Frank Report 28 Aug 2010 11:06

Morning all,
It all seems to happen when I am not around to keep an eye on you lot.
"My bums numb, mum" that a good old one. That;s how Jane must be feeling this morning. She should buy the "Granny" type slippers, much safer for "OLD FOLK"

Glad you saw Mars, MEL, I didn't, too cloudy around here. You others thinking it was a prank. How dare you !!!! As if I would misslead you,!!!!Not good news about your visitors Mel, As you say, its bad enough that you have to do all the work to prepare for them, but then not to turn up. Words fail me (not realy) !!!!

Home alone again, All showered and shaves and nowhere to go. Might walk up club to watch Match 12.30. Arsenal.

Bright blue skys wuth fluffy white clouds, lets hope it stays. The Green Thum# came yesterday so can't cut grass till Mon/Tues. If it's dry enough.

Plenty of Beans and Toms. Cues are a wash out. Only one and thats are green as grass. Won't bother next year, we only give them away. Will try a few peas instead. Planted my Christmas Pots last week, Had to go out and buy more soil yesterday as they are starting to show already.

Are you off to the coast over the weekend Mandy. bring us back a CRAB.

Maureen

Maureen Report 28 Aug 2010 13:00

Are your toms red then Frank, mine are still very green, didn't get any peppers or courgettes, shan't bother next year.

Little Alfie is getting a bit too boisturous (sp) for Coco, he's jumping on her and keeps pouncing on her tail, she doesn't quite know what to do with him, she has given him a few swipes to put him in his place, but he doesn't get the message and keeps chasing her, the more he runs after her the more she runs away from him !!!! Oh dear, and it was all going so well. Oscar only comes in to eat now, and he hisses and growls at Alfie.

That's a real nuisance Mel when you are expecting visitors and they don't turn up. I'm still waiting for my son, he said he would pick me up and go over to his house to do a bit more work. I'm still waiting. Is it an age thing. or it might just be me, but I can't bear to be late, get in a real panic .

Jane, how are you feeling after that nasty fall. My foot is still a bit painful after 4 weeks.

Maureen

Maureen Report 28 Aug 2010 13:06

Had a little wander round the boot sale this morning, couln't spend too long as foot starts hurting. I got what I went for though, a pet carrier for £1.
and a lovely baby blanket for Alfie to go inside the pet carrier, 50p and it's John Lewis. Might as well make him comfortable I've got a feeling we'll be using it quite a lot.

Afternoon All,

Jane.......be careful!! It is quite a shock when you go wallop like that and bang your head. Hope your derriere isn't too bruised. Typical OH...wanting dinner first. lol Mine would have said he needed his eclipse glasses on too. lol I used to trot up steps decorating and up the loft ladder in mule slippers, but don't anymore after a few narrow misses. Round here Age C*ncern have been giving out new slippers for the over 50s if you bring your old ones in!! Not sure what style they are though!! OH said he had a good mind to get some as his are disintegrating all over the house.

Oh Mel, how disappointing your rellies didn't come and didn't bother to let you know. My sister can be like that and its the not letting you know that is annoying. She forgot my and even her own son' s birthday a week later this year. When we arrange to go out she often sends me a 'running late' text. Still, you have a nice extra clean bathroom.

I can just picture Alfie and Coco Maureen.......he has to learn not to treat ladies as playthings, hasn't he. Coco will have to give him a bigger swipe I think before he takes notice. Still he must be feeling good if he is that energetic now.

OH is doing the football report to Radio Leicester again today and maybe on Monday as well. The wife of the chap he is covering for is terminally ill in a hospice now and in a coma I think. Very sad, 2 children age, 8 and 11 will be losing their mum.

Afternoon all,
Sunny but a bit windy today ,washing got a good blow .

Mel ,its a bit naughty them not letting you know their not coming, had you bought lots of food in for them ?

Jane ,hows the bumps and bruises today ? are you black and blue ?

Fiona , little Katie has a good grip too, sometimes if Chelsea gets to close she pulls her hair , she's a mummys girl if DIL goes out of the room she looks round and if she carn't see her she'll start crying ,and you carn't calm her ,as soon as DIL walks back in she's all smiles again little monkey !

Sorry Frank no Crabs this weekend,we don't usually go to the coast on a Bank Holiday weekend as it's a devil to find a parking space and we're lucky as we don't live far from the coast that we can goat other times .

Maureen , it sounds as if you have your hands full with little Alfie lol
I can just see them chasing around after each other , its when they shoot up the curtains and sharpen their claws on the furniture you need to worry lol

We're still trying to sort out the loft ....we've only got two old Metro car seats up there !!!!!! i think they were from the car that we bought son when he first passed his test ,he wanted different seats in the car so the others went up there ...he's been driving now for fifteen years,so thats how long the seats have been up there ...why did we keep them !!!!!!

There's one of those Electric Clothes airers up there too ,i can remember using that to dry sons Terry Toweling Nappies !!
Some where in the loft is sons old L*ggo ,he had boxes and boxes of it ,Jake carn't wait for us to find that !!

Annx

Annx Report 28 Aug 2010 13:52

What bargains Maureen!! It is a nuisance when you can't plod as far as you'd like isn't it. No point in pushing on though, make it worse.

Well, the sun is out so I better enjoy it while I can. I think I am off to a garden centre I haven't been to before up the motorway and towards Derby. I still have some garden vouchers and need a few more evergreens ready for the back garden.

MillymollyAmanda Report 28 Aug 2010 13:52

There you go Jane, send Ann your old slippers and she'll get you a lovely pair of those check ones with the Velcro strap LOLOL

BIL had a new pair of slippers and their dog pulled the inner sole out and chewed it up so he cut up a piece of old carpet and put that in!!! LOL
My sister was not amused and soon put them in the bin .

Thats so sad Ann , two children just at an age when they need their mummy .

Jane

Jane Report 28 Aug 2010 14:54

Hello you lot !!
Well I went to Wait***e earlier to get some things that I can only get there.Saw some slippers .Thought they look ok,but then I saw the price........£40 !!!! I don't think so lol.I will stick with my sandals for now.The dangerous ones are in the bin.My bruises don't look too bad,but have some swelling on my arm.I felt very achy when I woke up this morning, even my neck and a thick thumb.I think I must have put my hand out when I went down.Hey Ho! I won't be doing that again in a hurry.
Velcro straps indeed Mandy! Huh !!

Hands full with Alfie then Maureen lol.Any more pics?
How sad Ann those little children about to lose their Mum.Life is a Bit** sometimes isn't it.

My bum is fine Frank .Chris only gave it a quick glance lol.As big as ever was his comment !!!.Rude man .
It looks like it has just started to rain ,so Chris is putting away the hedge cutter. He has done a sterling job this morning. He also picked a good pound of Sloe Berries. They are in the freezer now ready to be made into Sloe Gin.

When I was down at Fitz's the other day he showed me a letter he discovered written in 1906.On the envelope it said only to be opened by ****on my death.I read the letter and it is fascinating It was to Fitz's Father's Mother, and it was from her Guardian.
I will try and type it all out for you all to see ,but I need a long time to do it.I may have to do it in stages.Maybe I will do it tomorrow.I think this Guardian was possibly her Father!!
Fitz photo copied it for me.

Hi all,
It looks like I am back to the 1780s on my Fathers side of the tree. Got to get back when I was related to the Duke of Bedford !!!! Then you can all bow to me.

Jane

Jane Report 28 Aug 2010 16:41

I'm bowing already Frank lol

Annx

Annx Report 28 Aug 2010 17:45

Have to make do with a curtsey Frank. lol Careful what you wish for......you might be related to one of US!!!! lol,lol You could be a cousin umpteen times removed.

You did well to get those Metro seats up in your loft Mandy, our hatch would be too small. Your son could be like the Top G*ar programme and put them in his lounge to sit on. lol

How fascinating for Fitz to have an old letter like that Jane. I don't even have any letters written by my parents. Looking forward to reading it.

I found the garden centre and it had some good quality plants but was quite small. I got a nice red potentilla to replace one OH forgot to water when we had weeks of dry and a few little evergreen hebe, like cushions. It poured with rain while I was there, but no sign of rain at home!!

Jane

Jane Report 28 Aug 2010 18:53

I have a bundle of letters Ann that Mum and Dad wrote to each other. They are in what I would call a writing case.Tied with a ribbon.I have had a peek at one or two,but feel it was their private letters so I won't read any more (even though I want to ) lol.
Our loft is just about empty now .We had a skip and ditched a load of stuff from the loft and the garage.Loft still just about empty ,but the garage is filling up again lol

gerrybear Report 28 Aug 2010 20:31

What a great subject for a thread! I remember - Cremola Foam, crystals which you disolved in water to give a (temporarily) coloured fizzy drink.

Original large Jubblies - big strange-shaped orange ice 'lollies' in a cardboard packet. The freezers in shops had huge blocks of solid cardice (solid carbon dioxide).

Third of a pint bottles of milk, which we were made to drink at school. One of those left out in the sun put me off milk to this day! The smell of milk still makes me heave.

About the computer scam - we had a similar call, and my husband said, "And what computer would that be then?" Put the caller completely off his stride! Lol!

Jane

Jane Report 28 Aug 2010 20:45

Hi gerrybear. It's a great subject isn't it.Those bottles of milk at school .....if they got warm smelt of sick .In fact a lot of smells from Primary were a bit sicky.I have said it here before, but that mop and bucket that went around the school smelled like that
The smell of Plastacine (can't spell that),reminds me of primary school.
I loved primary school except for the smells lol

Fiona

Fiona Report 28 Aug 2010 21:36

Evening all
Hi gerrybear, I remember those horrible bottles of milk in a metal crate delivered to school every morning always were left by the class windows and yes stunk when they got to warm, we drank ours through a straw I think.

school toilets ,I hated them , always smelly and cold. I remember in high school the girls toilets were outside and it was a nightmare going to the toilet on a cold winter snowy day trudging across the playground and when you got there no toilet paper. and the smell of smoke as there was always someone who had been having a fly cig during break time.

Just been watching the Proms great, I don't usually like the music on the proms but this was a whole show of musicals written by Rodgers & Hamerstine(Sp) had the whole family singing all the songs.
we missed the first 45mins unfortunatly , I'm hopeing it will be on catch up tv tomorrow,
It's gone really cold now and we had to put the fire on while we were watching tele. Autumn is on the way I think Brrrrrrr.

well I'm off to get a shower & wash my hair so I am ready for church tomorrow it's the last week at the church with whom my church might be emalgamating with next year. glad I'm back to normal routine next sunday.

Hope you all have had a good day. and JANE hope you are feeling a little more comfortable after your fall.

Catch up tomorrow afternoon
night nightxxxxx

Jane

Jane Report 28 Aug 2010 22:01

oooh I don't like to think about the old outside toilets at school Fiona. Those horrible wooden seats and the tracing paper toilet paper lol.Yes they were freezing in the winter weren't they.Never spent long sitting out there .
On that happy memory I will go and use my nice warm loo and go to bed.
I feel much more comfortable now although my arm is still a bit swollen and bruised.
Night Night all.
David.I'm sorry Ralph is not too good.I hope he improves soon.He has been through an awful lot.
Good luck too with your biopsy at the dentist. What are they taking a biopsy of?
