Sorry but I'm back again. What does anyone think of this?

Annie (Blake?)

Married to Thomas Judge 1859 from Sheffield
1901 census says Annie was born in Retford
Marriage says they were wed in Basford
Basford is a suburb of Nottingham
Retford is near Worksop
There is a family of Blakes listed on FreeBMD in Basford
I can find no connection with Retford other than 1901 census
FreeBMD says they were wed in 1887
They were in USA between 1883 and 1889
They were in Sheffield for 1881 census

Do you think I've got the wrong person?

Heather

Heather Report 1 Nov 2007 23:46

Sorry, could you put the 1901 infor on for them? Probably me getting old but Im trying to follow how you got them going to and from the states? Are the children shown as born US?

You dont seem to have bought any certs?

Creamcheese

Creamcheese Report 1 Nov 2007 23:50

I know from my own family that they went to USA and familysearch has confirmed that with the birth of their first 4 children appearing on 1880 USA census.

Thanks Claire - Im thinking possibly 2 wives here too.

Can you see them in 81? Cream cheese, Im sure its all really clear to you but we dont know anything about these people or their history, if you could put on the census info etc it does help people to follow (even when they arent as old as me!)

Creamcheese Report 2 Nov 2007 00:04

Thanks Claire and Heather (by the way, I didn't mean she'd had her children by 1880, that was when she went to USA) This is def the right person. But 1891 is saying she was born in Pulford and 1901 says Retford. All I need now is her maiden name. I'll go and search Pulford area now.

Heather Report 2 Nov 2007 00:06

Creamcheese, if you look at the image of the census it actually says Lincolnshire, Retford on the 91. I still cant see them in 1881 though ? Can you put it on here for us. Im beginning to think this Annie is a second wife possibly - see the 5 year gap between the kids? Of course they may have lost a couple of kids in that period but something isnt quite right.

Creamcheese

Creamcheese Report 2 Nov 2007 00:09

Heather - no they were in USA in 1881 and appear on USA census then. How can I send you their info? Do you want to give me your email?

Heather

Heather Report 2 Nov 2007 00:10

Ah right, didnt you say they were back in Sheffield in 81?

Just checked - yes you did! LOL, no wonder I couldnt find them.

As I said the 91 transcription says Pulford but the actual image - check it out - says Retford for annies place of birth.

From this Annie was born in 1864/5
You say she had moved to America by 1880
Sarah the eldest child was born USA
I'd say there's a ggod chance that the marriage took place in America.

To me the only way forward is to get one of the children's birth cert to find out Annie's maiden name.

Creamcheese

Creamcheese Report 2 Nov 2007 00:12

They were back by 1891. Any ideas on searching for her maiden name - I've just tried freebmd and got nothing

Creamcheese

Creamcheese Report 2 Nov 2007 00:13

Hey Claire - I hadn't thought of that! Thanks

Heather

Heather Report 2 Nov 2007 00:15

Right - so they werent actually in Sheffield in 81.

And the 91 says Annie born Retford if you look at census image.
