I have a great x 2 Grandmother, she was born in the staffs area 1838 is there on the 1841,51 61,71, 81,91 then for some reason ( I will probably never know) in 1901 she's in Sheffield! don't discount anyone just because they aren't in the area you expected. Linda

I would say the William you found is not the right one (though, maybe if that's a new wife then she might have given the details and got them wrong!) Maybe you need to keep trying the 1891 census for Alfred's younger siblings, who I have not yet been able to trace :o(( Merry

Merry you are a star and thanks everyone else too. Gilbraltar as a birth place? Does this tell me anything? Probably going to be quite difficult if I try to research the wife? Sorry I am very new to this!

Just noticed you asked when the 1901 census was taken.......31st March! Hence he is still single! Merry

It may not be so bad!! You will get her maiden name from Alfred's birth cert and may find her father was in the army or something.....she might have returned here when she was very young! I expect she married William in this country. Merry

Being 'a local girl' I can tell you Waltham Cross, Enfield and Edmonton are all close together - if that is of any help. Lyndsey

I mustn't do your whole tree, must I???? I've seen a very likely marriage in 1857 for William and Elizabeth. Then I have found what is very likely to be Elizabeth's parents (or father and step-mum....you can never be sure of how long a couple have been married before researching!) living near Elizabeth and William in 1871. Am off to the DENTIST in a minute. Aaarrrgggghhhhhhh! If you want this info, just say.....or if you want to leave it until you have the birth cert for Alfred (which is, of course, what you SHOULD do!!).......then I won't post!! lol Merry (nerves are getting worse!)
