandra buy her flat and the paperwork for her to sign is being sent today. I did say OH could go and pick it up but they said no I pushed a bit more then they said it wasn't ready yet, so I think they may post it on Monday and not today as they said. We'll find out tomorrow as they said they were posting it first class. As soon as it arrives we'll make arrangements to meet up with Sandra so she can sign it then we'll take it back to the solicitor's for her.

I still haven't found a builder yet as I didn't have time today. I was on the phone more today than I ever was when I worked in an office lol, but at least everything's almost done now, then I can concentrate on trying to sort workmen for all the jobs we've got to have done.

I'm very tired now so will be off to bed shortly. I haven't slept very well this week so I'm hoping I'll sleep better tonight. OH isn't working tonight so that should help as I'm more relaxed when he's here. I'm still not used to being here on my own at night.

Sorry I still haven't caught up with all the posts and hope everyone is okay.

AnninGlos Report 13 Mar 2021 08:32

good morning all, showery here but quite bright and very windy still. Probably be like yesterday which was not too bad and I was still able to get out to take the bags down the road.
I was awake early so got up and have given the bathroom a bit of a clean.

One of the problems with getting rid of all those shirts is the number of hangers I am left with. Not sure what to do with them, I don't think charity shops want them these days I will have to ask the lady where I take my stuff.

Ann I bet you really enjoyed those truffles, even the half :-D
Good idea to leave the router until you have some free days.
Hope this lot of antibiotics clears up G's problem with his ears. Is it affecting his hearing? Might be difficult with zoom meetings if it is.

Gill, you are getting there. Just take it slowly. Sandra will get there with her flat as well. I think the reason they would not have the forms collected for Sandra to sign is because most of these places are not having face to face meetings, not having anyone go into their offices because of covid. even the funeral directors had to make special provision for us to go into the office (because of my hearing problem).

YEs shared flats are difficult for things like post. Not very safe for having credit cards etc posted.

Well now you have paid for the pipe work (is that to your gas provider) I hope they get it done soon. Unusual to have to pay up front for things like that.

Morning AnnG, morning all,

Still windy here I woke in the night and heard it blowing .

Gill I don't think they dig your garden up now like they use to ,they use a mole ,they
dig two holes one each end and thread the pipe through.

AnnG not sure what you could do with all the hangers ,I'm sure some one might want them once the lock down is over .

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Mar 2021 10:34

Morning Anng and Mandy and all you others,

Still windy and wet at times and very grey too then it gets brighter for a while and then it rains again. In the night when I went to bed the rain or hail was hitting the bedroom window with gusto and making such a racket I thought I would never drop off but I must have.

Up the shop for the paper this morning and a few bits and then I am going to give the fridge a good clean out as it needs it.

Not sure what you can do with your hangers but I would try the charity shop anyway. They may be very glad of them or put them out for others. Our shop in Holsworthy puts two big dumpy things outside with thing people can take for free so perhaps your shop may do that.
