Do you mean for WW1? If so, you need to go to the documentsonline site.

Val, I think we need to start from scratch here. Frederick Henry George was your grandfather and you know he served in WW1?

What definite information have you got about him please? You have your parents birth cert which gives him as the father and who did he marry? When was his eldest child born and where? Do you have a marriage certificate for him?

Heather

Heather Report 17 Dec 2007 21:33

Is this him on docs on line? Have you paid £3.50 to download this record if it is him?

Im afraid I cant see a man with this name on the ancestry pension records which is a shame so lets try to work backwards through the info you have to find him on census etc.

Can you answer the above questions please about the info you have for definite?

Val :~) from West Wirral Report 17 Dec 2007 21:56

hello Heather
We never knew him!! he was my Dad and Aunts Father.
My aunt was born in 1925 (update 1924) and Dad in 1927, my Aunt remembered a tall man when she was tiny but nothing else and their father was never with them once Dad was born.(he is named on birth cert.)
Their mother (Lilian George nee Watt) told them he came from Oz after fighting in WW1 then came over to Manchester met and married her, my aunt believed they wed in London!! (have no date or wed cert)
sorry Im not a lot of help
Val

Is that medal card above him then and have you downloaded it for £3.50? Is that why you said machine gun corps? (Though he is in two diff reg there and 2 different ranks.

So where was your aunt/dad born? What are your aunt and fathers names. And are there any other kids? And do they know when he died?

Val :~) from West Wirral

Val :~) from West Wirral Report 17 Dec 2007 22:07

yes I believe that to be him Heather!!
he was in the Machine Gun Corps,
My Aunt is no longer with us,her children dont know any more than I do.
My Aunt and Dad were both born in Manchester.
We dont know if something happened, (could have done a runner or died) with him not being around after dad was born!! but Dad always understood his father died sometime in 1927 after Dad was born!!!
Hope you can understand all that??
Val

Heather Report 17 Dec 2007 22:13

We need to find the marriage between Fred and Lilian. If we find that you can buy the cert for £7 from GRO online and that will give both of their fathers and their fathers occupations. From there you can work backwards.

Ive just looked at 1924 - through all quarters there is nothing on there. Just looking at 1925, nothing so far.

Heather

Heather Report 17 Dec 2007 22:19

1924 No
1925 No, but Q4 missing
1923 No
1926 No

Im beginning to wonder if they married Val.

Anyway, I really must shoot now, OH is ill and I have to take the dogs out as they are scrabbling at the door.

If anyone else has find my past can you check Q4 of 1925 please for a George/Watt marriage.

Val :~) from West Wirral

Val :~) from West Wirral Report 17 Dec 2007 22:19

I have to admit Heather Ive been unable to find a marriage myself!!
But will be fantastic if you can
Lilians Mother was Helen Stewart Watt
But have nothing at all on Fred

Heather

Heather Report 17 Dec 2007 22:21

Is Lilian scottish? - The mothers name would indicate that? Was the mother married or was her maiden name Watt?

Val :~) from West Wirral

Val :~) from West Wirral Report 17 Dec 2007 22:21

It does make you wonder!!
Suppose she could have just taken his name, as she was always known as Mrs Lilian George
