Jeannie I am soooo excited lol. I will message you later cos I want you to find any existence anywhere of the two girls you found baptised at St Giles:)

Hayley, I ain't even had a telling off for a couple of weeks:)) I'm just finding it a bit boring on here lately, else so sickly sweet and nauseating, I am overcome with syrup and can't breath...

And before anyone says anything, yes I know anyone can post whatever they like and if I don't like the threads I should add something I find interesting blah blah blah

Well you should have more, Joy. I love Hardy.

Morning Gwynne:) Jude is heartbreaking isn't it. There was an excellent and suitably grim film adaptation of it with Christopher Ecclestone and Kate Winslet. As much as Hardy gets me miserable, I do love the tragedies. Think The Mayor of Casterbridge is my favourite - I like all that relentless wheel of fortune stuff:)

BC, no-one could accuse Hardy of being like stuck in a vat of pink blancmange;)

I don't have many bookshelves ... :-)
and have even had to rationalise the books that I do have, because of you know what.

I love the countryside of Wessex.

Uggers Report 14 Sep 2008 11:14

You must get rid of others, Joy and make room for Hardy;)

I'm off now before everything gets all huggy and lovey and life affirming and makes me bilious...bye bye

I love Hardy, and I love 'his' Dorset (where a good number of my ancestors hailed from). We did 'Mayor of Casterbridge' for O-Level. I read 'Return of the Native' recently and loved that. Much of his poetry appeals to me too.

Uggers Report 14 Sep 2008 12:02

Sheila, I think that's the only novel I haven't read yet - must get round to it:) I wish I had some Dorset ancestors but I haven't got any:( I am a fan of his poetry too.

Sharron Report 14 Sep 2008 13:01

I ws just wondering if any of you had read 'A Shepherd's Life' by W.H.Hudson. It is not a novel but more a collection of articles, one about Salisbury and the television series 'Bread or Blood' was based upon it.

my fave is Far from the Madding Crowd, absolutely love it and the film is fab too. I suppose it is probably one of Hardy's cheeriest novels lol. will be watching or taping Tess tonight.
