I don't know what to say Fi.
My father died a couple of years ago and his brother was handed his WW11 medals which included a Mentioned in Despatches Oak leaf.... I so wanted them for my son.
He, my uncle , phoned me to 'explain'....that he had given them to his own son!!!
Yeah right... he then goes on to tell me that he was off at the weekend for a wee holiday in Scotland at the weekend!
God forgive him... such a hurtful thing to do to me.
I know EXACTLY the pain you are feeling.

Looking forward to seeing what it is, enjoy it, whatever it is.
Best wishes,

IT IS HERE!

The item I brought from ebay is an engraved gold pocket watch which belonged to a Great Grandfather. It was given to him by his employees in 1923 for long service of 15 years. It was presented on what would have been my birthday had I been living then. It states his name, and his employees names. I know it is his as I have him on the census working for this company in 1911. I also have his and his wife's death certs which states his employment. They died in 1933 within a week of each other.

Great Grandfather and his wife died in 1933. I dont know where the children lived after this event in their young lives. My Grandmother was 13 when her parents died.

I love it!!!

Now there is one more thing you need to do. (Although the persons who had the watch before you may have). Take the watch to a reputable watchmaker and have it cleaned and serviced.

I know it is an added expense but the watchmaker should be able to tell you the history of the watch, and give you information about it, as well as tidying it up for you.

We just had an old clock repaired and the information which came back with it was quite surprising.

I too have been following this, so glad you were able to purchase it. Saw the pics on FTF...... looks lovely and well worth you having to pay full price for it to have it back in the family where it belongs. xx

Fi,

Wonderful! Is this watch from your Lincolnshire branch?

Elisabeth

(Kathleen - yes, I think Fi is the Fi and Angel of those long ago days.)
