Forgot to add this earlier.
I am not a big meat eater at all infact I could quite happily live without meat in my diet. I do eat Chicken and a little fish occasionally.

I love my vegies though and Broccoli, Brocciflower, Cabbage, Cauliflower and Sprouts are my favourites. Sorry but I just wouldn't survive without them. What would I eat? Carrots, Swedes and Turnips and most vegies I like but I must have my greens.

Any suggestions anyone apart from throw myself in the Ocean lol
(only Kidding I love my life too much)

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 1 Feb 2009 06:04

Fascinating thread, folks, I am waiting for results of blood tests taken last Tuesday. I have had numerous tests due to being TATT and other symptoms, always comes back ok with my doc saying I am ridiculously healthy, but my hair is thinning even more than usual - my Mum always had thin fine hair and mine is the same but she was never diagnosed with thyroid problems altho was diabetic - late onset into full blown after her first heart attack. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome already, and irritable bowel syndrome too. At the mo seem to have irritable bladder problems as well so back to docs this coming week.
I love sprouts and broccoli tho :>(( no swelling or anything like that tho.

Will keep reading this and let you know what my results say.

I too can't remember if it works that quickly Ray. But the fact that you are feeling better is good news in itself. So maybe in your case it did.

Sometimes talking to other people with the same problems helps also. Not worrying so much about the problem makes you feel better in yourself.

Happy you are feeling a lot more energetic.

Fairthorn
My mother had a Goitre neck (Derbyshire Neck) funny she was born in Derbyshire too. I never knew it was called that so you learn something every day. I was only small when she was diagnosed with it so it would have been in the late 40s probably. I know she was supposed to have it operated on but refused. She always said she didn't want anyone cutting her throat. Funny thing is she lived with it for many years. She died when she was 75 years old. She had a lump that looked like an Adams Apple on her neck. We often commented on it that's why I know the story. Sometimes it was more prominant than other times which was rather strange. But it never got to the stage where she couldn't breathe as I have heard reports of. Just looked like a very large Adams Apple. She did take Iodine I believe.

Doctor told me Thyroid Problems can be Hereditary also

Kind Regards to you all

Jackie

OOO Ray , it's like going to Lourdes and getting the cure !
In about a month you should notice an improvement in skin and nails, it does take a little while,to work its way through your system, and if cutting back on the greens helps well its a small price to pay.

Brocolli is no longer your friend !!!

FAIRTHORN

FAIRTHORN Report 1 Feb 2009 02:00

It is very important to keep taking the tablets BUT if you forget do not take MORE than the daily doseage.

Derbyshire Neck, also called Goitre, is a swelling of the thyroid gland and is now known to be caused by lack of iodine. It is almost unknown today because iodine is added to drinking water. In the eighteenth century no-one knew for sure what caused it. Some thought it was hereditary in particular families, others that it was caused by living "on the bleak sides of hills."

POOR Marty Feldman............untreated hyperactive thyroid.

Too much radiation etc after Chernobyl is one theory for the increase in sufferers !!

In babies and children, the thyroid gland is one of the most radiation-. sensitive parts of the body.

THE ONE PLUS IS NOT HAVING TO PAY for Prescriptions !!!

You're welcome, Shimmer and Ray... I still think I have an under-active something, lol... but that will have to go on the back burner for a few more months yet.... but the people on that site gave me the info I needed and the support... therefore the courage... to demand the full works, as far as blood tests were concerned. Although I didn't get picked up for thyroid... I was picked up for very early Leukaemia, which wouldn't have happened but for those folk on that site!! A few more weeks and it would have been too late for me.!!

Take care, and take control of your treatment!

Love and good luck

Daff

Just wanted to (((hug))) you, this is the best site I've ever seen.

Goodness, half the veg I love is classed as Goitrogenic foods. Also beginning to perhaps understand why my Thyroxine doesn't always work.

Bless you and Ray for this thread. xxx

Hiya Ray... hope you don't mind me adding... I thought I had underactive thyroid last year... I had post-partum hyperactive thyroid, which cleared when my baby was about 6 months... and this is often a precursor. My nan died from complications from hers (treatment is different now).

As it turned out, that wasn't my most pressing problem at all, lol..... my most pressing problem was very new and wouldn't have accounted for the symptoms I have had for a fair few years.... I still don't know what caused those.

Good luck, everyone.. and try this site, it was excellent.

Oh bless, thank you Lindsey ... yes, I know lots of people with both versions, many of us have a foot in both camps so to speak.

As soon as I was diagnosed I was onto the web; can't look back sadly as I know nothing really about my family.

Never mind, there are those with worst probs. xxx

Morning shimms, this thread should be called 101 things your doctor wont tell you !
Tina used to eat sprouts raw, and piled on the cabbage, real cravings !
Yes the ummune system too also slows down recovery, still theres lots of info on the web, and lots more people who have it than we think.
Where better than a family history board to find out about illnesses. check out the old family photos, see who,s the relative most likely to have passed it on !

Morning Ray, everyone

Lindsey, am particularly interested in broccolli and sprouts which I tend as they are 'green' veg. Thank you, will google, had no idea they could slow my meds down; also the part about colds taking longer to heal.

This is what I adore about being here, that we share and care for each other.

Hi Ray
Like a lot of the others and yourself I too have an Underactive Thyroid
I have been taking Thyroxine for about 6 years now. At first my doctor couldn't get my level correct so I had different doses for the first couple of years with blood tests every three months. It took a long time but now I am on 100mg Monday to Friday then 50mgs on Saturday and Sunday. The levels seem OK now so I only have blood tests 2 times a year now

The Doctor told me that the Thyroid controls most of our body so if it is either overactive or underactive it can upset lots of our other parts of our body. Headaches, Weight Loss, Tiredness, Itchy, Forgetfulness and many many more.

I hope the tablets will help with your problems I am sure it will
Take Care
KInd Regards
Jackie

Hi my daughter was diaznosed (sp) with underactive when she was 12 years old, had a small lump like an Adams apple and went to GP. he got some blood tests done, spent a week in hospital.
She was falling asleep when she came from school, freezing cold lack of consintration.Dr. told her it was a Hashimoto type.
Put on thyroxin has to get it checked every year, at first every three months.
Four of my sisters had it also.
