McCague and McKegg on the same page sounds rather fishy to me - but maybe they were brother and sister, having a double wedding? OC

Right then. I entered 'George' living York and no dates. On the first image i selected 'York' from the blue coloured links above the image. look for 'you are here,census,1901 Engalnd and Wales..........' That shows York has three main districts. Select Bootham and there are 23 subdistricts plus the workhouse, lunatic asylum and a school. The workhouse has 23 images but my connection is so slow today the first image took 5 minutes to load!! It is under RG13/4438 Glen Glen

Hi Valarie. No my great grandparents were very much alive. William died in the work house in 1938. Mary remarried in 1941. I just want to get my records straight and have everything sorted. I do know that William jioned the army but do not know when. If i can find them in 1901 maybe i can find out when and which regiment he joined. Thankyou. Vanessa

Hi Snowdrop. Sorry for taking so long. Yes i live in York. I will go to the site and get the addie and phone number. I think they are the ones who helped me find the newspaper reports on the inquest of Williams fathers death in 1880. He died a nasty death on a building site. Buried alive when digging a ditch for pipes to be laid on a new housing estate. Thanks Snowdrop. Vanessa

Oooh ooh Vanessa, On that website there is a link to York City archives and researchers can go and look for free - it's got opening times and the address on the link. You live in York as well don't you?

Hi Vanessa Here's a link for you with regards to the workhouse in York. It has the 1881 census on there - no use to you, but at least it will give you an address to work on. It has pictures and maps and all sorts of other information on there. http://users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/index.html
