Someone has asked for help concerning her grandmother who died in childbirth giving birth to her mother on what she believed to be 22/12/1898.only the surname of the grandmother is known which is GRIFFITH(S)i have found two for these dates but not in Liverpool where she is supposed of lived, when the mother tried to obtain her B/C for her pension the pensions office could find no trace of it, and over the years all enquiries lead nowhere,I don't have all the info as yet but what do you think? i don't believe grandmother/gfather were married and without mums b/c where would she go next?any clues welcome...MOE! AMENDED NOTICE!!! found mothers birth jennie griffiths (confirmed ends with an S)prescot vol 8b page 744 oct/nov/dec 1898 could someone do lookup for 1901 for WILLIAM GRIFFITHS COTTON SALESMAN and daughter JENNIE aged about 3y in liverpool, prescot or wallasey(all i have)...thanks moe

Have you got a copy of the death certificate as that might be easier to find? Dying in childbirth - does she mean literally or from an infection 3 weeks later which could mean that it is in a different quarter? Pippa

I haven't a clue pippa, someone asked me what i thought and its been bugging me, as far as i know it was 'at birth'there won't be a death cert as they don't know the grandmother/mothers first name only the dad who was william griffith i have a marraige in liverpool for ; WILLIAM GRIFFITH jul/aug/sep 1897 west derby vol 8b page 939, (1837online). so if some kind soul could find his wifes name i could look up to see if she died,... You will only know the wife's name if you order the cert as we won't know to cross referernce it with. There must be death cert can you tell us exactly the details that you do know? Pippa

Pippa, the major problem is the person who asked me says, (quote) 'i can't find my mothers B/C i have sent numerous cheques off over the years only to have them returned to me, i need to be certain before i send for any more' She doesn't know for fact that her grandmother died in childbirth but without a name she cannot trace back.. does this make sense?..MOE

But can we find the child born in 1898 on the 1901 census? Pippa

What is her mum's name - if she was born 1898 she should be on 1901 census. nell

I am desperatly trying to get hold of her but no joy, so i may have to put this on the back burner until she gets back to me, i don't know her mums name or DOB so i cannot add much, only that; WILLIAM GRIFFITH remarried in 1914 to ALICE BIRD and lived at 10 Halton Rd Wallasey until 1918 and then disappeared. i just needed to know there are ways around her dilemma as she thinks she will never find out her history thanks for your imput..MOE

Was her mum called Margaret or Sarah by any chance as these both have father's called Wm living in Cheshire - where apparently Wallasey is according to the census. Adds to my education everyday! Pippa

Its funny you should mention Margaret, pippa because i have two deaths around the dates given and one is, MARGARET GRIFFITH 18Y BANGOR VOL 11B PAGE 321,OCT/NOV/DEC/ 1898, even though Griffith seems to be welsh name and Bangor is going further away from Liverpool a bit, i have sent her 5 emails so far she will be sorry she asked, ...thanks for looking pippa and everyone else..MOE

Marriages Sep quarter 1898 Liverpool 8b 117 Dickinson, Herbert Gandy GRIFFITHS, William Roberts, Ruth Catherine ROSTANCE, Annie Birth Dec quarter 1898 Prescot vol 8b page744 Jennie GRIFFITHS Deaths Sep quarter 1899 Prescot 8b 574 Annie GRIFFITHS age 24 1901 census RG13/3513 folio 16 page 23 Widnes, Lancashire 8 Back of Farnworth Street Alice ROSTANCE Head widow 55 Lancashire Widnes Joseph Rostance son 23 gen. lab. Lancashire Widnes Sarah Rostance daughter 19 gen. serv. domestic Lancashire Widnes James Rostance son 16 gen. lab. Lancashire Widnes JANE GRIFFITHS grand daughter 2 Lancashire Liverpool If born end of 1898 Jennie would have been 2 in March 1901 when the census was taken. Jane and Jennie are often interchangeable names. Is this all coincidence or have I found her for you? Afraid William will be harder to track down if he was on his own - especially as we don't have an age for him. Was that given on his 2nd marriage cert?

Hi friend of mine is going through the same thing , she cant find the mother of her father he was always told she died in child birth in 1924 but a month later she had signed the birth cetificate as Irene Limb from Lincolnshire ,her father was brought up by his father she was not married to him wondered if it was the norm to say they had died if they where ashamed to admit they were born out of wedlock.

So going back to the original question you can now order the birth cert after all these years! Pippa
