Many thanks, Steph, Nicola Helen and Jane

Thats great info I will try to finish my checking too and hopefully some possibilities have emerged- I had forgotten that you can send off for certs with checks!

Sorry took so long to reply - unexpected visitors and I so wanted to get back and search

I've now done 1927-1932, whilst there are loads in Birmingham N and S. Your friend was registered in Birmingham so I think we need to concentrate on this post 1924 and Aston and or Birmingham prior to this.
The only one registered in Birmingham is Norman as pasted above

Best Wishes

This looks quite likely as it is registered in Birmingham the same as your friend not North or South just plain Birmingham same as his. I have just spoken to my dad and he says Aston is central Birmingham so I like this one!! It is handwritten at the bottom

1927 3rd quarter

Bailey Norman S or J M Bailey 6d ?734

To narrow it down a bit here are births in Aston where the maiden name of the mother is Bailey (it's only possible to search up to 1920 unfortunately - it's from the familyrelatives site). Some of these are probably to unmarried mothers but perhaps one of them is your friend's brother - maybe Leonard? You probably know that you can send off for certificates where you put in conditions so you don't waste money sending off for ones with the wrong parents.

BAILEY Alice F Bailey Aston.6d 739 3 1917
BAILEY Alice F Bailey Aston.6d 739 3 1917
BAILEY Annie V Bailey Aston.6d 659 4 1918
BAILEY Leonard Bailey Aston.6d 822 4 1918
BAILEY May Bailey Aston.6d 822 4 1918
BAILEY Olive G Bailey Aston.6d 539 4 1917

Hope this helps a bit

Hi again Kaz,

Just a thought, if you can locate Joseph's death and your friend did not register the death perhaps one of his siblings did and then you will get a name.

What are your thoughts?

Kind Regards

told you I was no good at geography and I was right. Mind you I wasn't sure where Aston was either.

Nicola Report 23 Sep 2007 20:16

Oldham is on the East of Manchester. The last bit before you get to the pennines and cross into Yorkshire!!

Steph

Steph Report 23 Sep 2007 20:12

Ok have found that Aston was changed to Birmingham in 1924. So I have now found the right one.

Dec Qtr 1932
Ann Bailey aged 39
Birmingham, vol 6d, page 422.

Do you think Joseph remarried?

Steph

Steph

Steph Report 23 Sep 2007 19:56

Are you sure that she died in 1932?

There are no deaths in 1932 in Aston or for an Ann the right sort of age.

That Ann was the only one.

Steph,

Would love some help. I am working backwards from 1932 and Kaz is working forwards from 1921. Births need to be Aston or Birmingham.

Not the right Ann as Oldham is up north somewhere I am not very good at Geography.

Hi Kaz & Jane,

Would you like some help trawling the records?

Is this Ann's death details? I'm not very good with geography so presume Oldham is nearby?

Sept Qtr 1932
Ann Bailey age 38
District Oldham, vol 8d, page 680.

I don't want to duplicate anything so I'll see if I can find Joseph's death.

Are you looking for another marriage for Joseph?

Steph

Kaz in a Tizz

Kaz in a Tizz Report 23 Sep 2007 19:35

Hi
The marriage was at the Registry Office in the district of Aston in County of birmingham (from cert) Witnesses were Alice Bailey and Joseph Bailey,

Birth of my friend also Aston. Last known address in 1946 of father is 3 Belmont Passage, Lawley Street Aston.

Thanks Jane

Victoria

Victoria Report 23 Sep 2007 19:24

Can you clarify where the marriage was registered and where your friend's birth was registered, please?

Many Thanks

Jane

Hi Kaz,

It will be hit and miss if you are uncertain they remained in the Aston area, I just thought if we based it on that and ruled it out it might be easier. The other thing is to go to a Library and find out where the adults were on the electoral roll for specific years prior to the birth of your friend. This may help with where children were born.

It is going to be quite difficult as you don't know siblings names

No magic answers I'm afraid but I will try and search later for you from 1920-32 off to put the kids in the bath now.

Best wishes

Jane

Many Thanks Jane

My friend was born in December 1932 and his mum died two weeks later. The marriage was 1917. I thought I would start with the christian names John, Joseph, William and Henry! I have done bmd up to end of 1921, so need to soldier on there and would it be a good idea to stick with Aston first?

Yes Jane, Joseph married an Ann Bailey at Registry office - seems there might be a link with the families but can't see it yet!
