Hi all. How do i find the york workhouse census for 1901? I am not sure how to do it on Ancestry. I have a feeling in my water that my great grandparents may have been there. Unable to find them anywhere else. Vanessa |

I would just put their names in the normal search facility it has workhouses too. |

The workhouse will be in the normal index, but a lot of workhouse entries are mistranscribed or incorrectly spelt.Try with the info you know to be correct, but be liberal with years of birth and spellings. Glen |

Hi Valarie. I have tried that but i am running out of different ways to spell Mckegg. I was hoping that if i could get into the census for the workhouse for 1901 i may be able to trail through the names to find them. Oh well! Back to the drawing board. Thanks anyway. Vanessa |

Hi Vanessa Here's a link for you with regards to the workhouse in York. It has the 1881 census on there - no use to you, but at least it will give you an address to work on. It has pictures and maps and all sorts of other information on there. http://users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/index.html |

Thanks Snowdrop. Will give anything a go. I can find William on other census but it is this one that is driving me nuts! The only thing i can think of is that they were in the workhouse. Will let you know how i get on. After i have screamed the house down. Vanessa |

Hi Snowdrop. Sorry for taking so long. Yes i live in York. I will go to the site and get the addie and phone number. I think they are the ones who helped me find the newspaper reports on the inquest of Williams fathers death in 1880. He died a nasty death on a building site. Buried alive when digging a ditch for pipes to be laid on a new housing estate. Thanks Snowdrop. Vanessa |

Hi Valarie. No my great grandparents were very much alive. William died in the work house in 1938. Mary remarried in 1941. I just want to get my records straight and have everything sorted. I do know that William jioned the army but do not know when. If i can find them in 1901 maybe i can find out when and which regiment he joined. Thankyou. Vanessa |
