Hi Can anyone please look up John Beckford for me in 1841 and 1851. I can't find him on either census return. I have him in 1861 in the Ware workhouse as a School Master. Think his middle name is Gilbert. He was marrie to Emma and had approx 5/6 kids. He is a widower in 1861. Thanks in advance. Marie xx

the one glitter babe found is school master of union and is married looking on image it looks like Beckford though there is a dot which makes it look like there is a i there Jeanette

Marie, John is shown on image as school master but would probably be classed as servant as he is not head of household. Mauren

Sorry, approx year of birth is 1811 and children that I know of are william, george, samuel, frances and john.

does the 1851 census show who he is a servant for ? Do yous think its strange for him to go from servant to schoolmaster ?

Perhaps the family I posted for 1851 is wrong. When and where did Emma die? The ages on the 1841 census are rounded so the ages given could be out by quite a bit. Maureen

not sure about emma, all i know is that john is a widower in 1861 so it must have been before then. I'm gonna go look for a death for her now. Thankyou all very much for your help so far. xx

1841 John and Emma are living in Standon Street. 1851 Emma and kids are living in Standon Street Maureen

i'm confused...how could emma be 63 in 1851 ? surely she should be 50 if born 1811 same as John ?
