Sue that sounds great the Steam Fare I use to go to one when I lived in Ealing but I cannot remember where it was I know there were Caves and they were called the Devils caves and at the top of the hill was a Tomb where familiy memebers where buried it was surrounded by iron railings. we use to go there a lot when my children where little I remember it was called Priness Risbourgh not sure I have spelt that right.

Shelly I hope your feel better soon you have over worked on your programme thats what it is. you need a bit of spoiling.

Are you thinking of The Hell Fire Caves at West Wycombe?

Have already been to a few country shows and 2 steam rallys already this year.

Have managed a couple of National Trust properties too. Waddesdon is expensive, but as we are members we got in for nothing

Have washed the lounge curtains so wait for the rain to come. Have dropped the hems too as they only just sat on the sill after being dry cleaned last time. So have taken a chance and washed at a low temperature. Might have to go out and buy new ones if they've shrunk too much !!!

Enjoy your afternoon

Yes Linda you clever girl thats them. the Steam engines use to have a show every year and we all went they had tractors so old shone like diamonds they had been care for so well. I wonder if they still hold them there. That Hill I could run up then now DONT THINK I COULD CRAWL UP IT.

The one I went to at the begining of July was at Prestwood near Great Missenden. Not sure if there is still one at West Wycombe. Will try to remember and ask a "steam buff " friend the next time I see him Rita. His Roller is out of action this year as it needs a new boiler/ fire box? ............ cost over £5,000 , his wife is putting a block on him spending so much on a hobby she has no interest in.

Rita found this about the caves, but doesn't seem to have steam fair now

West Wycombe Village and Hill, take the A40 to the west of High Wycombe.

Lovely old village with cottages and inns dating from the 16th century. You can walk or drive up to the hill, which has great views across the Chilterns. The Iron Age hill-fort is now the site of a church and the Dashwood Mausoleum which stands out for miles around. There is free parking at the top of hill and in village. The car park on the hill locked at dusk. National Trust properties West Wycombe Park and Hughenden Manor are both nearby.

That Mausaleum use to attract a lot of tourist even then which was in the late 50's early 60's we use to go in our old Ford Anglia car and take a picnic with us. the kids loved those caves but I can undertstand them being closed now. I have some photos somewhere of that Mausaleum my kids use to say it was a bit errie.
Shame they dont have the steam fare there now then. it use to attract a lot of people.

Mo I think that was the Barrack Lee said he was going too he is in the REME been out in Afganistan and South Africa .
you sound like you had a good olf time when those Naval and army blokes where there. I lived in Willesden near cricklewood and we had Americans Poles, Canadian and Austrailian station all around there and we all use to go to the Palas in Cricklewood
was you asking about Sues surname ? as some of my mothers cosuins had that name and Sue and I was trying to find out if they were hers.
