This sounds a really complicated life! Yes, get the birth cert and then go from there.

Hi, His christian name is George Edward, he was born 11/01/1937 in Warwick. She did have someone living with her so my grandad remembers a George Charles Dyas.

You can apply on line for it. it will cost £7. It should tell you date of birth The name he was given (christian name) name and surname of father - may or may not be filled in name, surname and maiden name of mother name of he person that registered the birth, who they were to the baby, and their address and the date that the birth was registered Jess

It seems very likely to me that your Maria never married. Do as everyone suggests and move backwards and you will find out! Unless any of you guys can find the marriage? HI JOANNE - yes, there is part 1851 on ancestry - a sample, not terrific but there.

Hi Sorry, i have been on the phone to my granfather trying to see if he has any info he may have missed out. I know i need to start from the earliest event which would be my grandfather. He has just told me that he always believed he was born in coventry and his surname was turner, until he needed a passport he found that coventry had no register of his birth. He later found out from his mother he was born in warwick. After applying for a new Cert he also found that his name at birth was Rushton and that he had been celebrating his birthday on the 10th instead of the 11th. He never knew who his father was and his mother never told him. Now she is dead i guess he will never know. My family just has to many skeletons i think.

The Bag Report 17 Feb 2005 12:22

laura, I appreciate that someone has told you how to keep your thread at the top of a page, but why does it need to be there? There is quite a bit of info on the thread - what is it that you want to know or someone to do for (or with) you? Jess x

I know this sounds patronising but just click on 'add reply' and type in ...Nudge. It sounds so obvious ! Once the message has moved up.......go to your *nudge* message + delete it.

Laura Report 17 Feb 2005 09:57

Thanks Aann, could you please tell me how i nudge myself up the board. Everyone is doing it and i don't know how. Many Thanks Laura

Ann

Ann Report 17 Feb 2005 09:46

I have nudged this up the board laura, in case you missed the replies.................once a page on the board is full you can find your *threads*(messages) by typing in the text box .*help for a beginner*, this will bring up all related messages. OR you can go through page by page, but! that's time consuming. It's daunting when you first start........just take a step at a time. Ann

Hi Laura could not find a birth registration for Lilian M Rushton April - June quarter of 1910 but found one for July - Sept quarter 1910 Lilian M Rushton Wolverhampton 6b 555. If she was born in the May normaly they register the birth upto one month later. As there isnt one for May June 1910 this has to be her also the registration district is Wolverhampton Staffordshire so the family had to be living in the area. the 6b 555 is the number you need for her birth certificate. Hi, Im pretty much a newbie myself, been doing this only a year. The biggest lesson Ive learnt is dont take short cuts, its not worth it and be prepared to pay for your research by getting subs and paying to look up birth, marriage and death references and buying certificates - it is much more satisfying in the long run. Yes, you do get a lot of shocks, Im back to 1550 on dads side but its the nearer people that shock you. Just found out last week my grandad was married before he married my nan. My aunt totally refused to believe me until I showed her the image of the certificate! Good luck.

Hi Heather, Thank you so much for all of your info it would have taken me so long just to find all of what you have found. It certainly looks a bit strange i think i am going to have to ask my grandfather a few more questions and hopefully will be able to work this out. He seemed certain enough but then again things always turn up when doing this sort of research don't they, or so i've heard. Anyway i will certainly use all of your superb advice and again i would like to Thank You so much for helping me.

In 1891 in Shropshire, the only 3: Rushton, Maria 24 Shifnal, Shropshire / Salop Servant Bushbury Staffordshire Rushton, Maria 30 Clunbury, Shropshire / Salop Wife Wolstanton Staffordshire Rushton, Maria M 16 Dawley, Shropshire / Salop Daughter Dawley Magna Shropshire (This one right place, right name, wrong age? to be married to Bernard) Anyway, this is the rest of the HUGE family which you may want to keep for a while in case you find a connection later: 1891 England Census Viewing records 1-30 of 30 matches « Global Search Results Name Age in 1891 Birthplace Relationship to head-of-house Dawley Magna Shropshire Rushton, Arthur 44 Dawley, Shropshire / Salop Head Dawley Magna Shropshire Rushton, Arthur 18 Dawley, Shropshire / Salop Son Dawley Magna Shropshire Rushton, Eliza O 5 Dawley, Shropshire / Salop Daughter Dawley Magna Shropshire Rushton, George W 19 Dawley, Shropshire / Salop Son Dawley Magna Shropshire Rushton, Harriet 3 Dawley, Shropshire / Salop Daughter Dawley Magna Shropshire Rushton, Jabez 12 Dawley, Shropshire / Salop Son Dawley Magna Shropshire Rushton, James 8 Dawley, Shropshire / Salop Son Dawley Magna Shropshire Rushton, John 13 Dawley, Shropshire / Salop Son Dawley Magna Shropshire Rushton, Joseph 17 Dawley, Shropshire / Salop Son Dawley Magna Shropshire Rushton, Maria M 16 Dawley, Shropshire / Salop Daughter Dawley Magna Shropshire Rushton, Mat 14 Dawley, Shropshire / Salop Son Dawley Magna Shropshire Rushton, Pomila 44 Wellington, Shropshire / Salop Wife Dawley Magna Shropshire Rushton, Richard L 6 Dawley, Shropshire / Salop Son Dawley Magna Shropshire This Maria Rushton must be connected to the above lot from the 1871 census: Name Age in 1871 Birthplace Relationship Civil Parish County/Island View Image Frederick Deakin 9 Dawley, Shropshire, England Grandson Dawley Shropshire Adam Rushton 15 Dawley, Shropshire, England Son Dawley Shropshire Arthur Rushton 12 Ketley, Shropshire, England Son Dawley Shropshire John Rushton 13 Dawley, Shropshire, England Son Dawley Shropshire Maria Rushton 53 Dawley, Shropshire, England Wife Dawley Shropshire Mark Rushton 55 Wombridge, Shropshire, England Head Dawley Shropshire Mark Rushton 17 Swinton, Yorkshire, England Son Dawley Shropshire Noah Rushton 2 months Dawley, Shropshire, England Grandson Dawley Shropshire Pember Rushton 22 Dawley, Shropshire, England Daughter-in-law Dawley Shropshire Sophia Rushton 9 Dawley, Shropshire, England Daughter Dawley Shropshire Perhaps its me feeling too dopey tonight, but I have to say I cannot find a Maria Dunn right age. Are you sure that Maria actually married a Bernard Rushton? Or was that her maiden name? Night for now, hope someone may come up with something better for you!

Heather

Heather Report 16 Feb 2005 22:54

Laura, I cant find a pair that fits. You are absolutely sure his name was Bernard? I can find a 30 year old Maria Rushton married to a Robert Rushton in 1901 or a Mary Rushton in Shifnal where the above lot where but her husband isnt a Bernard. Of course doesnt mean they arent there just not where I am sleepily looking! Most of us have a sub with ancestry which is £70 a year and allows access 24/7 to part 1851/sample,1871,1881,1891 and 1901 censuses. You can pay to view thte 1861 on 1837online - ancestry is supposed to have it on there in May. There is FreeBmd where you can look up births, marriages and deaths but they are not yet complete records and may not be for some years and volunteers are transcribing them. On familysearch website you have free access to incomplete bmd and also the 1881 census. Why dont you go to the familysearch site now (if you are still awake) and have a go at finding these two on the 1881 census when Maria would be what 1-11 years old and Bernard the same? It will be good practice for you to try out the 1881 and look at the other features on a free site first. Sorry I couldnt find them. Probably it will be best for you to start getting certificates because that is the only way to be sure and satisfied your research is 100%

No, nobody seems to know anymore than what i have already. I think i am going to have problems already. Your findings have been a great help and maybe the maria dunn you found also was her mother was her mother.
