Kaz in a Tizz

Kaz in a Tizz Report 23 Sep 2007 17:35

Hi All

I have been trying to help a very dear old gentleman to trace his 'lost' family and I have been able to do so through his parents going back in time. Have his birth cert. his mum and dad's marriage cert. and have located his father on the 1891 and 1901 census.

However, my problem is the bit about coming forward in time - we know he has/had a brother born probably between 1917 (marriage) and mother's death in 1932. Who apparantly served in the Navy in ww2. And a last known address of his father in 1946. My friend was in a home then evacuated and lost contact.

Where should I go from here? I am inexperienced at this part and unfortunately don't have a christian name for the Brother!!
I would really appreciate any advice

Thanks

Kaz :o))

HI Kaz,

Is this research local to where you live?

I have been able to come forward with some lines in my tree by visiting the archives. Some records can be as recent as 1970.

Even found hubby's baptism on there lol...that was a bit weird though

Hi all and Thanks

I have searched on GR but no luck yet! His father's name was Joseph Bailey b c1889 and his mother Ann bailey b c 1894 in Birmingham. They married 4th August 1917. Je's father is William and mother Mary, anne's father is joseph.

I am not local to archives at the moment - but can get there but am thinking the brother could have a family name as my friend does.

Joseph's siblings are Thomas Henry and William John

Thanks

Yes Jane, Joseph married an Ann Bailey at Registry office - seems there might be a link with the families but can't see it yet!

These are the records I can find for Aston from 1911-1920. Can you tell us when your friend was born?

Many Thanks Jane

My friend was born in December 1932 and his mum died two weeks later. The marriage was 1917. I thought I would start with the christian names John, Joseph, William and Henry! I have done bmd up to end of 1921, so need to soldier on there and would it be a good idea to stick with Aston first?

Hi Kaz,

It will be hit and miss if you are uncertain they remained in the Aston area, I just thought if we based it on that and ruled it out it might be easier. The other thing is to go to a Library and find out where the adults were on the electoral roll for specific years prior to the birth of your friend. This may help with where children were born.

It is going to be quite difficult as you don't know siblings names

No magic answers I'm afraid but I will try and search later for you from 1920-32 off to put the kids in the bath now.

Best wishes

Can you clarify where the marriage was registered and where your friend's birth was registered, please?

Hi Kaz & Jane,

Would you like some help trawling the records?

Is this Ann's death details? I'm not very good with geography so presume Oldham is nearby?

Sept Qtr 1932
Ann Bailey age 38
District Oldham, vol 8d, page 680.

I don't want to duplicate anything so I'll see if I can find Joseph's death.

Are you looking for another marriage for Joseph?

Steph,

Would love some help. I am working backwards from 1932 and Kaz is working forwards from 1921. Births need to be Aston or Birmingham.

Not the right Ann as Oldham is up north somewhere I am not very good at Geography.

Best Wishes

Are you sure that she died in 1932?

There are no deaths in 1932 in Aston or for an Ann the right sort of age.

That Ann was the only one.

Steph

Steph Report 23 Sep 2007 20:12

Ok have found that Aston was changed to Birmingham in 1924. So I have now found the right one.

Dec Qtr 1932
Ann Bailey aged 39
Birmingham, vol 6d, page 422.

Do you think Joseph remarried?

Oldham is on the East of Manchester. The last bit before you get to the pennines and cross into Yorkshire!!

Steph
