Hi all

Just been to the doctors for the results of last weeks blood test,
He has told me I have an underactive Thyroid, so it does rather explain some of the symptons that I have been feeling,
he asked if there was any family history of Thyroid, but there is
none, He has prescribed me with tablets for the condition,
I have googled this subject, but wonder if any of you have any
first hand knowledge/facts on this condition ?.

Many thanks

Ray

Your tablets should help you, what amount of Thyroxin do you have to take a day.

Two blood tests a year too to monitor it, I'm norti ... terrified of needles, am well overdue (not saying how long here lol!), have to go have another one, promised my Doctor.

~~ waves to Amanda 2003

Is she losing lots of hair Amanda, it was when I mentioned that during conversation that I was sent for a test; tis very very hard to diagnose it. xxx

No, tis new to me too Hayley. When I was diagnosed I was asked if there was a history of it in my family, told it ran down the female side of the family so warned every female I could think of.

Men do get it ... wish I'd known, I have a son, brothers, nephews ... xxx

Ray, it does getter once the medication is inside you.

Found a good web addy from the BBC,not too complicated, gives the symptoms. We have hypothyroidism.

Mine aren't working at the moment tis why I am zonked, have to have the blood test, every box is ticked because I'm so frightened lol!

Rashy itchy things are a pain , sometimes a steroid creams helps.

My daughter met her half sister for the first time at Christmas after 30 years, and they soon discovered they both had thyroid trouble, so we can conclude it is passed down .?

Hi Mo, Lyndsey

It is hereditary Lyndsey, the doctor told me. xxx

I get itchy legs Ray, can't believe I'm saying that on a public board, am very ladylike lol! Tis horrid itching.

Your friend sounds like he has hyperthyroidism, tis an overactive thyroid. My friend has the same with her eyes, bless her.

Why wouldn't guys get this Hayley, they have thyroid glands too, its what controls the pace of our bodies...

My friend has it, and since she had her diagnosis she has taken on a new lease of life...before treatment she was so sluggish

my lovcely OH had it and it is an insidious thing that takes a long time to recognise - it made him a different and difficult person to live with - once diagnosed though and with Thyroxine he was soon back to his old self!!!!
